Abstract:In this paper, we resolve a conjecture of Green and Liebeck (2019) [3] on codes in PGL(2,q). To be specific, we show that: if D is a dihedral subgroup of order 2(q+1) in G=PGL(2,q), and A={g∈G:gq+1=1,g2≠1}, then λG=A⋅D, where λ=q or q−1 according as q is even or odd.

Abstract:Motivated by the recent studies on $mathbb {Z}_{2}mathbb {Z}_{4}$ -additive cyclic codes, $mathbb {Z}_{2}mathbb {Z}_{2}[u]$ -cyclic codes and $mathbb {Z}_{2}mathbb {Z}_{2^{s}}$ -additive codes have been introduced by Aydogdu et al.. In this paper, we study $mathbb {Z}_{q}R$ -linear cyclic codes where $R=mathbb {Z}_{q}+umathbb {Z}_{q}, q$ is a prime number and $u^{2}=0$ . There are two major ingredients in this paper. The first is to investigate the algebraic structure of cyclic codes and their duals over ring $mathbb {Z}_{q}R$ , the spanning sets, the types and sizes of $mathbb {Z}_{q}R$ -cyclic codes and their duals as well. Based on this, the second ingredient is to present an infinite family of MDSS codes and obtain some illustrative examples of $q$ -ary cyclic codes with optimal parameters derived from the $mathbb {Z}_{q}R$ -cyclic codes.

Abstract:The existence of $q$-ary linear complementary pairs (LCPs) of codes with $q> 2$ has been completely characterized so far. This paper gives a characterization for the existence of binary LCPs of codes. As a result, we solve an open problem proposed by Carlet $et~al.$ (IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory 65(3): 1694-1704, 2019) and a conjecture proposed by Choi $et~al.$ (Cryptogr. Commun. 15(2): 469-486, 2023).

Abstract:In coding theory, constructing codes with good parameters is one of the most important and fundamental problems. A great many good codes have been constructed over alphabets of sizes equal to prime powers, however, good block codes over other alphabet sizes are rare. In this paper, we provide a new explicit construction of $(q+1)$ -ary nonlinear codes via algebraic function fields, where $q$ is a prime power. Our codes are constructed by evaluating rational functions at all rational places of an algebraic function field. Compared with algebraic geometry codes, the main difference is that we allow rational functions to be evaluated at pole places. After evaluating rational functions from a union of Riemann-Roch spaces, we obtain a family of nonlinear codes over the alphabet $\mathbb {F}_{q}\cup \{\infty \}$ . It turns out that our codes have better parameters than those obtained from MDS codes or good algebraic geometry codes via code alphabet extension and restriction.

Abstract:Frameproof codes are used to fingerprint digital data. They can prevent copyrighted materials from unauthorized use. In this paper, we study upper and lower bounds for w-frameproof codes of length N over an alphabet of size q. The upper bound is based on a combinatorial approach and the lower bound is based on a probabilistic construction. Both bounds can improve one of the previous results when q is small compared with w, say cq ≤ w for some constant c ≤ q. Furthermore, we pay special attention to binary frameproof codes. We show a binary w-frameproof code of length N cannot have more than N codewords if N <; ((w+1)/2).

Abstract:By employing algebraic curves, we give some new asymptotic bounds for (q-1)-ary and (q+1)-ary codes, where q >; 2 is a prime power. In particular, our asymptotic bound for (q-1)-ary codes improves on the bound obtained directly from alphabet restriction given by Tafasman and Vlăduţ , [Th. 1.3.19], while our asymptotic bound for (q+1) -ary codes includes Elkies' result for the square q case (STOC 01) (however, the idea in this paper is different from Elkies' one). Our constructions of asymptotically good nonlinear codes are NOT the same as Goppa's construction of algebraic geometry codes in the sense that we consider evaluation of functions at some pole points as well.

Abstract:We use improved lattice actions for glue, light quarks and heavy quarks for which we use lattice NRQCD to compute hadron masses. Our results are in good agreement with experiment, except for charmed hadrons. It seems that charmed quar ks are not well approximated as heavy quarks nor as light quarks.

Abstract:We generalize Steane's enlargement construction of binary quantum codes to q-ary quantum codes. We then apply this result to BCH codes and the study of asymptotic bounds, and obtain improvements to the quantum BCH codes constructed by Aly and Klappenecker and the quantum asymptotic bounds from algebraic geometry codes obtained by Feng, Ling, and Xing.

Abstract:In this paper, we consider group rings and skew group rings and use them to construct binary quantum error-correcting codes(QECCs, for short). We study three classes of groups: direct product of two cyclic groups, dihedral group, direct product of cyclic group and dihedral group. And several special groups. Using these groups we can get construction matrix of the linear codes over . Then by computer search, we get 12 new binary QECCs with parameters [[40,16,7]], [[42,14,8]], [[48,20,8]], [[50,24,7]], [[54,34,6]], [[55,21,9]], [[60,38,6]], [[60,32,7]], [[70,42,7]], [[72,50,6]], [[75,47,7]], [[75,39,8]]. They both break the best-known lower bound on minimum distance in the Grassl's code tables.

Abstract:In this paper, we study upper bounds on the minimum length of frameproof codes introduced by Boneh and Shaw to protect copyrighted materials. A $q$-ary $(k,n)$-frameproof code of length $t$ is a $t \times n$ matrix having entries in $\{0,1,\ldots, q-1\}$ and with the property that for any column $\mathbf{c}$ and any other $k$ columns, there exists a row where the symbols of the $k$ columns are all different from the corresponding symbol (in the same row) of the column $\mathbf{c}$. In this paper, we show the existence of $q$-ary $(k,n)$-frameproof codes of length $t = O(\frac{k^2}{q} \log n)$ for $q \leq k$, using the Lovász Local Lemma, and of length $t = O(\frac{k}{\log(q/k)}\log(n/k))$ for $q > k$ using the expurgation method. Remarkably, for the practical case of $q \leq k$ our findings give codes whose length almost matches the lower bound $\Omega(\frac{k^2}{q\log k} \log n)$ on the length of any $q$-ary $(k,n)$-frameproof code and, more importantly, allow us to derive an algorithm of complexity $O(t n^2)$ for the construction of such codes.

Abstract:We construct two series of linear codes over finite ring $\mathbb{F}_{q}[x]/(x^2)$ and Galois ring $GR(p^2,m)$ respectively reaching the Griesmer bound. They derive two series of codes over finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ by Gray map. The first series of codes over $\mathbb{F}_{q}$ derived from $\mathbb{F}_{q}[x]/(x^2)$ are linear and also reach the Griesmer bound in some cases. Many of linear codes over finite field we constructed have two Hamming (non-zero) weights.

Abstract:In this letter, the structural analysis of nonbinary cyclic and quasi-cyclic (QC) low-density parity-check (LDPC) codes with alpha-multiplied parity-check matrices (PCMs) is concerned. Using analytical methods, several structural parameters of nonbinary cyclic and QC LDPC codes with alpha-multiplied PCMs are determined. In particular, some classes of nonbinary LDPC codes constructed from finite fields and finite geometries are shown to have good minimum and stopping distances properties, which may explain to some extent their wonderful decoding performances.

Abstract:A class of powerful $q$-ary linear polynomial codes originally proposed by Xing and Ling is deployed to construct good asymmetric quantum codes via the standard CSS construction. Our quantum codes are $q$-ary block codes that encode $k$ qudits of quantum information into $n$ qudits and correct up to $\flr{(d_{x}-1)/2}$ bit-flip errors and up to $\flr{(d_{z}-1)/2}$ phase-flip errors.. In many cases where the length $(q^{2}-q)/2 \leq n \leq (q^{2}+q)/2$ and the field size $q$ are fixed and for chosen values of $d_{x} \in \{2,3,4,5\}$ and $d_{z} \ge \delta$, where $\delta$ is the designed distance of the Xing-Ling (XL) codes, the derived pure $q$-ary asymmetric quantum CSS codes possess the best possible size given the current state of the art knowledge on the best classical linear block codes.
