Abstract:Four new tetrahydrofuran lignans, schpropinrins A-D ( 1–4 ), together with five known ones, were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra propinqua var. sinensis . Their structures, including absolute configurations, were characterized by means of spectroscopic analysis and ECD calculation. Compounds 1–4 featured a ketal or hemiketal substructure at C-7 and all of the isolates were tested for their anti-HIV integrase activity.

Abstract:Six new lignans (1-6), as well as five known ones (7-11) were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra chinensis. The structures of 1-6 were established on the basis of spectroscopic methods including 1D-and 2D-NMR techniques and CD experiments. Compound 1 was the first example of naturally occurring N-containing lignans featuring a nicotinoyl group. All the new compounds were evaluated for their anti-HIV-1 activities and showed EC50 values in the range 17.89-138.23 mu g/mL.

Abstract:A new secoiridoid named chinensisol (1) along with twenty known compounds were isolated from the 95% ethanol extract of Cortex fraxini. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of NMR, MS, IR and UV spectral evidences. The quinone reductase (QR) inducing activities of the compounds were evaluated and the results showed that compounds 1, 9 and 14 had moderate QR inducing activities with CD values (concentration required to double the specific activity of QR) of 72.4 ± 7.7, 34.3 ± 3.3 and 42.0 ± 0.4 μM respectively.

Abstract:Two new 18-norschiartane-type schinortriterpenoids, namely wuwezidilactones Q (1) and R (2) were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia. Their structures were determined on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis. Abstract:Three new highly oxygenated nortriterpenoids, wilsonianadilactones D–F ( 1–3 ), were isolated from the leaves and stems of Schisandra wilsoniana . Their structures were established by means of spectroscopic analysis. Compounds 1–3 showed weak anti-HIV-1 activity with the therapeutic index (TI) values (CC 50 /EC 50 ) greater than 8.16, 14.7, and 17.5, respectively.

Abstract:Three unique nortriterpenoids, schilancitrilactones A-C (1-3), were isolated from the stems of Schisandra lancifolia . Compound 1 possesses a 5/5/7/5/5/5-fused hexacyclic ring system with a C(29) backbone, while 2 and 3 feature a C(27) skeleton with a 5/7/5/5/5-fused pentacyclic ring system. Their absolute stereochemistries were established by CD and single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiments. Compound 3 showed anti-HIV-1 activity with an EC(50) value of 27.54 μg/mL, and 1 exhibited antifeedant activity at 15.73 μg/cm(2).

Abstract:Two new lignans, named zuihonins E (1) and F (2), were isolated from the stems of Schisandra bicolor Cheng var. tuberculata Law. The structures of the new lignans were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic analysis, including 1D, 2D NMR, and MS experiments, and their absolute stereochemistry was determined by circular dichroism spectrum. Compounds 1 and 2 did not inhibit the growth of hepatoma carcinoma cell (HepG2), lung carcinoma cell (A549), and human breast carcinoma (MCF-7) cell lines.

Abstract:Two new lignans, alashinols F and G (1 and 2), together with two known analogues (-)-secoisolariciresinol (3) and meso-secoisolariciresinol (4) were isolated from the stem bark of Syringa pinnatifolia, a Mongolian folk medicine with anti-myocardial ischaemic effects. Their structures were elucidated on basis of spectroscopic data analyses, including MS and 1D and 2D NMR, and their absolute configurations were elucidated on the basis of experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroisms. The in vitro anti-inflammation and anti-hypoxia evaluations were also discussed.

Abstract:Objective:To study the chemical constitutes from the roots of Lindera glauca and the alkaloids influence on proliferation of HT-29,SGC-7901,SMMC-7721 and A549 cell lines.Methods:The constituents were isolated by column chromatography such as RP-18,Sephadex LH-20 and silica gel,and their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic data analysis and compared with literature data. The antitumor activity was determined by MTT assay.Results:Ten compounds had been isolated and identified as(-)-magnocurarine( 1),N-methyl-laurotetanine( 2),laurotetanine( 3),( +)-boldine( 4),(-)-norisoboldine( 5),( +)-norisocorydine( 6),pmethane-3,8-trans-diol( 7),p-methane-3,8-cis-diol( 8),eudesm-4( 15)-ene-7,11-diol( 9) and 4β,6β-dihydroxy-1α,5β( H)-guai-9-ene( 10). Compounds 2 ~ 4 showed significant inhibitory activities against HT-29,SGC-7901,SMMC-7721 and A549 cells.Conclusion:Compound 1,9 and 10 are isolated from this plant for the first time. The IC50 value of compound 2 against HT-29 and SGC-7901 cell lines is even lower than VP-16.

Abstract:A new compound, named coniferin B ( 1 ), and fourteen known compounds were purified and identified from the leaves and branches of Wikstroemia chamaedaphne Meisn. Their chemical structures were elucidated through analyzing spectroscopic and HRESIMS data. Compounds 2 , 3 , 5 , 7 – 9 , 11, and 13 were isolated from this plant for the first time. All compounds were assayed for cytotoxicity and activation of latent HIV activity on NH2 cells. The results showed that all compounds did not produce cytotoxicity at 10.0 μM and compounds 1 , 9 – 11 showed weak activating activity with activation folds of 4.88, 7.14, 5.3, and 6.97, respectively.

Abstract:Two new furan-2-carboxylic acids, 5-(3-hydroxy-5-(hydroxymethyl)-4-methoxyphenyl)-3-methylfuran-2-carboxylic acid (1) and 5-(4-hydroxy-5-methoxy-2-methylphenyl)-3-methylfuran-2-carboxylic acid (2), together with two known furan-2-carboxylic acids (3 and 4) were isolated from the roots of Nicotiana tabacum. Their structures were determined by means of HR-ESI-MS and extensive 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic studies. Compounds 1 and 2 were tested for their anti-tobacco mosaic virus (TMV) and cytotoxicity activities. The results revealed that compounds 1 and 2 showed high anti-TMV activity with inhibition rate of 35.8 and 32.6%. These rates are close to that of positive control. Compounds 1 and 2 also showed moderate to weak inhibitory activities against some tested human tumor cell lines with IC50 values in the range of 1.5–6.0 μM.

Abstract:Five new furofurans lignans, Brasesquilignan A–E (1–5), were isolated from the aqueous ethanol extract of Selaginella braunii Baker. Their structures were elucidated by extensive analysis of NMR and HRESIMS data. Their absolute configurations were determined by CD spectra, enzymatic hydrolysis, and GCMS analysis. Furthermore, all compounds were evaluated for anti-proliferative activities against various human cancer cellsin vitro. Compounds 2 and 3 exhibited weak inhibitorypotency against five human cancer cells.

Abstract:A new compound, 2-(3-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-3-methoxypropyl)-5-methoxycyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione (1), was isolated from the heartwood of Dalbergia cochinchinensis along with 15 known compounds, 2,4-dihydroxy-5-methoxybenzophenone (2), 3,5-dimethoxy-4′ -hydroxy-trans-stilbene (3), 7,8-dihydroxyflavanone (4), 2,3-dimethoxyxanthone (5), medicarpin (6), galangin (7), 5,7-dihydroxy-2′,3′,4′- trimethoxyisoflavanone (8), 6-hydroxy-2-(2-hydroxy-4-methoxyphenyl)-benzofuran (9), 3′-O-methylviolanone (10), 2′,5,7-trihydroxy-4′-methoxyisoflavone (11), 7-hydroxy-6-methoxyflavone (12), formononetin (13), pterocarpol (14), 2′-hydroxyformonetin (15), and naringenin (16). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic means and comparison with published data. Compounds 1–5, 7–9, and 11 were isolated from Dalbergia L. for the first time, and compounds 1–11, 13, 15, and 16 were isolated from D. cochinchinensis for the first time.

Abstract:A new sesquiterpene lactone (1) was obtained from the cytotoxic fraction of 95% ethanol extract of root barks of Tsoongiodendron odorum Chun together with two known sesquiterpene lactones, costunolide (2) and parthenolide (3). The structure of 1 was elucidated as 5 alpha, 6 alpha, 7 beta, 10 beta - 11 alpha, 13-dihydro-4(15)-eudesmene-12, 6-olide on the basis of chemical and spectral evidence including X-ray diffraction analysis. Costunolide showed cytotoxic activity against human leukemia (HL-60) cell line. Parthenolide showed promising cytotoxic activities in vitro against HCT-8, Bel-7402, SKOV3, KB, HELA and EJ cell lines. Also, the cytotoxic ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of the root barks from which three chemical components were isolated showed promising cytotoxic activities in vitro against KB, BGC-823, Bel-7402, HCT-8, HL-60 cell lines.
