Abstract:For a coupled system of wave equations with locally distributed controls, we show that the state variable can be divided into three groups: the first group can exactly reach any given target, the second group can approximately reach any given target, while the last one evolutes following a conservative system, therefore, is independent of applied controls. In particular, the exactly synchronizable state by groups is independent of applied controls if and only if Kalman's minimum rank condition holds. This paper generalizes the previous work [13] from the simple case of exact synchronization to the general case of exact synchronization by groups.

Abstract:The approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups (p >= 1) in the pinning sense has been introduced in [T.-T. Li and B. Rao, Asymp. Anal. 86 (2014) 199-224], in this paper the authors give a new and more natural definition on the approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups in the consensus sense for a coupled system of N wave equations with Dirichlet boundary controls. We show that the approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups in the consensus sense is equivalent to that in the pinning sense. Moreover, by means of a corresponding Kalman's criterion, the concept of the number of total (direct and indirect) controls is introduced. It turns out that in the case that the minimal number of total controls is equal to (N-p) the existence of the approximately synchronizable state by p-groups as well as the necessity of the strong C-p-compatibility condition are the consequence of the approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups, while, in the opposite case, the approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups could imply some non-expected additional properties, called the induced approximate boundary synchronization.

Abstract:As a novel synchronization phenomenon, measure synchronization (MS) in Hamiltonian systems is characterized by a commonly shared phase space that has invariant measure. Although there has been some discussions of the underlying mechanism, a general explanation of MS is still lacking. In this paper, we reveal the essence of MS by using Poincare section analysis. A two coupled Bosonic Josephson junction model is employed to perform the analysis as an illustration. It is shown that coupled Hamiltonian systems exhibit separatrix crossing behavior at quasiperiodic MS transition. Moreover, using this analysis method we find that chaotic MS is the result of separatrix chaos. It is concluded that the Poincare section technique is a general method to explain MS, and the direct correspondence between separatrix behavior and the MS transition is a universal property in coupled Hamiltonian systems.

Abstract:Dans cette Note, nous donnons une nouvelle définition plus naturelle de la synchronisation approchée par p-groupes (p≥1) pour un système couplé de N équations des ondes par des contrôles frontières de Dirichlet. Au moyen du critère de Kalman, nous introduisons la notion de nombre de contrôles totaux (directs et indirects). Nous montrons que, si (N−p) est le nombre minimal de contrôles totaux pour la synchronisation approchée par p-groupes, alors on aura nécessairement l'existence de l'état approximativement synchronisable, ainsi que la condition de Cp-compatibilité. Dans le cas contraire, la synchronisation approchée par p-groupes peut entraîner certaines propriétés supplémentaires inattendues.

Abstract:We first show that under a suitable balanced repartition of the mixed controls within the system, Kalman’s rank condition is still necessary and sufficient for the uniqueness of solution to the adjoint system associated with incomplete internal and boundary observations, therefore for the approximate controllability of the primary system by means of mixed controls. Then we study the stability of the approximately synchronizable state by groups with respect to applied controls.

Abstract:This note analyzes the synchronization problem for a class of complex networks. The considered network topology, symbolized by adjacent matrices, is assumed to be time-varying and subjected to a Markov process. When designing controllers to synchronize the network, we consider the asynchronous phenomenon occurred between the mode of the adjacent matrices and that of the controllers. A properly defined stochastic process, which is related to the Markov process by a conditional probability is then introduced to indicate the controller mode. Base on this connection, a sufficient condition is derived by using Lyapunov–Krasoviskii theorem to ensure the global synchronization of the considered complex network with a predefined noise attenuation level. The design scheme is presented by solving a series of LMIs. A numerical example is finally provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Abstract:In this survey paper, the synchronization will be initially studied for infinite dimensional dynamical systems of partial differential equations instead of finite dimensional systems of ordinary differential equations, and will be connected with the control theory via boundary controls in a finite time interval. More precisely, various kinds of exact boundary synchronization and approximate boundary synchronization will be introduced and realized by means of fewer boundary controls for a coupled system of wave equations with Dirichlet boundary controls. Moreover, as necessary conditions for various kinds of approximate boundary synchronization, criteria of Kalman’s type are obtained. Finally, some prospects will be given.

Abstract:Synchronization is an important and prevalent phenomenon in natural and engineered systems. In many dynamical networks, the coupling is balanced or adjusted to admit global synchronization, a condition called Laplacian coupling. Many networks exhibit incomplete synchronization, where two or more clusters of synchronization persist, and computational group theory has recently proved to be valuable in discovering these cluster states based on the topology of the network. In the important case of Laplacian coupling, additional synchronization patterns can exist that would not be predicted from the group theory analysis alone. Understanding how and when clusters form, merge, and persist is essential for understanding collective dynamics, synchronization, and failure mechanisms of complex networks such as electric power grids, distributed control networks, and autonomous swarming vehicles. We describe a method to find and analyze all of the possible cluster synchronization patterns in a Laplacian-coupled network, by applying methods of computational group theory to dynamically equivalent networks. We present a general technique to evaluate the stability of each of the dynamically valid cluster synchronization patterns. Our results are validated in an optoelectronic experiment on a five-node network that confirms the synchronization patterns predicted by the theory.

Abstract:The asymptotical synchronization for coupled delay partial differential systems (PDSs) with boundary control is considered in this paper. First, the synchronization error dynamics are introduced and we turn the asymptotical synchronization problem into the asymptotical stabilization problem. The boundary controller is also presented. Then, by employing Lyapunov functional method, under the given boundary controller, sufficient conditions are provided which guarantee the asymptotical synchronization for the coupled delay PDSs. These sufficient conditions are given by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are easy to be solved by the developed standard algorithms. Both the cases of node delay and coupling delay are considered. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results.

Abstract:In this paper, the commonly concerned issue of synchronization regions of complex dynamical networks is investigated, for the case when the synchronous state is an equilibrium point. Some simple sufficient conditions for a network to have or have no unbounded synchronization regions of the form (-∞,α1) are established, where α1 is a constant. In addition, a sufficient condition for the existence of a bounded synchronization region of the form (α2,α3) is derived, where α2 and α3 are constants, by using the parameter-dependent Lyapunov function method. Furthermore, some effective controller design methods are presented that can change the synchronization regions, thereby managing the synchronizability of the network. Finally, some numerical examples are given to show that a dynamical network may have disconnected synchronization regions, particularly it may have the coexistence of unbounded and bounded synchronization regions in the form of (-∞,α1)∪(α2,α3).

Abstract:This paper discusses the synchronization of uncertain Lu chaotic systems. Based on the idea of active control, a novel active pining control strategy is presented, which only need a state of uncertain Lu chaotic systems. This controller can achieve synchronization between a salve system and a master system, and ensure the synchronized robust stability of uncertain Lu chaotic systems. Numerical simulations of Lu chaotic systems show that the controller can make chaotic systems achieve synchronization in a quite short period and the synchronization is of good robust stability.
