Abstract:Two polymeric dyes containing the anthraquinone structure were prepared via solution polycondensation. Their monomers were prepared through reactions between 1,5-dichloroanthraquinone and nucleophiles. The polymeric dyes were characterized with NMR and thermogravimetry. Their ultraviolet spectra, intrinsic viscosity, and solubility were also measured. Abstract:The synthesis of (E)-2-(4-bromostyryl)quinoline involves an acid catalysed condensation of 2-methylquinoline and 4-bromobenzaldehyde. (E)-4'-[(2-(Quinolin-2-yl)vinyl)]-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4-carbaldehyde has been synthesised from (E)-2-(4-bromostyryl) quinoline and 4-formylphenylboronic acid via a Suzuki coupling reaction. A series of novel quinoline derivatives containing both a biphenyl group and an alpha, beta-diarylacrylonitrile unit have been prepared by the base-catalysed condensation between (E)-4'-[(2-(quinolin-2-yl)vinyl)]-(1,1'-biphenyl)-4-carbaldehyde and various arylacetonitriles. By contrast, the acid-catalysed condensation of the latter aldehyde with several aniline derivatives has been used to synthesise quinolines containing an imine group. These compounds, which have implications for the manufacture of organic light-emitting diodes, emit blue to green fluorescence with maximum emission peaks of 419-531 nm in solution and in the solid state under UV irradiation. Thermogravimetric analysis reveals their good thermal stability with a decomposition temperature range from 313 to 387 degrees C.

Abstract:A novel polymeric dye containing an anthraquinone ring was prepared by solution polycondensation. The molecule geometry was fully optimized on the basis of the AM1 method. The hydrogen bond was formed and retained coplanarity in the molecular structure. In its UV spectrum, a large hypsochromic shift and a hypochromic effect were observed due to polyesterification. The polymeric dye was also characterized by means of IR and TG. Its thermal degradation mechanism was elucidated. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 81: 2246–2248, 2001

Abstract:A novel series of dichroic anthraquinone dyes have been successfully synthesised with conventional Sonogashira reaction. These synthesised anthraquinone dyes were found to have high dichroic ratios, good solubilities, excellent hues and to be potential candidates for guest-host liquid crystal displays. The dichroic ratio is as high as 13.26, which is in the top level of the anthraquinone dyes reported so far. In addition, this paper provides an effective method to modulate the optic properties of anthraquinone dyes from the molecular level via the introduction of different radicals on the anthraquinone cores. Abstract:Novel polymerizable red and yellow dyes, consisting of anthraquinone chromophore, alkyl spacer, and acryloyl group, were first synthesized and then used as comonomers in the semicontinuous emulsion copolymerization of styrene, butyl acrylate, and methacrylic acid to fabricate polymer latexes. The influences of the dye monomers on the emulsion polymerization process, the latex particle size and its distribution, the molecular weight of the latex polymer, as well as the light fastness of the polymer latex films, were investigated. Results indicated that, despite of the inhibition effect of the polymerizable dyes on polymerization, stable colored polymer latexes could be prepared with high conversion of total monomers, whereas the conversion of the polymerizable dye decreased as increasing the amount of dye. The light fastness of the covalently colored polymer latex films was proved to be much better than that of the noncovalently colored polymer latex films due to the covalent bond of dye and polymer chains.

Abstract:The synthesis of a series of N-mono-and bis-alkylated derivatives of 4,5-diamino-1,-8-dihydroxyanthraquinone is described. These compounds dye synthetic polymer fibres in blue to greenish-blue shades of good fastness properties; bis-alkylation results in decreased substantivity, but excellent dyes result from the use of mixtures of mono-and bis-alkylated derivatives.

Abstract:A novel N-coumarin derivative, namely 9,10-[di-p-(7-diethylamino-coumarin-3-yl) thiopheneyl]anthracene ((CTh)2A), containing anthracene as the core and 3-thiophene N-coumarin as the substituent was synthesized, and its structure was confirmed by 1H NMR and IR spectroscopies. The optical, electrochemical and thermal properties were investigated. Thermogravimetric analysis and PL spectra reveal the high thermal and good photoluminescence characteristics. The coumarin derivative exhibits blue photoluminescence with high fluorescence quantum yield in solution (up to 40%). The results show that the derivative would serve as promising organic light-emitting diode luminescent material.

Abstract:Xanthene dyes are a series of brilliant fluorescent dyes exhibiting superior photophysical properties, which facilitate their applications in various field. Traditionally, they are prepared via acid-catalyzed condensations between electron-rich resorcinol ( m-aminophenols ) and phthalic anhydride. Recently, structurally complicated xanthenes are often in need for bioimaging applications and not readily accessed with the aforementioned methods.This has promoted the development of novel pathways for their synthesis, which are summarized in this review.The scope and limitations of each methods are briefly discussed.

Abstract:The properties and the diazotisation process of 1-ethyl-5-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-5-amino-2-pyridone were described. The conditions of the coupling reaction were also discussed and a series of new azo dyes using 1-ethyl-5-cyano-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-3-amino-2-pyridone as diazo components were synthesized. The absorption properties of these new azo dyes were investigated in various solvents and the mixture solvent of chloroform/DMSO with different volume ratios.

Abstract:Benzoquinone and 9-phenylanthracene barely undergo anticipated cycloaddition under acid catalysis. Instead, 9-anthracenyl aryl ethers are obtained as unexpected products. Mechanistic studies indicate that the reaction likely undergoes an ionic mechanism between protonated anthracene species and nucleophilic oxygen of 1,4-benzoquinone or 1,4-hydroquinone. A variety of 9-anthracenyl aryl ethers are constructed with this method. Produced anthracenyl aryl ethers are potential scaffolds for new fluorescent molecules.

Abstract:Disperse reactive dyes with appropriate chemical structure are key for the coloration of natural fibers in the water-free environmentally friendly medium of supercritical carbon dioxide with various advantages. The objective of this work is to design and synthesize a novel anthraquinonoid disperse reactive dye involving a versatile bridge group to improve the coloration properties of the dye in supercritical carbon dioxide. Cross-coupling condensation based on an Ullmann reaction between N-phenylethylenediamine and 1-chloroanthraquinone in a ligand-free system is investigated by optimizing the synthesis parameters. Notable influences are observed from the dosages of N,N-dimethyl formamide and potassium hydroxide, as well as the system temperature and reaction duration, on the isolated yield of the dye precursor. An optimized process is also recommended for synthesizing the designed novel dye. Then, the chemical structure, color characteristics, and coloration properties of the obtained dye are further investigated and successfully characterized by utilizing Fourier-transform infrared analysis, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, UV-vis absorption spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. Additionally, practical coloration experiments are performed with cotton, silk, and wool in a supercritical carbon dioxide medium.

Abstract:This paper describes the synthesis of new quinoline derivatives, molecules that has been long interest in the organic and medicinal chemistry. Through the Multicomponent Reaction (MCR), an important tool in modern synthetic methodology, that generate products with good structural complexity, in addition to economy of atoms and selectivity, we provide easy access to the preparation of quinoline derivatives. The reactions were promoted by niobium pentachloride, as a Lewis acid. Subsequently, the synthesis of new aminoquinoline derivatives with good yields was performed using Pd/C and hydrazine. The photophysical investigations of quinoline derivatives show the substituent effect on the optical properties characterization was done by absorption and photoluminescence measurements with quantum yields of up to 83 %, the presence of the amino group at position 6 at the quinoline backbone was crucial for obtaining these increased quantum yields. Results show that these molecules may have potential use for a variety of applications and mainly attracts attention because of its wide potential of applicability in optoelectronic devices.

Abstract:Developing new reactive disperse dyes and applying them to dye natural fiber substrates in the supercritical fluid of carbon dioxide (SCF–CO2) is of great importance for ecological protection and the sustainable development of the textile industry. In this work, a reactive disperse dye with an anthraquinonoid chromogen in blue hue and a dichlorotriazine reactive group was successfully designed and synthesized. The precursor of the anthraquinonoid derivative reactive disperse dye was synthesized with a one-pot amination reaction method by employing the reactions between 1, 4-dihydroxyanthraquinone or its cryptochrome 1, 4-diaminoanthraquinone and aniline, ethylenediamine. Then, the precursor was subjected to continuously react with a reactive group of cyanuric chloride to obtain a dichlorotriazine type reactive disperse dye. Moreover, the chemical structures and color characteristics of the final dye, as well as the precursor, were characterized and confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR), and ultraviolet–visible absorption spectroscopy (UV–Vis). Additionally, the anthraquinonoid derivative reactive disperse dye was preliminarily applied to the coloration of cotton and wool substrates in SCF-CO2. The coloration results show that the staining fastness and the dry, wet rubbing fastness of the reactive disperse dye on both cotton and wool substrates were satisfactory.

Abstract:A novel series of highly soluble and strongly yellow fluorescent with well-controlled, alternative anthracene, and fluorene units were successfully synthesized by a Pd/Cu-catalyzed Sonogashira coupling reaction and characterized. Their thermal stabilities, electrochemical behaviors, and photophysical properties were investigated. These oligomers might be used as models to study structure–property relationship for their corresponding polymers and applied in optoelectronics devices as materials themselves.

Abstract:A simple synthesis route with a high yield of novel asymmetric cyclopentanone dyes 3a-3e and their highly two-photon up-converted fluorescences are reported. The dyes have good solubilities in most of ordinary solvents, a wide UV absorption wavelength range from 380-540 nm, and high fluorescence quantum yields. The two-photon absorption cross-sections of dyes 3a-3e were measured in chloroform by a two-photon induced fluorescence method. All of these properties of the new dyes make them suitable for being used as two-photon fluorescent probes.

Abstract:Anthraquinone-based solvent red, yellow (or green), and blue dyes used as essential ingredients were completely dissolved in styrene miniemulsion system, and a set of nanocolorants were successfully prepared by using a modified miniemulsion polymerization process. In architecture, the obtained nanocolorants belong to a class of nanocomposite entities, in which a fraction of dye molecules are attached with crosslinked macromolecular chains and more dye being embedded in the interior of crosslinked polymer owed to the high hydrophobicity of dyes and phase separation between dye and polymer during the polymerization process. The performance characterization of the obtained nanocolorants indicated that they exhibited excellent chromatic properties attributed to the nanoscale effects of homogeneous nanocolorants, and really achieved superior migration fastness, light fastness, thermal stability, and good processibility. These nanocolorants are very applicable for aqueous ink-jet inks, color resistance, high-performance coloration for polymers, and for electrophotographic toners.
Synthesis and Spectral Characterization of a Novel Fluorescent Functional Monomer 2,4-Dimethyl-7-acrylamine-1,8-naphthyridine

Abstract:A new fluorescent functional monomer DMAAN has been designed and synthesized for the first time. The monomer was expected to bind with cytosine via complementary hydrogen bonding under certain experimental conditions. The synthetic procedure of DMAAN is as follows. A suspension of 2,6-diaminopyridine in phosphoric acid was added to acetylacetone. The mixture was warmed for thirty minutes on a steam-bath. Then 2,4-dimethyl-7-amino-1,8-naphthyridine(DMAN, mp 216-218 degrees C) was obtained. DMAAN was prepared by the reaction of DMAN with acryloyl chloride in chloroform and triethylether mixed solvent. Acryloyl chloride in anhydrous chloroform was added dropwise over 30 minutes with constant stirring at 4 degrees C. The melting point of the final product was 239-241 degrees C. Mass spectrometry and proton NMR were used to confirm the chemical structure of DMAN and DMAAN. The products were also characterized by UV and fluorescence spectrometry.
