Abstract:Two sufficient and necessary conditions for the self orthogonality of classical non-primitive BCH codes over $\mathbb{F}_q$ and $\mathbb{F}_{q^2}$ are given, respectively. And series of non-binary quantum BCH codes are obtained by using these two conditions and some construction methods.

Abstract:Let q be a prime power and m a positive integer. Suppose that a≥2 is a factor of qm−1 such that m is the multiplicative order of q modulo n:=qm−1a . Firstly, for m odd and m even, we present some necessary and sufficient conditions on dual-containing non-primitive BCH codes of length n with the maximum designed distances over Fq , respectively. The results show that the maximum designed distances of dual-containing BCH codes in this paper are larger than those in [2, Theorem 3] . Secondly, we explicitly determine the dimensions of some dual-containing non-primitive BCH codes of length n , and finally, we construct some new quantum codes with relatively large minimum distances.

Abstract:The effect of matter enhanced neutrino oscillations on atmosheric neutrinos is investigated systematically in the framework of one mass dominant model of three neutrinos. The resonance conditions of neutrino crossing the earth are determined by the three parameters, namely, the zenith angle, ${\Delta m^2/E}$, and the mixing angle ${\theta_3}$ of the electron neutrinos with tau neutrinos. The values of the triplet under the resonance is found numerically.

Abstract:BCH codes are an important class of linear codes and find extensive utilization in communication and disk storage systems.This paper mainly analyzes the negacyclic BCH code and cyclic BCH code of length $\frac{q^m-1}{2}$. For negacyclic BCH code, we give the dimensions of $C_{(n,-1,\left\lceil \frac{\delta+1}{2}\right\rceil,0)}$ for $\delta =a\frac{q^m-1}{q-1},aq^{m-1}-1$($1\leq a <\frac{q-1}{2}$) and $\delta =a\frac{q^m-1}{q-1}+b\frac{q^m-1}{q^2-1},aq^{m-1}+(a+b)q^{m-2}-1$ $(2\mid m,1\leq a+b \leq q-1$,$\left\lceil \frac{q-a-2}{2}\right\rceil\geq 1)$. Furthermore, the dimensions of negacyclic BCH codes $C_{(n,-1,\delta,0)}$ with few nonzeros and $C_{(n,-1,\delta,b)}$ with $b\neq 0$ are settled. For cyclic BCH code, we give the weight distribution of extended code $\overline{C}_{(n,1,\delta,1)}$ and the parameters of dual code $C^{\perp}_{(n,1,\delta,1)}$, where $\delta_2\leq \delta \leq \delta_1$.

On Infinite Families of Narrow-Sense Antiprimitive BCH Codes Admitting 3-Transitive Automorphism Groups and their Consequences

Abstract:The Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes are a well-studied subclass of cyclic codes that have found numerous applications in error correction and notably in quantum information processing. A subclass of attractive BCH codes is the narrow-sense BCH codes over the Galois field $\mathrm{GF}(q)$ with length $q+1$, which are closely related to the action of the projective general linear group of degree two on the projective line. This paper aims to study some of the codes within this class and specifically narrow-sense antiprimitive BCH codes (these codes are also linear complementary duals (LCD) codes that have interesting practical recent applications in cryptography, among other benefits). We shall use tools and combine arguments from algebraic coding theory, combinatorial designs, and group theory (group actions, representation theory of finite groups, etc.) to investigate narrow-sense antiprimitive BCH Codes and extend results from the recent literature. Notably, the dimension, the minimum distance of some $q$-ary BCH codes with length $q+1$, and their duals are determined in this paper. The dual codes of the narrow-sense antiprimitive BCH codes derived in this paper include almost MDS codes. Furthermore, the classification of $\mathrm{PGL} (2, p^m)$-invariant codes over $\mathrm{GF} (p^h)$ is completed. As an application of this result, the $p$-ranks of all incidence structures invariant under the projective general linear group $\mathrm{ PGL }(2, p^m)$ are determined. Furthermore, infinite families of narrow-sense BCH codes admitting a $3$-transitive automorphism group are obtained. Via these BCH codes, a coding-theory approach to constructing the Witt spherical geometry designs is presented. The BCH codes proposed in this paper are good candidates for permutation decoding, as they have a relatively large group of automorphisms.

Abstract:BCH codes form an important subclass of cyclic codes, and are widely used in compact discs, digital audio tapes and other data storage systems to improve data reliability. As far as we know, there are few results on $q$-ary BCH codes of length $n=\frac{q^{m}+1}{q+1}$. This is because it is harder to deal with BCH codes of such length. In this paper, we study $q$-ary BCH codes with lengths $n=\frac{q^{m}+1}{q+1}$ and $n=q^m+1$. These two classes of BCH codes are always LCD codes. For $n=\frac{q^{m}+1}{q+1}$, the dimensions of narrow-sense BCH codes of length $n$ with designed distance $\delta=\ell q^{\frac{m-1}{2}}+1$ are determined, where $q>2$ and $2\leq \ell \leq q-1$. Moreover, the largest coset leader is given for $m=3$ and the first two largest coset leaders are given for $q=2$. The parameters of BCH codes related to the first few largest coset leaders are investigated. Some binary BCH codes of length $n=\frac{2^m+1}{3}$ have optimal parameters. For ternary narrow-sense BCH codes of length $n=3^m+1$, a lower bound on the minimum distance of their dual codes is developed, which is good in some cases.

Quantum Constacyclic BCH Codes over Qudits: A Spectral-Domain Approach

Abstract:We characterize constacyclic codes in the spectral domain using the finite field Fourier transform (FFFT) and propose a reduced complexity method for the spectral-domain decoder. Further, we also consider repeated-root constacyclic codes and characterize them in terms of symmetric and asymmetric $q$-cyclotomic cosets. Using zero sets of classical self-orthogonal and dual-containing codes, we derive quantum error correcting codes (QECCs) for both constacyclic Bose-Chaudhuri-Hocquenghem (BCH) codes and repeated-root constacyclic codes. We provide some examples of QECCs derived from repeated-root constacyclic codes and show that constacyclic BCH codes are more efficient than repeated-root constacyclic codes. Finally, quantum encoders and decoders are also proposed in the transform domain for Calderbank-Shor-Steane CSS-based quantum codes. Since constacyclic codes are a generalization of cyclic codes with better minimum distance than cyclic codes with the same code parameters, the proposed results are practically useful.

Abstract:This paper presents a study on the structure of 1-generator quasi-cyclic (QC) codes over the non-chain ring , where , and is a finite field of cardinality ; p is a prime. A minimal spanning set and size of these codes are determined. A sufficient condition for 1-generator QC codes over R to be free is given. BCH-type bounds on the minimum distance of free QC codes over R are also presented. Some optimal linear codes over are obtained as the Gray images of quasi-cyclic codes over R . Some characterizations of the Gray images of QC codes over R in and are done. As an application, we consider self-orthogonal subcodes of the Gray images of QC codes over R to obtain new and better quantum codes than those are available in the literature.

Good binary quantum codes with transversal CCZ gate

Abstract:We give an asymptotically good family of quantum CSS codes on qubits with a transversal CCZ gate, meaning that the parallel logical CCZ on all logical qubits is performed by parallel physical CCZs on (a subset of) physical qubits. The construction is based on the observation that any classical code satisfying a multiplication property can be used to construct a quantum CSS code with transversal (qudit) CCZ. To obtain a constant-rate and linear-distance family, we then instantiate this construction with a classical good family of algebraic-geometry codes on a non-binary, but constant-sized, alphabet. Finally, we use a technique from the arithmetic secret sharing literature to reduce the alphabet to binary. As a corollary, the constructed code family provides a magic state distillation scheme with constant space overhead.

A Class of Narrow-Sense BCH Codes

Abstract:BCH codes are an important class of cyclic codes which have applications in satellite communications, DVDs, disk drives, and two-dimensional bar codes. Although BCH codes have been widely studied, their parameters are known for only a few special classes. Recently, Ding et al. made some new progress in BCH codes. However, we still have very limited knowledge on the dimension of BCH codes, not to mention the weight distribution of BCH codes. In this paper, we generalize the results on BCH codes from several previous papers. The dimension of narrow-sense BCH codes of length $\frac{q^m-1}{\lambda}$ with designed distance $2\leq \delta \leq \frac{q^{\lceil(m+1)/2 \rceil}-1}\lambda+1$ is settled, where $\lambda$ is any factor of $q-1$. The weight distributions of two classes of narrow-sense BCH codes of length $\frac{q^m-1}2$ with designed distance $\delta=\frac{(q-1)q^{m-1}-q^{\lfloor(m-1)/2\rfloor}-1}2$ and $\delta=\frac{(q-1)q^{m-1}-q^{\lfloor(m+1)/2\rfloor}-1}2$ are determined. The weight distribution of a class of BCH codes of length $\frac{q^m-1}{q-1}$ is determined. In particular, a subclass of this class of BCH codes is optimal with respect to the Griesmer bound. Some optimal linear codes obtained from this class of BCH codes are characterized.

Abstract:BCH codes are an interesting class of cyclic codes due to their efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In the past sixty years, a lot of progress on the study of BCH codes has been made, but little is known about the properties of their duals. Recently, in order to study the duals of BCH codes and the lower bounds on their minimum distances, a new concept called dually-BCH code was proposed by authors in \cite{GDL21}. In this paper, the lower bounds on the minimum distances of the duals of narrow-sense BCH codes with length $\frac{q^m-1}{\lambda}$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$ are developed, where $\lambda$ is a positive integer satisfying $\lambda\, |\, q-1$, or $\lambda=q^s-1$ and $s\, |\,m$. In addition, the sufficient and necessary conditions in terms of the designed distances for these codes being dually-BCH codes are presented. Many considered codes in \cite{GDL21} and \cite{Wang23} are the special cases of the codes showed in this paper. Our lower bounds on the minimum distances of the duals of BCH codes include the bounds stated in \cite{GDL21} as a special case. Several examples show that the lower bounds are good in some cases.

Abstract:Due to wide applications of BCH codes, the determination of their minimum distance is of great interest. However, this is a very challenging problem for which few theoretical results have been reported in the last four decades. Even for the narrow-sense primitive BCH codes, which form the most well-studied subclass of BCH codes, there are very few theoretical results on the minimum distance. In this paper, we present new results on the minimum distance of narrow-sense primitive BCH codes with special Bose distance. We prove that for a prime power $q$, the $q$-ary narrow-sense primitive BCH code with length $q^m-1$ and Bose distance $q^m-q^{m-1}-q^i-1$, where $\frac{m-2}{2} \le i \le m-\lfloor \frac{m}{3} \rfloor-1$, has minimum distance $q^m-q^{m-1}-q^i-1$. This is achieved by employing the beautiful theory of sets of quadratic forms, symmetric bilinear forms and alternating bilinear forms over finite fields, which can be best described using the framework of association schemes.

Abstract:Cyclic BCH codes and negacyclic BCH codes form important subclasses of cyclic codes and negacyclic codes, respectively, and can produce optimal linear codes in many cases. To the best of our knowledge, there are few results on the dual codes of cyclic and negacyclic BCH codes. In this paper, we study the dual codes of narrow-sense cyclic BCH codes of length $q^m+1$ over a finite field $\mathbb{F}_q$, where $q$ is an odd prime power, and the dual codes of narrow-sense negacyclic BCH codes of length $\frac{q^{m}+1}{2}$ over $\mathbb{F}_q$, where $q$ is an odd prime power satisfying $q\equiv 3~({\rm mod}~4)$. Some lower bounds on the minimum distances of the dual codes are established, which are very close to the true minimum distances of the dual codes in many cases. Sufficient and necessary conditions for the even-like subcodes of narrow-sense cyclic BCH codes of length $q^{m}+1$ being cyclic dually-BCH codes are given in terms of designed distances, where $q$ is odd and $m$ is odd or $m\equiv 2~({\rm mod~}4)$. The concept of negacyclic dually-BCH codes is proposed, and sufficient and necessary conditions in terms of designed distances are presented to ensure that narrow-sense negacyclic BCH codes of length $\frac{q^{m}+1}{2}$ are dually-BCH codes, where $q\equiv 3~({\rm mod}~4)$.

Abstract:In this note, we present a construction of new nonbinary quantum codes with good parameters. These codes are obtained by applying the Calderbank-Shor-Steane (CSS) construction. In order to do this, we show the existence of (classical) cyclic codes whose defining set consists of only one cyclotomic coset containing at least two consecutive integers.

Abstract:In this paper, we are interested in right (resp., left) quasi-polycyclic (QP) codes of length with an associated vector , which are a generalization of quasi-cyclic codes (QC) and quasi-twisted (QT) codes. They are defined as invariant subspaces of by the right (resp., left) QP operator (resp., ). A correspondence between the right (resp., left) -QP codes and the linear codes of length over the ring (resp., , ) is given. This correspondence leads to some basic characterizations of these codes such as generator and parity check polynomials. Moreover, we also discuss the structure of the 1-generator QP codes, and we prove BCH-like and the Hartmann–Tzeng-like bounds on the minimum distance of QP codes. Finally, we give examples of new quantum codes derived from QP codes as an application of some of the results. Several of these codes are MDS.

Abstract:In this paper, we present a characterization of (binary and non-binary) quantum error-correcting codes. Based on this characterization, we introduce a method to construct p p -ary quantum codes using Boolean functions satisfying a system of certain quadratic relations. As a consequence of the construction, we are able to construct quantum codes of minimum distance 2 2 . In particular, we produce a class of binary quantum ( ( n , 2 n − 2 − 1 2 ( n − 1 ( n − 1 ) / 2 ) , 2 ) ) ((n,2^{n-2}-\frac 12{n-1\choose (n-1)/2},2)) -codes for odd length n ≥ 5 n\ge 5 . For n ≥ 11 n\ge 11 , this improves the result by Rains in Quantum codes of minimal distance two, 1999, showing the existence of binary quantum ( ( n , 3 ⋅ 2 n − 4 , 2 ) ) ((n,3\cdot 2^{n-4},2)) -codes for odd n ≥ 5 n\ge 5 . Moreover, our binary quantum ( ( n , 2 n − 2 − 1 2 ( n − 1 ( n − 1 ) / 2 ) , 2 ) ) ((n,2^{n-2}-\frac 12{n-1\choose (n-1)/2},2)) -codes of odd length achieve the Singleton bound asymptotically. Finally, based on our characterization some propagation rules of quantum codes are proposed and the rules are similar to those in classical coding theory. It turns out that some new quantum codes are found through these propagation rules.

Abstract:This paper presents some results on 1-generator quasi-cyclic (QC) codes and their duals over finite fields. We have explicitly obtained a set of generators for the dual of a 1-generator QC code C from the generator of C , for some restricted cases. From the form of the generators of the dual code , we have derived upper bounds on the minimum distance of . For their applications in constructing quantum codes, we have presented some criteria for 1-generator QC codes to be self-orthogonal or self-dual. Then using the CSS construction, we have obtained some new and better quantum codes with the help of self-orthogonal 1-generator QC codes.

Abstract:In this paper, by investigating the factor of the $x^n+1$, we deduce that the structure of the reversible negacyclic code over the finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q}$, where $q$ is an odd prime power. Though studying $q-$cyclotomic cosets modulo $2n$, we obtain the parameters of negacyclic BCH code of length $n=\frac{q^\ell+1}{2}$ , $n=\frac{q^m-1}{2(q-1)}$ and $n=\frac{q^{t\cdot2^\tau}-1}{2(q^t+1)}$. Some optimal linear codes from negacyclic codes are given. Finally, we discuss a class of MDS LCD negacyclic codes.

Abstract:It is well-known that cyclic codes have efficient encoding and decoding algorithms. In recent years, antiprimitive BCH codes have attracted a lot of attention. The objective of this paper is to study BCH codes of this type over finite fields and analyse their parameters. Some lower bounds on the minimum distance of antiprimitive BCH codes are given. The BCH codes presented in this paper have good parameters in general, containing many optimal linear codes. In particular, two open problems about the minimum distance of BCH codes of this type are partially solved in this paper.

Abstract:Constacyclic BCH codes are an interesting subclass of constacyclic codes because of their important theoretical and practical value. The purpose of this paper is to study the parameters of cyclic BCH codes of length and negacyclic BCH codes of length . We settle completely their dimensions. We also determine the minimum distances of a class of cyclic BCH codes of length and give a lower bound on the minimum distances of other classes of constacyclic BCH codes. As seen by the code examples in this paper, the lower bound on the minimum distances of constacyclic BCH codes we gave is very close to the true minimum distances. These -ary codes have good parameters in general.
