Abstract:The approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups (p >= 1) in the pinning sense has been introduced in [T.-T. Li and B. Rao, Asymp. Anal. 86 (2014) 199-224], in this paper the authors give a new and more natural definition on the approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups in the consensus sense for a coupled system of N wave equations with Dirichlet boundary controls. We show that the approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups in the consensus sense is equivalent to that in the pinning sense. Moreover, by means of a corresponding Kalman's criterion, the concept of the number of total (direct and indirect) controls is introduced. It turns out that in the case that the minimal number of total controls is equal to (N-p) the existence of the approximately synchronizable state by p-groups as well as the necessity of the strong C-p-compatibility condition are the consequence of the approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups, while, in the opposite case, the approximate boundary synchronization by p-groups could imply some non-expected additional properties, called the induced approximate boundary synchronization.

Abstract:We first show that under a suitable balanced repartition of the mixed controls within the system, Kalman’s rank condition is still necessary and sufficient for the uniqueness of solution to the adjoint system associated with incomplete internal and boundary observations, therefore for the approximate controllability of the primary system by means of mixed controls. Then we study the stability of the approximately synchronizable state by groups with respect to applied controls.

Abstract:The asymptotical synchronization for coupled delay partial differential systems (PDSs) with boundary control is considered in this paper. First, the synchronization error dynamics are introduced and we turn the asymptotical synchronization problem into the asymptotical stabilization problem. The boundary controller is also presented. Then, by employing Lyapunov functional method, under the given boundary controller, sufficient conditions are provided which guarantee the asymptotical synchronization for the coupled delay PDSs. These sufficient conditions are given by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs), which are easy to be solved by the developed standard algorithms. Both the cases of node delay and coupling delay are considered. Finally, numerical examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed theoretical results.

Abstract:Dans cette Note, nous donnons une nouvelle définition plus naturelle de la synchronisation approchée par p-groupes (p≥1) pour un système couplé de N équations des ondes par des contrôles frontières de Dirichlet. Au moyen du critère de Kalman, nous introduisons la notion de nombre de contrôles totaux (directs et indirects). Nous montrons que, si (N−p) est le nombre minimal de contrôles totaux pour la synchronisation approchée par p-groupes, alors on aura nécessairement l'existence de l'état approximativement synchronisable, ainsi que la condition de Cp-compatibilité. Dans le cas contraire, la synchronisation approchée par p-groupes peut entraîner certaines propriétés supplémentaires inattendues.

Abstract:In this survey paper, the synchronization will be initially studied for infinite dimensional dynamical systems of partial differential equations instead of finite dimensional systems of ordinary differential equations, and will be connected with the control theory via boundary controls in a finite time interval. More precisely, various kinds of exact boundary synchronization and approximate boundary synchronization will be introduced and realized by means of fewer boundary controls for a coupled system of wave equations with Dirichlet boundary controls. Moreover, as necessary conditions for various kinds of approximate boundary synchronization, criteria of Kalman’s type are obtained. Finally, some prospects will be given.

Abstract:For a coupled system of wave equations with locally distributed controls, we show that the state variable can be divided into three groups: the first group can exactly reach any given target, the second group can approximately reach any given target, while the last one evolutes following a conservative system, therefore, is independent of applied controls. In particular, the exactly synchronizable state by groups is independent of applied controls if and only if Kalman's minimum rank condition holds. This paper generalizes the previous work [13] from the simple case of exact synchronization to the general case of exact synchronization by groups.

Abstract:This article deals with the approximate synchronization of two coupled multi-valued logical networks. According to the initial state set from which both systems start, two kinds of approximate synchronization problem, local approximate synchronization and global approximate synchronization, are proposed for the first time. Three new notions: approximate synchronization state set (ASSS), the maximum approximate synchronization basin (MASB) and the shortest approximate synchronization time (SAST) are introduced and analyzed. Based on ASSS, several necessary and sufficient conditions are obtained for approximate synchronization. MASB, the set of all possible initial states, from which the systems are approximately synchronous, is investigated combining with the maximum invariant subset. And the calculation method of the SAST, associated with transient period, is presented. By virtue of MASB, pinning control scheme is investigated to make two coupled systems achieve global approximate synchronization. Furthermore, the related theories are also applied to the complete synchronization problem of $k$-valued ($k\geq2$) logical networks. Finally, four examples are given to illustrate the obtained results.

Abstract:This paper studies the problem of mean square asymptotical synchronization and H_∞ synchronization for coupled stochastic reaction–diffusion systems (SRDSs) via boundary control. Based on the deduced synchronization error dynamic, we design boundary controllers to achieve mean square asymptotical synchronization. By virtue of Lyapunov functional method and Wirtinger’s inequality, sufficient conditions are obtained for ensuring mean square asymptotical synchronization. When coupled SRDSs are subject to external disturbance, mean square H_∞ synchronization is investigated and corresponding criterion is presented under a designed boundary controller. In addition to focusing on systems with Neumann boundary conditions, we also briefly study coupled SRDSs with mixed boundary conditions and sufficient conditions are provided to achieve the desired performance. Numerical examples are used to verify the effectiveness of our theoretical results.

Abstract:This paper addresses the problem of exponential synchronization via boundary control for a class of networked linear spatiotemporal dynamical networks consisting of N identical nodes, in which the spatiotemporal behavior of the each node is described by parabolic partial differential equations (PDEs). The purpose of this paper is to design boundary controllers ensuring the exponential synchronization of the networked parabolic PDE system. To do this, Lyapunov's direct method, the vector-valued Wirtinger's inequality, and the technique of integration by parts are employed. A sufficient condition on the existence of the boundary controllers is developed in term of standard of linear matrix inequality (LMI). Finally, numerical simulation results on a numerical example are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method.
Pinning synchronization of a mobile agent network

Abstract:We investigate the problem of controlling a group of mobile agents in a plane in order to move them towards a desired orbit via pinning control, in which each agent is associated with a chaotic oscillator coupled with those of neighboring agents, and the pinning strategy is to have the common linear feedback acting on a small fraction of agents by random selection. We explore the effects of the pinning probability, feedback gains and agent density in the pinning synchronization of a mobile agent network under a fast-switching constraint, and perform numerical simulations for validation. In particular, we show that there exists a critical pinning density for network synchronization with an unbounded region: above the threshold, the dynamical network can be controlled by pinning; below it, anarchy prevails. And for the network with a single bounded synchronization region, pinning control has little effect as regards enhancing network synchronizability.
