Abstract: This is a sequel to [Xu18] on the $L$-packets of quasisplit general symplectic and even orthogonal groups. We show the existence of global $L$-packets and establish the functoriality of endoscopic transfer for them in many cases.

Abstract:Let $G \subseteq \tilde{G}$ be two quasisplit connected reductive groups over a local field of characteristic zero and $G_{der} = \tilde{G}_{der}$. Although the existence of L-packets is still conjectural in general, it is believed that the L-packets of $G$ should be the restriction of that of $\tilde{G}$. Motivated by this, we hope to construct the L-packets of $\tilde{G}$ from that of $G$. The primary example in our mind is when $G = Sp(2n)$, whose L-packets have been determined by Arthur (2013), and $\tilde{G} = GSp(2n)$. As a first step, we need to consider some well-known conjectural properties of L-packets. In this paper, we show how they can be deduced from the conjectural endoscopy theory. As an application, we obtain some structural information about L-packets of $\tilde{G}$ from that of $G$.

Abstract:We consider the split special orthogonal group $\mathrm{SO}_{N}$ defined over a $p$-adic field. We determine the structure of any $L$-packet of $\mathrm{SO}_{N}$ containing a simple supercuspidal representation (in the sense of Gross--Reeder). We also determine its endoscopic lift to a general linear group. Combined with the explicit local Langlands correspondence for simple supercuspidal representations of general linear groups, this leads us to get an explicit description of the $L$-parameter as a representation of the Weil group of $F$. Our result is new when $p=2$ and our method provides a new proof even when $p\neq2$.

Abstract:Zelevinsky's classification theory of discrete series of $p$-adic general linear groups has been well known. Mœglin and Tadic gave the same kind of theory for $p$-adic classical groups, which is more complicated due to the occurrence of nontrivial structure of L-packets. Nonetheless, their work is independent of the endoscopic classification theory of Arthur (also Mok in the unitary case), which concerns the structure of L-packets in these cases. So our goal in this paper is to make more explicit the connection between these two very different types of theories. To do so, we reprove the results of Mœglin and Tadic in the case of quasisplit symplectic groups and orthogonal groups by using Arthur's theory.

Abstract:In this paper, applying the intersection theory of local Arthur packets, for symplectic and split odd special orthogonal groups G_n, we give the first complete proof of the enhanced Shahidi conjecture on generic representations in local Arthur packets. We also classify unramified representations of Arthur type for G_n, and show that they lie in exactly one local Arthur packet, which is anti-generic. Then, we discuss the global applications of these results.

Abstract:We classify what we call ``typically almost symmetric'' depth zero supercuspidal representations of classical groups into L-packets. Our main results resolve an ambiguity in the paper of Lust-Stevens \cite{Lust-Stevens} in this case, where they could only classify these representations in two or four, if not one, L-packets. By assuming the expected numbers of supercuspidal representations in the L-packets, we employ only simple properties of the representations to prove the main results. In particular, we do not require any deep calculations of character values.

Abstract:Let G be the group of rational points of a quasi-split p-adic special orthogonal, symplectic or unitary group for some odd prime number p. FollowingArthur and Mok, there are a positive integer N, a p-adic field E and a local functorial transfer from isomorphism classes of irreducible smooth complex representations of G to those of GL(N,E). By fixing a prime number l different from p and an isomorphism between the field of complex numbers and an algebraic closure of the field of l-adic numbers, we obtain a transfer map between representations with l-adic coefficients. Now consider a cuspidal irreducible l-adic representation pi of G: we can define its reduction mod l, which is a semi-simple smooth representation of G of finite length, with coefficients in a field of characteristic l. Let pi' be a cuspidal irreducible l-adic representation of G whose reduction mod l is isomorphic to that of pi. We prove that the transfers of pi and pi' have reductions mod l which may not be isomorphic, but which have isomorphic supercuspidal supports. When G is not the split special orthogonal group SO(2), we further prove that the reductions mod l of the transfers of pi and pi' share a unique common generic component.

Abstract:We give a modern exposition of the construction, parameterization, and character relations for discrete series L-packets of real reductive groups, which are fundamental results due to Langlands and Shelstad. This exposition incorporates recent developments not present in the original sources, such as normalized geometric transfer factors and the canonical double covers of tori and endoscopic groups, allowing for simpler statements and proofs. We also prove some new results, such as a simple criterion for detecting generic representations for a prescribed Whittaker datum, and an explicit formula for the factor $\Delta_I$ in terms of covers of tori.

Abstract:Let F be a local field of characteristic not 2. We propose a definition of stable conjugacy for all the covering groups of $$\text {Sp}(2n,F)$$ constructed by Brylinski and Deligne, whose degree we denote by m. To support this notion, we follow Kaletha’s approach to construct genuine epipelagic L-packets for such covers in the non-archimedean case with $$p \not \mid 2m$$, or some weaker variant when $$4 \mid m$$; we also prove the stability of packets when $$F \supset \mathbb {Q}_p$$ with p large. When $$m=2$$, the stable conjugacy reduces to that defined by J. Adams, and the epipelagic L-packets coincide with those obtained by $$\Theta $$-correspondence. This fits within Weissman’s formalism of L-groups. For $$n=1$$ and m even, it is also compatible with the transfer factors proposed by K. Hiraga and T. Ikeda.

Abstract:Non-simply laced quivers, despite the lack of complete Lagrangian descriptions, play an important role in characterising moduli spaces of supersymmetric field theories. Notably, the moduli space of instantons in non-simply laced gauge groups can be understood by means of such quivers. We generalise the notion of non-simply laced unitary quivers to those whose edges carry two labels $(p,q)$, dubbed $(p,q)$-edged quivers. The special case of $(p,1)$ corresponds to a conventional non-simply laced edge studied in the literature. In the case of unframed $(p,q)$-edged quivers, we show how to parametrise the lattice of magnetic fluxes upon ungauging the decoupled $\mathrm{U}(1)$, and how one can pick sublattices thereof corresponding to different global forms of the quiver related by discrete gauging. This form of discrete gauging can be applied to any unframed unitary quivers, not just ones with generalised edges. We utilise both the Hilbert series and the superconformal index to study moduli spaces and 't Hooft anomalies. In particular, we study mixed 't Hooft anomalies between a one-form symmetry and a zero-form continuous topological symmetry in various $(p,q)$-edged quivers. We also provide an alternative realisation of the moduli space of $\mathfrak{so}(2n+1)$ instantons via gauging discrete symmetries in supersymmetric QCD with a symplectic gauge group and a large number of flavours.

Abstract:Let $n$ and $k$ be positive integers such that $n$ is even. We derive new global integrals for $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}\times\mathrm{GL}_k$ from the generalized doubling method of Cai, Friedberg, Ginzburg and Kaplan, following a strategy and extending a previous result of Ginzburg and Soudry on the case $n=k=2$. We show that these new integrals unfold to non-unique models on $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}$. Using the New Way method of Piatetski-Shapiro and Rallis, we show that these new global integrals represent the $L$-functions for $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}\times\mathrm{GL}_k$, generalizing a previous result of the second-named author on $\mathrm{Sp}_{4}\times\mathrm{GL}_2$ and a previous work of Piatetski-Shapiro and Rallis on $\mathrm{Sp}_{2n}\times\mathrm{GL}_1$.

Abstract:We develop a general procedure to study the combinatorial structure of Arthur packets for $p$-adic quasisplit $Sp(N)$ and $O(N)$ following the works of Mœglin. This allows us to answer many delicate questions concerning the Arthur packets of these groups, for example the size of the packets.

Abstract:Let $\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(2n)$ be the metaplectic covering of $\text{Sp}(2n)$ over a local field of characteristic zero. The core of the theory of endoscopy for $\widetilde{\text{Sp}}(2n)$ is the geometric transfer of orbital integrals to its elliptic endoscopic groups. The dual of this map, called the spectral transfer, is expected to yield endoscopic character relations which should reveal the internal structure of $L$-packets. As a first step, we characterize the image of the collective geometric transfer in the non-archimedean case, then reduce the spectral transfer to the case of cuspidal test functions by using a simple stable trace formula. In the archimedean case, we establish the character relations and determine the spectral transfer factors by rephrasing the works by Adams and Renard.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a uniform classification of the generic dual of quasi-split classical groups, their similitude counterparts, and general spin groups. As applications, for quasi-split classical groups, we show that the functorial lifting maps constructed by Cogdell, Kim, Piatetski-Shapiro and Shahidi are surjective. We also analyze structures of general local Langlands parameters and explicitly construct a distinguished element for each local L-packet.

Abstract:In this paper, for symplectic and split odd special orthogonal groups, we develop an account of theory on the intersection problem of local Arthur packets. Specifically, following Atobe's reformulation on Mœglin's construction of local Arthur packets, we give a complete set of operators on the construction data, based on which, we provide algorithms and Sage codes to determine whether a given representation is of Arthur type. Furthermore, for any representation $\pi$ of Arthur type, we give a precise formula for the set $$ \Psi(\pi)=\{ \text{local Arthur parameter }\psi \ | \ \text{the local Arthur packet } \Pi_{\psi} \text{ contains } \pi\}.$$
