Abstract:PURPOSE: To cross-validate the Session-Rating of Perceived Exertion (s-RPE) scale for physical education class in the Chinese college students. METHODS: 162 males (Aged 18.67 ± 1.03 yr.; Height = 176.02 ± 5.73 cm; Weight = 69.56 ± 10.11 kg; BMI = 22.76 ± 3.64) Chinese colleges students’ physical education (PE) class were assessed using heart rate (HR). They were then asked to recall their exercise intensity using s-RPE after 30-minute PE class. Measured exercise intensity by HR were computed using Edwards-TL method and compared with s-RPE. The same PE program were performed and compared with s-RPE scale to validate test-retest reliability for s-RPE. RESULTS: All of the subjects wore HR monitor during PE class. The correlation between the HR and that reported by s-RPE is 0.577. The test-retest reliability coefficient of PPAQ is 0.617. CONCLUSION: s-RPE’s validity and reliability was confirmed for the Chinese college sample during PE class, although as might be predicted for a subjective method was less precise than the objective measures PE class of exercise intensity.
