Abstract:A new compound named 13b (S)-hydroxy-17c-ethoxypheaophorbide a (2) together with a known compound 17c-ethoxypheaophorbide a (1) were isolated from marine sponge Dysidea sp. collected in South China sea. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic analysis as well as comparison with those reported in literatures.

Abstract:Eleven new pyrimidine nucleosides (1-11) and 12 known analogues (12-23) were isolated from the marine-derived Streptomyces sp. SSA28. All of the new structures were elucidated by extensive NMR spectroscopic analysis and HRESIMS data. The absolute configurations of compound 1 were determined by X-ray diffraction. The configurations of 2-16 were investigated by ECD calculations. Compounds 11-16 showed cytotoxicity against HCT-116 human colon cancer cell lines with IC50 values from 0.39 +/- 0.03 to 6.63 +/- 0.47 mu M.

Abstract:Four novel cycloartanes, named sphaerophysone A (1), B (2), C (3) and D (4), were isolated from the ethanol extract of Sphaerophysa salsula (Pall.) DC. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral evidence, and the stereochemistry of compound 1 was defined by X-ray crystallographic analysis. Sphaerophysone B (2) may be an artifact formed in the isolation procedure.

Abstract:A chemical investigation on the marine sponge Dysidea sp. resulted in the isolation of a series of diketopiperazines, including two new compounds, dysidines A ( 1 ) and B ( 2 ) as well as six known ones ( 3 – 8 ). Their structures with absolute configurations were determined on the basis of UV, IR, HRMS, NMR and calculated ECD method. Additionally, the cytotoxic, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antiviral activities of 1 – 8 were also tested. However, none of them exhibited significant bioactivities.

Abstract:Four new sesquiterpene quinone meroterpenoids, dysideanones F—G (1—2) and dysiherbols D—E (3—4), were isolated from the marine sponge Dysidea avara collected from the South China Sea. The new structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of spectroscopic data including HR-MS and 1D and 2D NMR spectra, and their absolute configurations were assigned by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and ECD calculations. Anti-inflammatory evaluation showed that dysiherbols D—E (3—4) exhibited moderate inhibitory activity on TNF-α-induced NF-κB activation in human HEK-293T cells with IC50 values of 10.2 and 8.6 μmol·L—1, respectively.

Abstract:A chemical investigation of marine sponge Jaspis stellifera, collected from South China Sea, led to the isolation of two new compounds, Jaspiferin A and B (1-2), and six known compounds, gibepyrone F (3), p-hydroxy benzaldehyde (4), 3-Indole-3-aldehyde (5), Thymine (6), 24(28)-dehydroaplysterol (7), (25s)-26-methylene-cholest-4-en-3-one (8). Their structures were determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis in association with physical and chemical properties, as well as comparison of their spectral data with these reported in literatures. The biogenetic transformation of compound 2 was also speculated.

Abstract:Phaeosphspirone, an undescribed polyketide with a unique 6/5/5/6-fused tetracyclic system, and two known analogues, herbarin and O-methylherbarin, were purified from the endophytic fungus Phaeosphaeriaceae sp. isolated from the desert plant Bassia dasyphylla. The connectivity and relative configuration of phaeosphspirone was elucidated by comprehensive HR-ESI-MS and NMR analysis together with a computer-assisted structure elucidation (CASE) method. A pair of enantiomers existing in phaeosphspirone were separated by HPLC chromatography after reacting with chiral reagents, from which the absolute configuration of phaeosphspirone was simultaneously determined based on Mosher's rule. This tandem strategy provides a useful approach for the separation and stereochemical determination of enantiomers possessing secondary hydroxyl groups. The structural feature of phaeosphspirone, herbarin and O-methylherbarin together with gene cluster analysis suggested their polyketide biosynthetic origin. Herbarin and O-methylherbarin exhibited moderate cytotoxicity against three cancer cell lines.

Abstract:An unusual secomeroterpenoid, dysambiol (1), was isolated from a Dysidea sp. marine sponge collected from the South China Sea. Dysambiol features an unprecedented secomeroterpene scaffold with a rare lactone bridge. The structure of 1 was determined by extensive spectroscopic analysis, Mosher's method, and electronic circular dichroism calculation. Dysambiol displayed potent anti-inflammatory activity in LPS-induced Raw 264.7 macrophages by regulating the NF-?B/MPAK signaling pathway.

Abstract:a new benzodioxole derivative 1,3-benzodioxole-2-one-4- N -methylcarboxylamide ( 1 ), two new natural products N -(aminocarbonyl)-2,3-dimethoxy-benzamide ( 2 ) and 2,3-dimethoxy- N -methylbenzamide ( 3 ), along with eight known compounds ( 4 - 11 ), were isolated from the marine-derived Streptomyces sp. SYPHU 0002. The structures of compounds 1 - 11 were determined through comprehensive spectroscopic analyses, including HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR. Compound 9 showed weak antibacterial activity against Bacillus pumilus with the MIC value of 64 μg mL −1 .

Abstract:Four new tremulane sesquiterpenes, named phaeosphaerienols A–D (1–4), and two new pyroglutamate‐containing dipeptides, named phaeosphaeratides A–B (5–6), were isolated from the mangrove endophytic fungus Phaeosphaeriopsis sp. P11, together with a new 2‐furancarboxylic acid derivative (7). Structurally, pheaosphaerienols A–C (1–3) are rare tremulanes containing a 1,10‐epoxide moiety. The structures of these compounds were established by extensive NMR spectroscopic data, single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction analysis, and Marfey's derivatization method. All the isolates were evaluated for their cytotoxic, antibacterial, and DPPH free radical scavenging effects. However, none of the compounds exhibited obvious activities.

Abstract:Three new spiro-sesquiterpenoids, myrmekiones A-C (1-3), were isolated from the marine sponge Myrmekioderma sp. collected from the South China Sea. The structures of 1-3 were experimentally illuminated though comprehensive NMR spectra, X-ray diffraction analysis and calculated ECD. These three compounds possessed a special spiro skeleton. Compound 1 was characterized by a chamigrane-type structure, it is the first time to obtain the single-crystal of this type of oil compounds. 2 and 3 were a pair of diastereoisomers that possessed an acorane skeleton. This study expands the chemical diversity of marine origin spiro-metabolites.

Abstract:One new naphthalene derivative, 1,8-dihydroxynaphthol-1-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (1), together with one known α-dibenzopyrone, alternariol (2), and five xanthones (3-7) were isolated from the sponge-derived fungus Arthrinium sp. ZSDS1-F3. All the isolated compounds (1-7) were established by comprehensive analysis of the spectral data, especially 1D and 2D NMR (HMQC and HMBC) spectra. In the primary bioassays, compound 3 exhibited moderate COX-2 inhibition, with IC50 values of 12.2 μM.

Abstract:Chemical examination of a Chinese sponge Axinyssa sp. resulted in the isolation of 12 new formamidobisabolene-based analogues named axinyssines A–L (1–12), along with a new natural product (13) and three known formamidobisabolenes (14–16). Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive NMR and mass spectroscopic analyses in association with ICD data, Mosher reaction and chemical conversion for the assignment of absolute configurations. All compounds were evaluated for antitumor and antimicrobial activities.

Abstract:Two new scalarane sesterterpenes, hyrtiosins F and G (1 and 2), along with two known related compounds, hyrtiosin D and sesterstatin 6 (3 and 4), were isolated from the Hainan marine sponge Hyrtios erecta. The structures of new compounds 1 and 2 were determined by detailed analysis of 1D and 2D NMR spectra and by comparison of the spectroscopic data with those reported in the literatures.

Abstract:Chemical examination of an unidentified sponge associated marine fungus Penicillium terrestre resulted in the isolation of eight compounds. Their structures are identified as cyclo (glycyl-D-proline) (1), cyclo (L-prolyl-L-alanine) (2), cyclo (L-prolylD-alanine) (3), cyclo (L-leucyl-trans-4-hydroxy-L-proline) (4), cyclo (L-leucyl-cis-4-hydroxy-D-proline) (5), cyclo (L-trans-(4-hydroxyprolinyl)-L-phenylalanine) (6), hexylitaconic acid (7), and hexylitaconic methylate (8), based on spectroscopic analysis (1D, 2D NMR). Compounds 7, 8 were obtained from the genus Penicillium for the first time, while compounds 1-6 were isolated from the fungus Penicillium terrestre for the first time.

Abstract:A new diphenyl ether methyl 2-(2-formyl-3-hydroxy-5-methylphenoxy)-5-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzoate (3), together with four known compounds, asterric acid (1), methyl asterrate (2), 9(Z),12(Z)-nonadecadienoic acid (4) and orsellinic acid (5), were isolated from the Phoma sp. strain SHZK-2, which was isolated from a polluted environment in southern China. The structures of these compounds were determined by spectroscopic methods. Cytotoxicities of compounds against HEPG2 cell and Raji cell lines were preliminarily evaluated by the MTT method.
