Abstract:A compact substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) filter with defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed. The DGS is etched on the ground plane of the SIW cavity, and it behaves as a resonator. Under such condition, better frequency selectivity contributed to three transmission zeros is obtained, and two of them are located at the lower stopband. The proposed filter, fabricated using standard printed circuit board technology, has the advantages of compactness, good spurious suppression characteristics and low cost. Its measured S-parameters agree well with the simulated ones.

Abstract:A novel defected ground structure (DGS) with 50/spl Omega/ microstrip line is investigated for lowpass filter applications. The basic resonant element of the proposed DGS unit shows the characteristics of elliptic function. The equivalent lumped circuit model for the DGS is developed and its parameters are extracted. Based on the DGS, a lowpass filter with sharp rejection in the stopband using 50/spl Omega/ microstrip line is developed. The theoretical and measured results are presented.

Abstract:Hi-Lo microstrip low-pass filter’s structure is simple and it is easy to processing.The conductor strip of the filter can be directly printed on the thin medium.So this type of filter is often used in the system as a frequency selective component to reject interference signal and harmonic signal.In this paper,according to the basic principle of transmission line,a X-band low-pass filter is designed to filter the secondary harmonic signal of 11GHz local oscillator signal.The filter is designed and simulated by electromagnetic simulation software HFSS.After optimization,the band rejection of 22GHz frequency can reach-38dB and the VSWR of 11GHz frequency can reach 1.13.The size of the final filter is 14mm 6mm 0.508mm.We made a real object and tested its properties,the test result can almost satisfy the requirement of the system.

Abstract:In this paper, a novel compact wideband rejection LPF using defected ground structure (DGS) is presented. The proposed LPF consists of hi-lo etched slots in ground metallic plane as defected ground structure(DGS) and of microstrip hi-lo structure, which corresponding to capacitance and Inductance on the top layer. The effect of the DGS slot on the characteristics of the investigated filter is examined. In this work we have proposed a simple method to realize a compact DGS LPF with good characteristics . In order to prove the efficiency of the method, a comparison is made between the new DGS LPF and conventional filters , which shows that the proposed filter with etched cells is enough to obtain better performance by suppressing ripples and a very large stop band. Measured results are found to be in good agreement with the simulation results.

Abstract:The excellent cutoff and bandgap characteristics of defected ground structure (DGS) for compensated microstrip line(CML) are discussed based on electromagnetic(EM) simulation and circuit analysis. Using five DGS unit lattices with identical periodic dimension, a novel lowpass filter (LPF) having no open stub, high impendence line and T- or cross-junction is designed. Comparison between simulation and measurement confirm the validity of the LPF's configuration. Also, simple structure and high power handling capability are obtained from the proposed LPF.

Abstract:A novel fractal defected ground structure (DGS) for the microstrip line is proposed. The DGS unit lattice is realized by replacing the etched rectangular holes in ground plane with a Sierpinski carpet. The proposed fractal DGS can provide better bandgap, slow‐wave characteristics, and selectivity at cutoff than the conventional dumbbell‐shaped DGS. Furthermore, the fractal DGS is applied effectively to design a low‐pass filter (LPF). A comparison between simulation and measurement confirms the validity of the LPF configuration and design procedure. Abstract:A novel method is proposed for U-shaped DGS's cut-off frequency using straight microstrip line in this paper.With straight microstrip lines and one U-shaped DGS lattice,a low-pass filter(LPF) of wide stop-band is optimized and designed.And a method about controlling the cut-off frequency of the designed low-pass filter by altering the length of microstrip is proposed.The transmission characteristics of the proposed filter and the filter designed by using a dumb DGS cell with low impedance microstrip line and coupling DGS cells in literature are presented and discussed.Finally,the simulated and experimental results verify the validity of the proposed LPF.

Abstract:A novel lowpass filter (LPF) with a sharp roll-off and a wide stopband is presented. The proposed LPF is based on a dual-plane structure with an interdigital shape defected ground structure (DGS). The DGS exhibits a sharp roll-off and three transmission zeros. By tuning the length of the fingers, the resonant frequency can be easily changed. Based on the proposed DGS, a LPF has been designed, fabricated and measured. The transition band is from 3.11 (f c) to 3.23 GHz with −3.02 and −22.5 dB, respectively. The stopband with rejection better than 25 dB can be extended to 3.4 f c.

Abstract:A compact and small lowpass filter (LPF) with a pair of coupling slots for wide stopband suppression is presented. Based on a classic dumbbell DGS cell, a pair of coupled parasitic slots has a good mutual coupling effect with it, which can be used to improve the stopband characteristic significantly. We extended the stopband to six times the cutoff frequency of 3 GHz with a smaller size, about 15 x 15 mm, which is superior to the conventionally cascaded dumbbell DGS-LPF in reduction of the harmonic passbands and the size. In addition, a good skirt response can be also achieved by controlling the dimensions of a pair of coupling slots.

Abstract:A novel defected ground structure unit is presented in this paper. This structure is composed of a traditional dumbbell DGS and a pair of coupling stubs in the aperture. In contrast to a single finite attenuation pole characteristic offered by the conventional dumbbell DGS, the proposed DGS unit provides dual finite attenuation poles that can be independently controlled. By adjusting the position of the two attenuation poles, a much sharper skirt and wider stopband could be achieved. A lowpass filter with a cut off frequency of 3.2 GHz utilizing four cascaded novel DGS units is designed, fabricated and measured. This lowpass filter achieves a wide stopband with over 30dB attenuation up to 30 GHz. The results obtained from simulation and measurement have good agreement.

Abstract:This contribution presents, for the first time, the design of microwave lowpass filter with ultrawide stopband and low insertion loss based on the log-periodic zig-zag defected ground structure (DGS); the design is specifically evolved from the principle of the log-periodic line antenna and the slotline based DGS. Based on the log-periodic property, studies show that ultra-wideband suppression can be realized by increasing the flare angle or the angle subtended by each element of the slotline DGS. The developed filter therefore shows low insertion loss of 0.7 dB within the passband, sharp transition between the passband and the stopband and ultra-wide suppression band from 2.61-26.5 GHz with a 20 dB suppression level. The DGS architecture is simple and easy to realize, and the design is thus useful in many microwave applications. The fabricated prototype filter validates the study, both from simulations and from measurements.

Abstract:A novel butterfly shape defected ground structure for microstrip line was proposed. Its band-gap characteristics and slow-wave characteristics were discussed. Including the transmission loss, equivalent circuit modeling for the proposed microstrip line was built and its parameters were extracted. The effects of DGS dimensions on stop-band characteristics were presented. Furthermore, a compact DGS low-pass filter was designed and measured. The validity of the DGS filter is verified by the agreement between simulated and measured results.

Abstract:A novel slot-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) on the microstrip line to provide a band-rejection property with an improved Q factor is proposed in this paper. It has a size of only 11% of conventional dumbbell DGS unit section and 26.8% of U sharp DGS unit section, while the Q factor is 7.6 times than dumbbell DGS and 3.2 times than U-sharp DGS at the same resonant frequency of 4.88GHz. A minimized two-pole bandstop filter based on the newly proposed DGS is designed and simulated. It has a 3dB cutoff frequency of 3.38GHz with 37dB rejection in the stopband from 3.63 to 3.75GHz, the size of the filter is less than 0.35 lambda g x 0.16 lambda g.

Abstract:A new defected ground structure (DGS) for the microstrip line is proposed in this paper. The proposed DGS unit structure can provide the bandgap characteristic in some frequency bands with only one or more unit lattices. The equivalent circuit for the proposed defected ground unit structure is derived by means of three-dimensional field analysis methods. The equivalent-circuit parameters are extracted by using a simple circuit analysis method. By employing the extracted parameters and circuit analysis theory, the bandgap effect for the provided defected ground unit structure can be explained. By using the derived and extracted equivalent circuit and parameter, the low-pass filters are designed and implemented. The experimental results show excellent agreements with theoretical results and the validity of the modeling method for the proposed defected ground unit structure.

Abstract:This article presents a novel meander-slot defected ground structure (DGS) for microstrip lines. Compared with conventional DGSs, the meander-slot DGS takes more compact size, provides steeper band rejection property and has higher quality factor (Q factor). A meander-slot DGS resonated at 3.851 GHz is illustrated and its Q factor reaches 22.39. Characteristics of this kind of DGS are investigated with variable dimension parameters. Finally, a narrow-band stop filter based on cascaded meander-slot DGSs is designed and fabricated. The measured results indicate that this filter provides sharp narrow-band-rejection from about 3.7-4 GHz, which shows good agreement with simulation. (C) 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract:This paper presents a flexible microstrip low-pass filter (LPF) fabricated on a polyimide film substrate. The proposed flexible microstrip LPF with ten cascaded asymmetrical Pi-shaped defected ground structure (DGS) resonators are designed, simulated, manufactured, and measured. The simulation and experiment results demonstrate that the designed flexible microstrip LPF has a very sharp transition band, an ultra-wide stop-band (SB) and high rejection in SB performance compared with the existed microstrip LPFs with symmetrical and asymmetrical DGS. The proposed flexible LPF with ten cascaded resonators is with a compact size of 100 mm × 2.6 mm × 0.254 mm, a very low insertion loss of less than 1.9 dB under 2.2 GHz, and a wide SB from 2.7 to 12 GHz with the rejection of larger than 50 dB. The proposed flexible LPF has the potential to be used in wireless terminals to replace the traditional RF coaxial cable because it is very thin and has good transmission and filtering functions.

Abstract:A novel lowpass filter(LPF) with compact size, which contains a pair of symmetrical dumbbell ring shaped defected ground structure (PSD-DGS) and compensated microstrip line with open shunt stubs, is presented in this paper. Sharp cut-off characteristics is obtained by the PSD-DGS, while the compensated microstrip line is used to reduce the loss of passband. Moreover, open shunt stubs is implemented to suppress harmonics and expand the stopband. Therefore, the compact lowpass filter has plenty of advantages like flat passband, sharp cut-off and wide stopband, as well as low cost and easy fabrication.

Abstract:A microstrip low-pass filter (LPF) using reformative stepped impedance resonator (SIR) and defected ground structure (DGS) is proposed in this paper. The proposed filter not only possesses the advantage of high frequency selectivity of SIR hairpin LPF with internal coupling, but also possesses the large stop-band (SB) bandwidth by adjusting the number and area of DGS units. The LPF proposed in this paper possesses the properties of miniaturization, wide SB, high selectivity, and low pass-band ripple (PBR) simultaneously. The characteristic parameters of the proposed LPF is that: the pass-band (PB) is 0~2 GHz, the PBR is 0.5 dB, the SB range is from 2.4 GHz to 9 GHz when the attenuation is under 20 dB, and the maximal attenuation could reach 45 dB in the SB. The size of this proposed LPF is 0.13 λ × 0.09 λ ; λ is the corresponding wavelength of the upper PB edge frequency of 2 GHz.

A novel high-Q band rejection filter by using V-slot defected ground structure

Abstract:This paper presents a novel V-slot DGS (defected ground structure), which provides a high-Q band rejection. Compared to conventional DGS, the V-slot DGS not only provides a high Q factor, but also has a simple shape and a steep slope of band edge. The resonance frequency, attenuation, bandwidth and Q factor are dependent on the structural parameters of the V-slot DGS. A single V-slot DGS can provide Q factor of more than 50. The band rejection filter with three cascaded V-slot DGS provides Q factor of 19.86 and rejects the frequency from 4.31 to 4.41GHz with more than 30-dB suppression. Simulation results show that the proposed DGS filter offers significant improvement of the Q factor and size reduction when compared with the conventional DGS filters. ©2008 IEEE.
