Abstract:Ordered nonstoichiometric Cu1.94S nano superstructure are constructed and provide notably improved catalytic H2 evolution reaction performance at 2482.00 µmol g‒1 h‒1. Careful selection of metal organic framework precursors with long range metal ion alignments impact performance, as well-ordered superstructures give rise to uniform electromagnetic fields and organized interparticle interactions that facilitate charge carrier transport. These close packed nanoparticles with negatively charged carboxylate surfaces inhibit large [Ru(bpy)3]Cl2 and triethanolamine transport outwards, but allow smaller H2O particles to enter superstructure interiors. In this case, separation happens not only between electrons and holes but also between reduction and oxidation zones. Abundant dangling bonds also form from the complex nonstoichiometric Cu1.94S structure and bulk aggregation of close packed Cu1.94S, up to hundreds of nanometers, provides abundant catalytic active sites.

Abstract:A self-supported copper sulfide (CuS) nanowire array (NWA) of hierarchical and porous structure has been developed on Cu foil via two consecutive liquid-solid reactions at room temperature. The composition, structure and morphology of the as-prepared CuS NWA samples have been systematically investigated by a series of techniques. When applied as cathode for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) in neutral solution, the optimized CuS NWA electrode exhibits excellent HER performance with high long-term stability. To achieve current densities of 10 and 100mAcm−2, it requires overpotentials of only ∼97 and ∼226mV, respectively. The excellent catalytic performance of CuS NWA toward HER is attributable to the binder-free electrode construction strategy, the unique porous nanowire array structure, and the small solubility product (Ksp) value of CuS that guarantees the high catalyst stability.

Abstract:A novel hierarchical vanadium-doped Cu2S nanowall arrays assembled by nanowires (V-Cu2S-Nanowires NW) on copper foam is synthesized by a facile one-step solvothermal method. Interestingly, the nanoparticles furtherly constitute the smallest unit of nanowires. Owing to the unique hierarchical structure with offering plentiful electronics/ions transport pathways and fully exposing catalytic active sites as well as optimizing hydrogen adsorption free energy due to vanadium doped effect, the V-Cu2S-Nanowires NW demonstrates enhanced electrocatalytic activity towards hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) with a low loverpotential of 188 mV to drive 10 mA cm−2 and good durability for at least 20 h. This work provides an effective strategy for rational design of nanostructured Cu-based materials and enhanced energy-efficient hydrogen production.

Abstract:With the rapid electrochemical development of hydrogen evolution, the search for low-cost and high activity electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution has received extensive attention. The fabrication of self-supported Cu2S-Cu3P nanowire (Cu2S-Cu3P NW) arrays on a commercial copper foam by a liquid-solid reaction and subsequent phosphatation at low temperature is reported. The corresponding scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results indicate that the Cu2S-Cu3P NW arrays have a dense nanowire (NW) structure with sulfur and phosphorous uniformly distributed on the surface of the nanowires. Interestingly, the Cu2S-Cu3P NW arrays act as a hydrogen-evolving cathode that when operated in 1.0 m KOH electrolyte only require a low overpotential of 158 mV to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm(-2) and show a small Tafel slope of 45 mV dec(-1). The activity decrease is negligible after holding at -500 mA cm(-2) for 75 h, which thus demonstrates excellent stability. This could be due to the structure of nanowire arrays and synergistic effects between S and P, which could increase the specific surface area, reduce the charge transfer resistance, facilitate mass diffusion and electron transfers, and increase the active sites. This work therefore provides a simple method to prepare low-cost and self-supported electrocatalysts with high catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution.

Abstract:In this communication, we demonstrate the development of hierarchical CoTe2-MnTe2 hybrid nanowires grown on Ti mesh (CoTe2-MnTe2/TM) as an electrocatalyst for the oxygen evolution reaction. The catalyst exhibits excellent conductivity and exposes sufficient active sites derived from its favorable composition and structure, which only needs an overpotential of 310 mV to drive a current density of 50 mA cm-2 in 1.0 M KOH.

Abstract:The controlled chemical conversion of nanomaterials represents an important basis for both understanding the nanoscale chemical activity and exploring new desirable materials. Currently, the region selective ion-exchange transformation of two-dimensional (2D) nanosheets into three-dimensional (3D) nanostructures, especially endowed with both ultrathin features and hierarchical architecture, is highly challenging. Herein, we present a facile chemical transformation strategy to synthesize 3D hierarchical ultrathin-branched CdS nanowire arrays (3DHU-CdS) with an adjustable branch size by the reaction of 2D ZnS-amine inorganic-organic sheets with cadmium ions. The selective cation-exchange induced appearance of CdS nanocrystals on hybrid nanosheets, the following amine-assisted branched seed formation and the subsequent S2- ion self-diffusion dominated growth are found to be important for producing 3DHU-CdS. Benefiting from the unique hierarchical and ultrathin structural features, the as-prepared 3DHU-CdS exhibit enhanced visible-light-driven photocatalytic performance for the water-reduction hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Additionally, the 3DHU-CdS are found to be promising photosensitizers for constructing noble-metal-free biomimetic artificial hybrid systems. This facile selective cation-exchange induced chemical transformation strategy of inorganic-organic hybrid composites could be extended to the preparation of more complex hierarchical nanostructures which may have potential application in solar energy conversion.

Abstract:Layered Cu2MoS4, consisting of earth-abundant elements, is regarded as a potential catalyst for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Herein, we demonstrate a Cu2O-based template strategy to synthesise hierarchical hollow nanostructures of Cu2MoS4. The characterizations reveal that the electrochemically active surface of the hollow Cu2MoS4 is largely enhanced, in contrast to the nanosheet or nanoparticle structures. As the direct outcome, the designed hierarchical hollow structures display excellent HER activities with a low overvoltage and small Tafel slope. This study may provide new inspiration for the research of other ternary sulphide materials as well as subsequently accelerating their applications in the field of catalysis.

Abstract:Searching for inexpensive hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts with high activity has attracted considerable research interest in the past years. Reported herein is the topotactic fabrication of self-supported Cu3P nanowire arrays on commercial porous copper foam (Cu3P NW/CF) from its Cu(OH)(2) NW/CF precursor by a low-temperature phosphidation reaction. Remarkably, as an integrated three-dimensional hydrogen-evolving cathode operating in acidic electrolytes, Cu3P NW/CF maintains its activity for at least 25 hours and exhibits an onset overpotential of 62 mV, a Tafel slope of 67 mVdec(-1), and a Faradaic efficiency close to 100%. Catalytic current density can approach 10 mAcm(-2) at an overpotential of 143 mV.

Abstract:Here we show that a high efficient hydrogen evolution reaction which was carried out on the in-situ growth of self-supported core-shell nanowires array consisting of graphdiyne as the shell and Cu as the core on Cu foams (Cu@GD NA/CF). Subject to potential cycling treatment in 0.5 M H2SO4, the Cu@GD NA/CF exhibits highly catalytic activity for hydrogen evolution reaction with an onset overpotential of 52 mV and a Tafel slope of 69 mV dec(-1). Our findings suggest that synergetic interaction between GD and Cu is crucial for the catalytic performance of the electrode. This electrode needs only overpotentials of 79 and 162 mV to achieve catalytic current densities of 10 and 100 mA cm(-2), respectively, and maintains its catalytic activity for almost 20 h. The attractive performances of such array make it promising candidate as a future high-performance catalyst for applications. Summary: The first GD based 3D carbon nanoarchitectures with well-defined porous network structures working as a highly active hydrogen evolution cathode is developed. Its excellent electrocatalytic activities, combined with low-cost, convenient and scale-up preparation process, make it promising candidate for practical and efficient energy applications. Abstract:The high energy barrier and sluggish electron transfer are regarded as the most important reasons that restricting the performance of electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution. The hierarchical CoO@MoN heterostructure nanowire array is fabricated, with adjusted electronic structure for tuning the binding strength of intermediates. As a result, CoO@MoN exhibits an excellent activity that is close to the benchmark Pt/C toward hydrogen evolution in alkaline medium. The theoretical computations indicate that the coupling of CoO and MoN can lead to the facilitated electron transfer for the tuned band structure. Besides, the energy barrier in the reaction is greatly reduced for the ameliorated binding strength of intermediates on CoO@MoN. This work demonstrates the significance of accelerating the electron transfer and reducing the energy barrier by rationally constructing the heterostructure, which paves the road to the exploitation of highly active and cost-efficient electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution.

Abstract:The hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) holds great potential for sustainable hydrogen production but developing efficient and cost-effective electrocatalysts remains challenging. Here, we report the synthesis of a hierarchical WC/NiCoW hollow nanotube array electrocatalyst, featuring rapid gas release to minimize bubble aggregation and reaction retardation. Mechanistic insights into the HER kinetics reveal enhanced electron transfer at the WC-NiCoW interface and an accelerated Volmer step. The optimized WC/NCW-600 exhibits superior HER activity and remarkable long-term stability for over 72 h in alternated acidic, neutral, and alkaline electrolytes. This work highlights new insights into the rational structural design of durable electrocatalysts for hydrogen production.

Abstract:CuSbS2 is regarded as a promising photo-absorber for solar energy conversion due to its proper bandgap, high absorptivity and earth abundance. Herein, novel low-cost ZnO/CdS/CuSbS2 core-shell nanowire arrays were constructed as photoanode for hydrogen evolution through non-aqueous electrodeposition and cation exchange. The nanowire demonstrates even and compact multilayer structure. The optimal ZnO/CdS/CuSbS2 photoanode achieves a photocurrent of 6.48 mA/cm(2) at 0 V versus Ag/AgCI and the remarkable IPCE value with approximately 52% at 480 nm in an electrolyte solution containing 0.35 mol/L Na2SO3 and 0.25 mol/L Na2S. It also exhibited a good stability, maintained 87.9% of the initial current after 1 h measurement. The high performance benefits from well-crystalline and compact multilayer structure, high absorptivity of CuSbS2 and CdS, p-n junction formed between CdS and CuSbS2 which promotes the electron-hole separation and ZnO nanowire array as three dimensional scaffolds for electron percolation pathway. This work suggests the potential applications of low-cost p-n junction core-shell nanowire arrays as a highly efficient photoanode for hydrogen evolution in oil-field waste water with reductive sulfide. Abstract:In this paper,it is reported that Ni0.33 Co0.67 Se2 nanowire arrays on Ti mesh (Ni0.33 Co0.67 Se2 NW/TM) via selenization reaction behave as a robust integrated 3D hydrogen-evolving cathode in acid.In the experiment, the electrode exhibited a low onset overpotential of 1 10 mV and a small Tafel slope of 38 mV·dec -1 under the con-dition of overpotentials of 209 mV to attain current density of 100 mA·cm -2 ,and maintained catalytic activity for at least 12 h.

Abstract:A hierarchical CoNi-sulfide nanosheet array is fabricated via an in situ reduction of CoNi-layered double hydroxide (LDH) nanosheets, then a vulcanization process. The material inherits the morphology of the LDH precursor, consisting of well-distributed CoNi-alloy@CoNi-sulfide nanoparticles with a core-shell structure, and demonstrates promising performance toward hydrazine electrooxidation.
