Abstract:The direct synthesis of light olefins from syngas via Fischer-Tropsch synthesis reaction is a promising technology for direct synthesis of olefins from syngas. The key is to improve the selectivity of light olefins through the regulation of product distribution. In this work, the hydrophobic Fe@Si catalyst was prepared by room temperature solid state methodStober-silylation method, and then the catalyst was combined with SAPO-34 molecular sieves with different contents to prepare Fe@Si/S-34 composite catalysts. The effects of SAPO-34 molecular sieve content on the physicochemical properties of the catalysts were investigated by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, N-2 adsorption-desorption, NH3 temperature programmed desorption and water contact angle measurement. The results showed that the content of SAPO-34 molecular sieve has significant influence on the surface area, pore volume, acidity and hydrophobicity of the catalysts. With the increase of SAPO-34 molecular sieve content, the specific surface area and total pore volume of the catalyst increased, the weak acid and medium-strong acid sites increased, and the hydrophobicity weakened. The catalytic performance evaluation results showed that the Fe@Si/S-34 composite catalyst decomposed C5+ hydrocarbons into light hydrocarbons, significantly reduced the selectivity of C5+ products and increased the selectivity of C2 similar to C4 hydrocarbons. Appropriate SAPO-34 molecular sieve could significantly improve the selectivity of C2 similar to C-4 olefins. When the mass ratio of Fe@Si catalyst to SAPO-34 is 2, the C-2 similar to C-4 olefin selectivity of Fe@Si/S-34 catalyst is the highest, the conversion of CO is 80.0%, the selectivity of CO2 in the product is 8.9%, and the selectivity of C-2 similar to C-4 olefins is 31.1%. In this study, the hydrophobicity of Fe@Si catalyst and the cracking activity of SAPO-34 molecular sieve for C5+ hydrocarbon were coupled together to inhibit the water-gas shift (WGS) reaction, reduce the CO2 selectivity and obtain higher C-2 similar to C-4 olefin selectivity, which provided a new strategy for the development of catalysts for Fischer-Tropsch synthesis to olefins.

Abstract:The conversion of CO2 into high-value chemicals has drawn a great deal of consideration, of which the most ideal product is lower olefins. However, the modified Fischer-Tropsch (F-T) synthesis with CO as an intermediate shows poor selectivity for lower olefins. Here, a list of bifunctional catalysts consisting of SAPO-34 zeolites with adjustable silicon contents and In2O3/ZrO2 were synthesized. In the reaction process, CO2 is first hydrogenated to methanol over an In2O3/ZrO2 catalyst, and then the generated methanol rapidly diffuses to the adjacent zeolite catalyst to react to lower olefins. The selectivity of lower olefins (88.3%) and conversion rate of CO2 (23.3%) was achieved over In2O3/ZrO2 and SAPO-34-0.05 at 633 K, a gas hourly space velocity (GHSV) of 4500 ml center dot gcat(-1)center dot h(-1), and H-2/CO2/Ar = 3:1:1. The catalytic performance remained stable after 50 h of reaction. Characterization analysis showed that Si content affected the content of Bronsted acid sites (BAS) and morphology of SAPO-34, resulting in different distribution of reaction intermediates. Tetramethyl-benzenes, as important intermediate species, had a slower conversion rate on the SAPO-34 with low Si content and nanosheet morphology, which led to high lower olefins selectivity. Synthesis, characterization and catalytic performance of SAPO-34 molecular sieves for methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction

Abstract:The methanol-to-olefin (MTO) process is important because it offers an alternative to the conventional oil route for the conversion of natural gas or coal to light olefins. The most promising catalysts for the MTO reaction are solid acids with a zeolite structure, where reactants and products such as ethylene and propylene may freely diffuse through active catalysts, but products with larger kinetic diameters are trapped within the cages. In this work, SAPO-34 molecular sieves were synthesized by hydrothermal crystallization, using triethylamine (TEA) as the template. These samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, thermo-gravimetric analysis-differential scanning calorimetry, energy dispersive spectroscopy, Fourier transform-infrared (FT-IR) and N(2) adsorption-desorption. The effects of template concentration and crystallization time on the physicochemical properties and catalytic performance were investigated. The crystallinity and morphology of SAPO-34 were influenced by the concentration of the template. Pure SAPO-34 was obtained when the TEA/Al(2)O(3) molar ratio was higher than 2.0. With increased crystallization time, the Si content in SAPO-34 crystals increased, which influenced the surface acidity. FT-IR spectra indicated that all samples were dominated by Lewis acid sites and the sample crystallized for 11 h exhibited the lowest number of Lewis acid sites. The catalytic performance of SAPO-34 was tested with the MTO reaction. High selectivity to olefins (C(2)H(4) + C(3)H(6)) was obtained over the catalyst synthesized with a TEA/Al(2)O(3) ratio of 3.0 and crystallization time of 11 h. At the reaction temperature of 450 degrees C, the methanol conversion approached 100% and the yield of C(2)-C(4) olefins was more than 80%. Abstract:Synergic regulation of microstructure, morphology and acidity of SAPO-34 molecular sieve is crucial to enhance its catalytic performance for methanol to olefins (MTO) reaction. Herein, a commercial oxygen-containing organosilane 3-glycidoxypropyltrimethoxysilane (AC-230) was developed as a new mesoporogen to synthesize pure SAPO-34 nanocrystallites together with diisopropylamine and seeds. According to the conditional experiments and systematic characterizations, it was disclosed that AC-230 not only changed the morphology and particle size of the SAPO-34 crystals but also affected its compositions and acidic properties. The addition of seed was indispensable to fasten the crystallization rate and hence assure the crystal growth inhibition function of AC-230. Thanks to the formed shortened diffusion pathway, moderate acid sites and pure CHA structure of the nanosized SAPO-34 product, the catalyst demonstrates excellent catalytic performance with a longer lifetime (395 min) and higher ethylene plus propylene selectivity (82.88%) in comparison to its conventional analogs (259 min and 80.63%).

Performances of SAPO-34 Catalysts with Different Ratios of Si to Al in Methanol-to-Olefins

Abstract:SAPO-34 catalysts, used in methanol to olefins (MTO), with different n (SiO 2) : n(Al 2O 3) (0.15-0.80) were prepared hydrothermally with tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide and triethylamine as templates. The SAPO-34 catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, SEM, BET and NH 3-TPD. The results indicated that when n(SiO 2) : n(Al 2O 3) was 0.30, crystallinity of the prepared catalyst was maximal, and its specific surface area and crystallite size range were 490 m 2/g and 0.6-1.5 μm respectively. With increase of n(SiO 2) : n(Al 2O 3), crystallinity and crystallite size of the catAlysts decreased, but its specific surface area increased. Under optimal MTO conditions: temperature 425°C, methanol WHSV 1 h -1 and n(SiO 2) : n(Al 2O 3) of SAPO-34 catalyst, conversion of methanol, the total selectivity to ethylene and propylene, and lifetime of the catalyst could reached 100.0%, 86.87% and 546 min, respectively. With increase of n (SiO 2) : n (Al 2O 3), the tot Al selectivity to ethylene and propylene and the lifetime of the catalysts All reduced.

Abstract:The effect of different combinations of a new tri-templating agent TEAOH/DEA/TEA, namely tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide (TEAOH)/diethylamine (DEA)/triethylamine (TEA), on the catalytic performance of SAPO-34 was investigated in MTO conversion. It was found that SAPO-34 and SAPO-5 are competing phases at TEA concentrations higher than 40 %. Pure SAPO-34 with high crystallinity, large BET surface area and small crystal size (0.8~1.4μm) was obtained at a low TEA concentrations. The combination of TEAOH/DEA/TEA strongly governed the acidity of crystals. TEAOH:DEA:TEA=0.67:0.67:0.67 gave an economical catalyst active in MTO reaction with 100 methanol conversion, 89.39 ethylene and propylene selectivity, a longest lifetime and a high coke capability of 24.2 wt %.

Abstract:The SAPO-34/ZSM-5 composite catalyst (SZ-TS) was successfully fabricated using a two-step in situ crystallization method. X-ray diffraction, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, N2 adsorption–desorption, and ammonia temperature-programmed desorption measurements were used to characterize the synthesized catalysts and evaluate their catalytic performances on methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction. The synthesis mechanism of two-step in situ crystallization was further investigated. Results showed that the SZ-TS synthesized by two-step in situ crystallization featured an intimately bonded composite structure owing to the synergistic effects of the interface. However, the physical mixture of SAPO-34 and ZSM-5 (SZ-PM) presented two discrete phase structures. By using the composite catalyst in MTO reaction, the SZ-TS exhibited the longest life of 1400 min, which was much higher than that of SZ-PM (720 min). Methanol conversion reached 97.3%, and the selectivity for light olefins totalled 93.0%. The excellent catalytic performance of SZ-TS was attributed to the hierarchical pore structure and suitably weak acid site distribution. Via pre-crystallization, alkalinity can be adjusted in the adjacent ranges of SAPO-34 and ZSM-5. By adding the pre-crystallized alkaline SAPO-34 slurry into the strong alkaline system of the parent ZSM-5 slurry, phase dissolution of SAPO-34 in the secondary crystallization solution was avoided. The external surface of SAPO-34 was etched in the alkaline environment of the secondary crystallization solution, resulting in hierarchical pore distribution, which benefited the MTO reaction. This in situ synthesis method features the advantages of simplicity, low time consumption, and low cost. Therefore, this approach possesses the potential to satisfy the demands of the MTO market.

Abstract:This work aims at revealing the reaction and carbon behavior of SAPO-34/ZSM-5 composite molecular sieve (SZ-TS) in MTO reaction, which is synthesized via in situ two-step crystallization method. Several tests are used to explore the structure–activity relationship of the SZ-TS. The results show that the strength of weak and medium-strong acid is suitable, the particle size of two-phase molecular sieve is decreased, the hierarchical pore structure with abundant mesoporous is formed. By using the SZ-TS in MTO reaction, the methanol conversion and light olefins selectivity are 98% and 92.7%, respectively. These results can be attributed to the interface phase effect produced by etching and dissociation on the skeleton of the nuclear phase SAPO-34. The result of in situ IR and analysis of carbon deactivation indicate that polymethylbenzene is generated as the active intermediate of MTO reaction.SZ-TS with appropriate acid sites and rich mesoporous distribution could alleviate the formation rate of methyl-substituted benzene and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, smaller particle size can avoid the occurrence of secondary reactions of olefins, therefore displaying the excellent resistance to the carbon deposition inactivation, with a catalytic lifetime up to 1380 min.

Abstract:In order to enhance the catalytic performance of SAPO-34 for the reaction of methanol to olefins (MTO), a mixture template of triethylamine (TEA) and tetraethyl ammonium hydroxide (TEAOH) was used to synthesize SAPO-34. The effects of the composition of the mixed template on the chemical composition, morphology and surface acidity of SAPO-34 were characterized by XRD, SEM, XRF, Si MAS NMR and NH3-TPD techniques. The catalytic performance of prepared SAPO-34 was investigated in a fixed-bed reactor at 450°C for the MTO reaction. The results show that the chemical composition, morphology, crystal size and Si incorporation of SAPO-34 are affected greatly by the molar ratio of TEAOH/TEA. For the MTO reaction, all catalysts prepared show similar methanol conversion and product distribution, but their olefins selectivity and lifetime are greatly dependent on the ratio of TEAOH/TEA in the synthesis solution. Comparing with the SAPO-34 synthesized with single template, SAPO-34 synthesized with TEAOH/TEA=0.1 possesses larger surface area, mild acidity and small crystal size and exhibits higher selectivity to light olefins (C2–C4), longer lifetime and lower carbon deposition rate.

Abstract:Methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction was investigated over sonochemically (SAPO-34-U40, SAPO-34-U70, SAPO-34-U100) and hydrothermally (SAPO-34-HT) prepared nanocatalysts. The catalytic performance of prepared samples was investigated over all samples at 450 °C and over SAPO-34-U40 at 350–450 °C temperature range. The higher yield ~ 97 wt% (31.4 wt% C2=, 49.4 wt% C3= and 16.1 wt% sumC4=) of light olefins was obtained at 375 °C on SAPO-34-U40. Physico-chemical properties of catalysts were characterized by XRD, SEM, BET, ICP techniques. XRD analysis showed suitable crystalline structure and SEM images confirmed perfect crystallinity of sonochemically prepared samples. BET analysis indicated remarkable surface area of SAPO-34-U40. The amount of carbon deposits and character of coke was determined by TPO analysis. The higher amount of coke was determined over SAPO-34-HT in comparison to another’s at 450 °C. The character of coke deposited over SAPO-34-U40 was similar for 375–425 °C temperatures.
Hierarchical Low-Silica SAPO-34 with Enhanced MTO Performance: Mesopore Template- and Fluoride-Free Synthesis

Abstract:The inherent mass transport limitations and undesired acidity of silicoaluminophosphate SAPO-34 catalysts are two key factors that result in a fast deactivation rate in the methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction. Herein, we demonstrate that SAPO-34 with hierarchical pore architecture and different silicon contents can be rationally synthesized by hydrothermal treatment of homogeneous amorphous silicoaluminophosphate precursors in the absence of mesopore templates and fluoride. It reveals that the hierarchical architecture is formed by in situ alkaline TEAOH etching of framework atoms. The silicon content (acidity) of the products can be facilely tuned in wide range. 29Si MAS NMR spectra reveal silicon mainly exists in the form of Si(4Al) in low-silica SAPO-34 catalysts free from silica islands. The hierarchical SAPO-34 catalyst with a moderate silicon content (nSi/n(Si + Al + P) = 0.048) and small particle size (265 +/- 94 nm) exhibits a prolonged catalytic lifetime as well as a higher selectivity in MTO reaction, attributing to the synergetic effect of a fast diffusion speed and an appropriate acidic density.
Synthesis of SAPO-44 molecular sieve and its catalytic performance in methanol-to-olefins reaction

Abstract:SAPO-44 molecular sieves with different Si contents were hydrothermally synthesized by using cyclohexylamine as the template. The samples were characterized by XRD, SEM, NH3-TPD and tested as the methanol-to-olefins (MTO) catalysts. The results showed that, as the Si/Al ratio increased, the relative degree of crystallinity and the surface acidity increased, and some non-cubic crystals were found out. At the same time, the initial selectivity of olefins decreased and the propylene/ethylene mass ratio increased with the Si content of SAPO-44 sample.

Abstract:SAPO-34 molecular sieves with different Si contents were synthesized and used as catalysts for conversion of chloromethane to light olefins. The influences of different Si amounts on crystalline structures,morphology features,textural properties and acidity of SAPO-34 samples were characterized with XRD,NH3-TPD,and29Si MASNMR. Uniform SAPO-34 cubic crystals could be formed when ratio of Si/Al was in the range of 0.10—0.80. When ratio of Si/Al was 0.6,relative crystallinity of SAPO-34 sample was the highest,microporous specific surface area was 588m2/g,and microporous volume was 0.267cm3/g. NH3-TPD results showed that when ratio of Si/Al was gradually increasing from 0.05 to 0.60,acid strength and acid amount were obviously enhanced,and acid strength was increasd with decreasing weak acid amounts when ratios of Si/Al was increased from 0.60 to 1.0. When conversion of chloromethane to light olefins was performed over SAPO-34 catalysts at 425℃,activity and stability of SAPO-34 catalysts were gradually improved with increasing ratio of Si/Al while selectivities of propene and ethene were slightly decreasing due to aggravated secondary reactions.

Abstract:Bifunctional process integrating methanol synthesis and methanol-to-olefins provides a new synthetic strategy for lower olefins (C2−C4=), whereas designing matchable zeolite component is still challenging due to the harsh reaction conditions. Herein, a hierarchical SAPO-34 zeolite with a sandglass-like hollow structure is synthesized from an aluminum-rich precursor gel, which provides an abundance of crystal defects during zeolite crystallization. The bifunctional catalyst obtained by integrating the hierarchical SAPO-34 and ZnO-ZrO2 oxide offers a C2−C4= selectivity of 80% at 25% CO conversion with excellent stability in syngas conversion. We demonstrate that at the presence of high-pressure hydrogen, a moderate density of acid sites is the prerequisite for obtaining high C2−C4= selectivity in syngas/methanol conversion, because the olefins are easily hydrogenated into alkanes by excessive Brӧnsted acid sites. The hierarchical architecture significantly prolongs the lifetime of bifunctional catalysts, by facilitating C2−C4= desorption and slowing down the coking rate.

Abstract:The dimethyl ether to olefins process is very important for converting coal to chemicals. A SAPO-34 molecular sieve with a particle size up to 50 μm has been synthesized with morpholine as the template. The cold model fluidization experiment indicates that the SAPO-34 catalyst with average size of 45–50 μm is of good fluidization properties. After high temperature steam treatment at 1073 K for 8 h, this large fluidizable catalyst showed good reactivity and selectivity for the dimethyl ether to olefins (DTO) reaction in a micro-reactor. X-ray diffraction characterization showed that the structure of the catalyst was maintained well. A fluidized reactor of 50 mm inner diameter was used to carry out the DTO reaction, which showed that the fluidizable SAPO-34 is a selective catalyst for light olefin production.

Abstract:SAPO-34 catalysts with high selectivity for light olefins were first synthesized via the introduction of phosphomolybdic acid (HPMo) and AlPO 4 -5 zeolite into the initial gel. The physical and chemical characteristics of the synthesized catalysts were determined by a series of techniques and the catalytic performance of the modified composite zeolites for the methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction was investigated. The results indicated that HPMo-modified SAPO-34 was featured with more Brønsted acid sites, more mesopores, and a smaller crystal size, thereby demonstrating superior catalytic performance. The further combination with AlPO 4 -5 (16.7 wt%) prolonged the lifetime of the HPMo-modified SAPO-34, which is thought in this paper related to its 12-ring straight channel (0.7-0.8 nm) and the absence of any Brønsted acid sites. The MTO tests showed that the light olefins selectivity for the modified composite zeolites reached 95.1%, while the catalyst lifetime remained at 445 min.

Abstract:The catalytic performance of a zeolite is largely determined by its framework topology, particle morphology and acidity. A hierarchical SAPO-34/18 zeolite with a low Si/Al ratio of 0.11-0.12 and well-ordered macropores was synthesized with the conventional hydrothermal method by just decreasing the Si content in the gel mixture, that is, the development of its hierarchical structure did not need the use of an extra template or post-processing demetallation. The hierarchical structure reduced the diffusion distance inside the zeolitic phase because the void space made it equivalent to being comprised of small zeolitic crystallites, which gave a catalytic performance akin to that of nanosized zeolite particles. Reactivity studies that used a thermogravimetry-GC combination that simultaneously measured coke in the zeolite in addition to the gaseous products from the methanol-to-olefins (MTO) process showed that the hierarchical structure and low acid site density resulted in a longer lifetime, lower selectivities to coke and propane and higher selectivities to propene and butene, that is, a better catalyst for the MTO process. Abstract:Silicoaluminophosphate zeolite (SAPO-34) has been attracting increasing attention due to its excellent form selection and controllability in the chemical industry, as well as being one of the best industrial catalysts for methanol-to-olefin (MTO) reaction conversion. However, as a microporous molecular sieve, SAPO-34 easily generates carbon deposition and rapidly becomes inactivated. Therefore, it is necessary to reduce the crystal size of the zeolite or to introduce secondary macropores into the zeolite crystal to form a hierarchical structure in order to improve the catalytic effect. In this review, the synthesis methods of conventional SAPO-34 molecular sieves, hierarchical SAPO-34 molecular sieves and nanosized SAPO-34 molecular sieves are introduced, and the properties of the synthesized SAPO-34 molecular sieves are described, including the phase, morphology, pore structure, acid source, and catalytic performance, in particular with respect to the synthesis of hierarchical SAPO-34 molecular sieves. We hope that the review can provide guidance to the preparation of the SAPO-34 catalysts, and stimulate the future development of high-performance hierarchical SAPO-34 catalysts to meet the growing demands of the material and chemical industries.

Abstract:Hierarchically core-shell-structured composite zeolite was successfully achieved by an in situ solid-solid transformation of a pre-coating MCM-41 shell layer with the help of ZSM-5 seeds under a traditional hydrothermal crystallization route. As a result, a uniform nano-sized polycrystalline ZSM-5 shell closely grows on the core SAPO-34 microsphere, thus forming a desirable core-shell structured zeolite composite. Besides, the SAPO-34 core and the polycrystalline ZSM-5 shell are intimately connected through mesosilica substrates as a "bridge" which guarantees the integrity of the core-shell structure very well, even under harsh ultrasonic treatment at a high frequency. More crucially, this innovative method effectively overcomes the chemical and structural incompatibility between the core crystals and the shell zeolite during synthesis, and simultaneously avoids the collapse and dissolution of SAPO-34 crystals mainly derived from the shielding effect of MCM-41 shell layer under a highly alkaline gel precursor yielding ZSM-5. Furthermore, the methanol-to-olefins (MTO) was selected as a probe reaction so as to investigate the catalytic performance of the core-shell It is found that besides obtaining high light olefins yield (12.3% more than that on the reference catalyst), the catalytic lifetime over core-shell catalyst is greatly improved, about 3 times as long as that over the pristine SAPO-34 and 2.6 times as long as that on the corresponding physically-blended SAPO-34+ZSM-5. The superior catalytic performances on the core-shell can be attributed to the synergetic effects between SAPO-34 (core) and ZSM-5 (shell) including different framework structures, moderate acidic properties, and well-defined hierarchical architectures.

Abstract:SAPO-34 molecular sieves were synthesized hydrothermally.The effects of templates,template amounts,pH,crystallization temperature and time on the synthesis were investigated.By means of XRD,SEM,BET and NH_3-TPD techniques,the influences of the molecular sieve structure and surface acidity on the catalytic properties were also studied.The results show that compared with DEA,TEA and TMAOH,TEAOH is the most proper template for synthesis of SAPO-34 with large BET surface areas(400 m~2/g),homogeneous cubic crystals of narrow size distribution and proper ratio of strong to weak acid sites,while the SAPO-34 prepared by using DEA as template shows strongger acidity. Using TEAOH as template with its amount in the range of n(TEAOH)∶n(Al_2O_3) of 2.02-1.35,the crystallinity of product SAPO-34 decreases upon reducing the amount of template.Reducing TEAOH amount in the range of n(TEAOH)∶n(Al_2O_3) of 1.35-1.01 leads to SAPO-5 cogenerating with SAPO-34.A directly fast heating is unfavorable for the growth of crystals.The procedure of preheating to 90-150 ℃,keeping this temperature until the transition state becomes stable and then heating to 170-250 ℃ for crystallization is favorable for the synthesis of SAPO-34 with higher crystallinity which shows the best catalytic performances with a 100% methanol conversion,a selectivity of 83.40% for C~=_2-C~=_3,and a life time of 220 min.
