Phase Change Energy Storage Building Envelop: A Review For Our Recent Research

Abstract:Thermal performance of building envelops is important in reducing building energy consumption. Phase change thermal energy storage building envelops can make full use of renewable energy to reduce building operational energy consumption and increase building thermal comfort. This paper reviews our recent research advances on phase change energy storage building envelop, and introduces some new concepts of ideal energy saving building envelop developed by us, which is helpful for ideal energy efficient building envelop design and for preparations of energy storage materials used in the building envelops. Our researches on thermal physical properties and its development of phase change materials, the applications of phase change materials in passive and active thermal energy storage building envelops are introduced, respectively. Some limitations and prospects of phase change thermal energy storage building envelops are discussed at the end of this paper.
