Abstract:The junction temperature which follows by the high voltage and giant current can lead to some serious problems, such as power attenuation, life shortening and change of voltage distribution. This paper analyzes causes of the rise in thyristor junction temperature and physical changes of materials in high temperature. In this working situation further studies show the distribution of voltage will have a significant change which may lead to the damage of thyristor or over-voltage breakdown. The study implicates the relation between junction temperature and voltage distribution. To protect the thyristor the junction temperature should be controlled and the construction needs to be optimized.
