Abstract:The centrifugal pump is an important piece of equipment in production and industry. To improve the operating efficiency of the pump and reduce the energy consumption of the system, it is necessary to accurately monitor and analyze the status of the pump. The traditional pump test method must be connected with the system, which affects the integrity of the system and increases its energy consumption. Moreover, such a system needs to measure many parameters, which is very inconvenient. This study presented a noncontact test method for measuring the performance of centrifugal pumps. Based on empirical mode decomposition (EMD) and a spectrum analysis, this method could effectively extract the characteristic components that directly reflect the pump efficiency from the noise. The noncontact noise signal is used to directly monitor the state of the pump. Through feature recognition and feature analysis, it is demonstrated that the noise signal contains feature components that can directly reflect the efficiency of the pump. The calculation based on the velocity triangle and the numerical calculation based on the Renault average N-S equation can be employed to effectively assess the velocity field distribution inside the pump. With an analysis of the energy conversion inside the pump based on the Bernoulli equation and an analysis based on the change in the speed gradient, the change in the pump operating efficiency is effectively combined with the noise frequency of the pump. The noise signal can directly reflect the change in the pump efficiency, thereby providing a new means of monitoring the performance of the pump.
