Abstract:The simulated room impulse responses with different frequency characteristics of reverberation time were obtained at the same listening position by modeling a typical classroom. Chinese speech intelligibility was evaluated by grade 3 and 5 children, and adults under the low frequency characteristics of reverberation conditions through convolving these room impulse responses with speech signals recorded in the anechoic chamber. The results show that the longer the mid-frequency reverberation time is and the younger subjects are, the lower speech intelligibility score is for the same age group. The excessive low frequency reverberation has a significant impact on Mandarin Chinese speech intelligibility. The intelligibility scores in the case that reverberation time in low-frequency was longer than that in mid-frequency were lower than those in the case that reverberation time in low-frequency was shorter than that in mid-frequency for the same age group.
