Abstract:Metal-carbenes act as the active sites in varieties of important reactions, and in this work, the possible pathways of Mo-carbene formation in Mo/Beta zeolite were explored by density functional calculations. Four chiral oxametallacyclobutane intermediates of different energies were determined for either propylene or 2-butylene, corresponding to the four independent reaction pathways. The main products were Mo-methylidene for propylene and syn-Mo-ethylidene for 2-butylene, respectively. On the basis of energy profiles, the activities of producing the Mo-carbene species were found to decrease in the order of propylene>2-butylene>ethylene, which were the compromising results of electrophilic and steric effects.

Abstract:A series of phosphine-containing cobalt complexes [CoCl2(PRPh2)(2), R = Ph (1), Cy (2), Pr-n (3), Et (4), Me (5), H (6)] has been used for the highly active and stereospecific polymerization of 1,3-butadiene upon activation with ethylaluminum sesquichloride (EASC). The high catalytic activities and polybutadienes with high cis-1,4 selectivity were obtained in the solution polymerization in toluene. The conversion of butadiene and the microstructure and molecular weight of the resulting polymers were affected by reaction parameters and the R group on the phosphine ligand. The dispersion medium was also a sensitive factor for the current catalytic systems, influencing the catalytic activity and properties of products. In comparison with the solution polymerization in toluene, the heterogeneous polymerization in isooctane yielded slightly lower catalytic activity, cis-1,4 content and molecular weight under similar reaction conditions.

Abstract:AbstractReaction of 2, 3‐dihydro‐1H‐1. 5‐benzodiazepines with dichlorocarbene generated in situ using benzyltriethylammonium chloride (TEBA) as a phase transfer catalyst in chloroform‐aqueous sodium hydroxide mixture gave mainly 1,2‐cycloadducts, cis and trans‐1a, 3‐disubstituted‐1, 1‐dichloro‐1a, 2,3,4‐tetrahydro‐1H‐azirino[1,2‐a][1,5]benzodiazepines (2.3), and formylated 1,2‐cycloadducts, trans‐1a,3‐disubstituted‐1, 1‐dichloro‐4‐formyl‐1a, 2, 3, 4–1 H‐azirino[1, 2‐a][1, 5]benzodiacepines (4). The stereo‐structures of cycloadducts and the mechanism are also discussed.

Abstract:Chemical ionization (CI) of trans- and cis-stilbene and of fumaric and maleic acid, using dichlorocarbene as reagent, was studied. In the CI ion source (CH4), dichlorocarbene added stereospecifically to the double bond of the sample molecule to form the corresponding ion of the 1,1-dichloropropane derivative. From the different relative abundances of the characteristic fragment ions of these cyclopropanes, the geometric configuration of the original substituted olefins may be predicted.

Abstract:The molecular strontium hydride 2[(dtbpCbz)SrH(L)]2 (L = benzene, toluene) was isolated and stabilized by employing a sterically demanding carbazole ligand (dtbpCbz = 1,8-bis(3,5-ditertbutylphenyl)-3,6-ditertbutylcarbazolyl). Compound 2 was synthesized via phenylsilane metathesis with the corresponding amide (dtbpCbz)SrN(SiMe3)2 and characterized by 1H NMR, XRD and vibrational spectroscopy methods. We further investigated the stoichiometric reactivity of 2 towards carbon monoxide, azobenzene and trimethylsilylacetylene, showing three distinct reactivity pathways: addition, reduction and deprotonation. The reaction of 2 with carbon monoxide yields the ethenediolate complex 4 via addition, while with azobenzene reduction of the N-N double bond and release of hydrogen were observed, affording a heteroleptic strontium complex with a radical azobenzenyl ligand (5). The terminal alkyne is deprotonated by the hydride moiety to give the acetylide complex 6.

Abstract:The 16-electron half-sandwich complex CpCo(Se2C2B10H10) (1, Cp = cyclopentadienyl) reacts with FcC(O)C CH in CH2Cl2 at ambient temperature to give [{FcC(O)CCH}(Se2C2B10H10)] (3) and [CpCo(Se2C2B10H9){CH2CC(O)Fc}] (4). Complex 3 is generated by the alkyne addition to the 1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane-1,2-diselenolate ligand in 1 with the loss of the CpCo unit. In 4, metal-induced B-H activation occurs in the B(3)/B(6) position of carborane followed by the formation of a C-B bond. In MeOH the reaction leads to an unexpected product, [{FcC(O) CHCH} CpCo(Se2C2B9H9){CH2CC(O)Fc}] (5), which contains two alkynes and a nido-C2B9 cage. In MeOH, 4 can further react with the alkyne to give 5. In the presence of silica, 4 loses the CpCo unit to afford [{FcC(O)CCH2}(Se2C2B10H9)] (6), which is a symmetrical molecule with the B-CH2 unit retained. All of these complexes have been characterized by IR, NMR, elemental analysis, mass spectrum, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:The reaction of the 16e half-sandwich complex {CpCo[S2C2B10H10]} (1S) with methyl acetylene monocarboxylate at ambient temperature led to {CpCo[S2C2B10H10] [CHC(CO2Me)CHC(CO2Me)]} (2S) and {CpCo[S2C2B10H8][CHCH(CO2Me)](2)} (3S). In2S the alkyne is 2-fold inserted into one of the Co-S bonds. 3S is a 16e B-disubstituted complex with the olefinic units in a Z/Z configuration. In comparison, {CpCo[Se2C2B10H10]} (1Se) reacted with the alkyne to give rise to {CpCo[Se2C2B10H10][CHC(CO2Me)CHC(CO2Me)]} (2Se), {CpCo[Se2C2B10H9][CH2C(CO2Me)]} (4Se), and {CpCo[Se2C2B10H8][CH2C(CO2Me)][CHCH(CO2Me)]} (5Se). 2Se is the analogue of 2S. Upon heating, 2S and 2Se catalyze cyclotrimerization of the alkyne to generate 1,3,5- and 1,2,4-tricarboxylatebenzenes. 4Se is an 18e B-substituted species with a B-CH2 unit. 5Se is analogous to 4Se, but contains an olefinic substituent at the B(3)/B(6) site of the carborane in a Z configuration. Mechanistic implications on metal-induced B-H bond activation and catalytic cyclotrimerization of alkyne were elucidated. All new complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy (H-1, B-11, C-13), and X-ray structural analyses were reported for 2S, 2Se, 3S, 4Se, and 5Se.

Abstract:In the presence of triethyl amine, the reaction of 2,4-disubstituted-2,3-dihydro- 1,5-benzothiazepine with chloro and dichloroacetyl chlorides produced not only the expected beta -lactam derivative of the benzothiazepine, but also the ring opening product. Different results were obtained when the substituent at 2-position of the bexuothiazepine varied from methyl to aryl, and the substituent on the chloroacetyl chloride varied from H to Cl, or when carrying out the reaction at different temperatures. The structures of the obtained products and the reaction mechanism are discussed.

Abstract:The reaction of the dinuclear cobalt compound [(CpCoS2C2B10H10)(CpCoSC2B10H11)(n-C4H9S)] (1) with HC CC(O)Fc leads to the cobalt-free products (C2B10H10)(SCH=CHCOFc)(2) (4-6), (S2C2B10H10)(HC=CCOFc) (7), and (C2B10H11)(SCH=CHCOFc) (8, 9). 4-6 are produced by hydrosulfuration of the alkyne at the 1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane-dithiolate ligand with the generated vinyl groups in Z/Z, Z/E and E/E configurations, respectively. In 7, the alkyne is added to 1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane-dithiolate at the two sulfur sites. 8 and 9 are the products of alkyne hydrosulfuration at the 1,2-dicarba-closo-dodecaborane-1-monothiolate ligand with the generated vinyl group in either Z or E configuration. The treatment of 1 with HC CCO2Me gives rise to the parallel products (C2B10H10)(SCH=CHCO2Me)(2) (10-12) and (C2B10H11)(SCH=CHCO2Me) (13, 14). All of the new compounds have been characterized by IR, NMR, elemental analysis and mass spectroscopy. The structures of compounds 4, 7, and 8 have also been determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract:The reactions of the 16e half-sandwich complex CpCo[S2C2(B10H10)] (Co16e) with 1,4-diethynylbenzene (L1), 3',6-diethynyl-1,1'-binaphthyl-2,7'-diyl diacetate (L2), 2-bromo-5-ethynylthiophene (L3), and 2,5-diethynylthiophene (L4) lead to 18e mononuclear complexes CpCo(S2C2B10H9)(H2CCPhC CH) (1), CpCo (S2C2B10H9)[H2CC(C24H16O4)C CH] (2), CpCo(S2C2B10H9)[H2CC(C4H2S)Br] (3), and CpCo(S2C2B10H9)[H2CC(C4H2S)C CH] (4), respectively. In all of the products the metal-induced B-H activation has occurred that leads to a new C-B bond. In the case of L4, CpCo(S2C2B10H9)[HC C(C4H2S)C=CH-CH=C(C4H2S)C CH] (5) is generated as well, in which alkyne is twofold inserted into a Co-S bond. All these products 1 similar to 5 have been characterized by NMR, IR, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis.

Abstract:Thiocarbonyl dithiocyanate (1) and chlorothiocarbonyl thiocyanate (2) were synthesized from thiophosgene and ammonium or silver thiocyanate, respectivley. Their crystal structures show syn‐anti (1) and syn (2) conformations, which were confirmed in the bulk phases by powder X‐ray diffraction, vibrational spectroscopy and DFT calculations. Further calculations explain the isolation of the kintetic reaction products by a lower transition stateas opposed to the thermodynamic reaction products. Reaction of 1 with ethanol gave a dithiobiuret derivative (3). In a proof‐ofprinciple study we show that it in turn can be used for the complexation of Ni2+ (4).

Abstract:The reaction of the 16e half-sandwich complex CpCo[S2C2B10H10] (1S) with phenylacetylene at ambient temperature led to 2S, 3S, and 4S. In 3S the alkyne is twofold inserted into one of the Co−S bonds. In 4S B-substitution occurs at the ortho-carborane cage in the position B(3)/B(6) with the formation of a C−B bond. Upon heating, 3S catalyzed the cyclotrimerization of alkyne to give rise to 1,3,5- and 1,2,4-triphenylbenzenes. In comparison, CpCo[Se2C2B10H10] (1Se) did not react with the alkyne at ambient temperature. However, if heated to 80 °C, 2Se and 4Se (an analogue to 4S) were generated. Mechanistic implications on metal-induced B−H bond activation and catalytic cyclotrimerization of alkynes were elucidated. The solid-state structures of 2Se, 3S, and 4S have been determined by X-ray crystallography.

Abstract:α,β‐Dichlorocarbonyl compounds were synthesized by facile dichlorination of α,β‐unsaturated amides with TCIA‐PPh3 and the resultant amides were converted to ketones. Conformational analyses of the products were performed to confirm our previous hypothesis regarding vicinal dichlorinated carbonyl compounds. The compounds exhibited 1H NMR signals with large coupling constants (7‐11 Hz) for the 1,2‐anti‐configuration and small coupling constants (3‐4 Hz) for the 1,2‐syn‐configuration. The syn‐pentane interaction enabled rational conformational analysis of the α,β‐dichlorinated carbonyl compounds, although some interesting exceptions were observed. Consideration of these conformations is helpful in assigning relative configurations of α,β‐dihalogenated carbonyl compounds in general.
