Abstract:Series of Ca(La1−xEux)4Si3O13 red emitting phosphor were synthesized by solid-state reaction method. Photoluminescence excitation and emission spectra showed that the phosphors could be efficiently excited by near ultraviolet to blue light from 350 to 470nm to give bright red emission. There were four emission bands peaking at 591, 615, 655, and 700nm, due to the transition of the Eu3+ (5D0→7Fj (j=0, 1,2,3,4)), respectively. After using the 3.5% Li2CO3 as the flux, the sample's emission intensity increased obviously. White LED was obtained by combining blue LED chip (InGaN-based 460nm emitting) with Ca(La1−xEux)4Si3O13 and YAG:Ce3+. As the x has the value of 0.5, the InGaN-based Ca(La0.5Eu0.5)4Si3O13 WLED presented intense white emitting and good color rendering of over 89.

Abstract:With narrow red photoluminescence (PL) bands, tetravalent Mn4+ doped phosphors show promising prospect in commercial application to effectively expand color gamut of phosphor converted LED displays. Here, we report a type of Sr-2-Mg-z(1)+yYzAl22-O-x(36):xMn(4+) phosphors with regular cage-like micro spherical morphologies. The micron size spherical precursors were synthesized with a propylene oxide (PO) driven fast sol-gel method. The cage-like spherical morphology is beneficial to efficiently trapping much incident light to enhance the PL of the phosphors. Being calcined at 1300 & nbsp;?, Sr2MgAl21.978O36:0.022Mn(4+) only exhibits the internal quantum efficiency (IQE) of 24.91%. With the Mg2+-Mn4+ codoping and Y3+/Sr2+ substituting strategies, to fulfill charge balance and produce John Teller distortion, IQE of Sr-2-Mg-z(1)+yYzAl22-O-x(36):xMn(4+) can be further improved up to 36.45%. The CIE color coordinates of Sr-2-Mg-z(1)+yYzAl22-O-x(36):xMn(4+) under near ultraviolet excitation can be stably fixed to (0.723, 0.227) at deep red region. It thus finds a potential application as pc-LED display with much broader color gamut than that of the NTSC standard. Therefore, Sr-2-Mg-z(1)+yYzAl22-O-x(36):xMn(4+) micron size spheres can be employed as promising red phosphors for high performance LED displays.(c) 2021 Published by Elsevier B.V. on behalf of Chinese Society of Rare Earths.

Abstract:A novel high efficiency red emitting Sr2MgAl22O36:Mn4+ phosphor is synthesized by solid-state reaction method. The optimized red emitting Sr2MgAl22O36:Mn4+ phosphor exhibits high quantum efficiency (QE) of similar to 80%, fluorescence lifetime of similar to 1.25 ms and the Commission International de I'Eclairage (CIE) chromaticity coordinates (0.72, 0.27). The Sr2MgAl22O36:Mn4+ phosphor shows excitation bands at similar to 400 and 470 nm which matches well with working wavelength of existed LED chips can be used as excitation source to generate white emission. Abstract:Red phosphor is indispensable to achieve warm white light in the white light diode (WLED) application. However, the current red phosphors suffer from high cost and harsh synthesis conditions. In this study, an oxide-based rare-earth-free red-emitting phosphor Li3Mg2NbO6:Mn4+ (LMN:Mn4+) has been successfully synthesized by a simple solid-state reaction method. The relationship between crystal structure and luminescence was investigated in detail. The site occupancy of the doping Mn4+ ion in the LMN host has been discussed from the point of bond valence sum. How the coordination environment of doping Mn4+ affects the energy level of doping Mn4+ ion has been illustrated via the Tanabe-Sugano energy-level diagram. Moreover, warm white light has been obtained using LMN:Mn4+ as compensator to the YAG:Ce3+.

Effective deep-red light peaking at 709 nm was observed when the phosphors were excited by near-ultraviolet (NUV) light. Based on the optimized concentration of Mn(4+)in LMN, Bi(3+)was selected as the sensitizer to further enhance the luminescence properties. Furthermore, the high thermal stability of the optimized co-doped phosphor was confirmed by thermal luminescence spectra compared to reported phosphors with similar structures. Finally, LED devices were fabricated based on commercial blue and green phosphors with NUV chips, and the results showed a high color rendering index (CRI,R-a= 85.5). All the performances imply great commercial potential as a deep-red phosphor for WLED applications.

Abstract:The synthesis and component of red phosphor, Sr4Al14O25:Mn, were optimized for application in white light-emitting diodes. The microstructure and morphology were investigated by the X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Different valences of Mn ions in Sr4Al14O25 were discriminated using the electron paramagnetic resonance and X-ray absorption near-edge structure spectroscopy techniques. The bond-valence theory was used to analyze the effective valences of Sr2+ and Al3+ in Sr4Al14O25. As a result, the strong covalence of Al3+ in the AlO4 tetrahedron other than in the AlO6 octahedron is disclosed. The deep red emission is attributed to Mn4+ occupying the center of AlO6 octahedron. The mechanism of energy transfer is mainly through dipole-dipole interaction, revealed by the analyses of critical distance and concentration quench. A high color rendering white LED prototype with color-rendering index up to Ra 93.23 packaged by using the red phosphor demonstrates its applicability. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Abstract:A series of white-light-emitting NaSrPO4:Eu2+, Mn2+ phosphors were successfully synthesized by solid-state reaction and their photoluminescence properties were investigated. The NaSrPO4:Eu2+, Mn2+ phosphor system exhibits a broad excitation band in the wavelength range of 250–420nm, which is well-matched with ultraviolet (UV) light-emitting-diode (LED) chips (typically 365nm). As a result of fine-tuning of the emission composition of the Eu2+ and Mn2+ ions, warm-white-light emission can be realized in a single host lattice under 365nm excitation. Efficient resonant energy transfer from the Eu2+ to Mn2+ ions has been observed. The energy transfer efficiency and critical distance were calculated. The results indicate that the developed phosphor can be used as a potential candidate for white LEDs.

Abstract:AbstractA novel Mn4+‐doped strontium lanthanum gallate red phosphor SrLaGaO4:Mn4+ has been successfully prepared via the conventional solid‐state reaction method. Phase purity, photoluminescence excitation/emission spectra, concentration quenching, decay curves, and temperature‐dependent photoluminescence have been investigated systematically. SrLaGaO4:Mn4+ phosphor exhibits broad excitation band from 250 to 600 nm and emits intense red light centered at 716 nm arising from spin‐forbidden transition, 2E → 4A2 of Mn4+. The optimal dopant concentration of Mn4+ is determined to be 0.2 mol%. Dipole‐dipole interaction is supposed to be the mechanism of concentration quenching. The crystal‐field strength Dq, the Racah parameters B and C, and the nephelauxetic ratio β1 of SrLaGaO4:Mn4+ have been calculated according to its luminescent spectra. Our systematic investigation on this new phosphor can provide a reference for the development of red‐emitting phosphor.

Abstract:A novel far-red emitting phosphor Na0.2La0.2Sr1.6MgWO6: Mn4+ can be fabricated by high-temperature solidstate reaction. Photoluminescence excitation and photoluminescence spectra of this phosphor were analyzed in detail. Effective far-red light peaking at 691 nm was observed when the phosphors were excited by 350 nm or 467 nm. By using a [Na+-La3+] unit substituting [Sr2+-Sr2+] unit partially, the far-red emission intensity of Sr2MgWO6:0.006Mn4+ can be improved about 60.5 times. Moreover, it exhibited a high thermal stability; the value of I373K/I298K was approximately 46.59% of that at room temperature. Finally, there are a broad spectral overlap between the emission band of Na0.2La0.2Sr1.6MgWO6: Mn4+ phosphors and the absorption band of phytochrome PFR under near-ultraviolet light spectrum. Therefore, the obtained phosphors Na0.2La0.2Sr1.6MgWO6: Mn4+ have potential to be a new type far-red luminescent powder for indoor plant growth LEDs.

Abstract:Non-rare earth doped oxide phosphors with far-red emission have become one of the hot spots of current research due to their low price and excellent physicochemical stability as the red component in white light-emitting diodes (W-LEDs) and plant growth. Herein, we report novel Mn4+-doped La2CaSnO6 and La2MgSnO6 phosphors by high-temperature solid-phase synthesis and analyzed their crystal structures by XRD and Rietveld refinement. Their excitation spectra consist of two distinct excitation bands with the dominant excitation range from 250 to 450 nm, indicating that they possess strong absorption of near-ultraviolet light. Their emission is located around 693 and 708 nm, respectively, and can be absorbed by the photosensitive pigments Pr and Pfr, proving their great potential for plant growth. Finally, the prepared samples were coated with 365 nm UV chips to fabricate far-red LEDs and W-LEDs with low correlation color temperature (CCT = 4958 K/5275 K) and high color rendering index (Ra = 96.4/96.6). Our results indicate that La2CaSnO6:Mn4+ and La2MgSnO6:Mn4+ red phosphors could be used as candidate materials for W-LED lighting and plant growth.

Abstract:A new red phosphor of strontium aluminate activated by Mn4+ was developed for high color rendering and warm white light-emitting diodes. The phosphor composition and conditions for synthesis were optimized through solid-state reaction. Meanwhile, the structure and morphology were investigated with XRD and SEM analysis. The results show that the 3SrO•5Al2O3 activated by 0.0005 M Mn fired at 1300°C in air ambient by adopting 2.5 wt.% AlF3 as flux exhibits most efficient luminescence. A white LED device prototype with CIE (0.3291, 0.3571), CCT 5639 K, CRI Ra 92.6, and efficacy 63 lm/W driven at 20 mA has been packaged by pre-coating the red phosphor combined with a yellow one Y3Al5O12:Ce3+ on a blue InGaN chip. The analysis of critical distance and luminescence quench reveal that the mechanism of energy transfer for luminescence is through dipole–dipole interaction.

Abstract:Red light component for white light emitting diodes (WLEDs) keeps attracting the researchers' attention to obtain high color rendering index (CRI). Here, Eu3+ and Mn4+ co-doped BaLaMgNbO6 double perovskite red phosphors were acquired by solid-state reaction method. Both the red emission of Eu3+ and deep-red emission of Mn4+ could be realized under the excitation of near ultraviolet light. The concentrations of Eu3+ and Mn4+ in BaLaMgNbO6 were optimized to be 30.0 mol% and 0.1 mol%, respectively. Temperature dependent emission of Eu3+ and Mn4+ were carried out to reveal the thermal stability of this red phosphor. Optimized BaLa0.7Eu0.3MgNb0.999Mn0.001O6 was mixed with commercial blue and green phosphors to obtain WLEDs. The CRI of the fabricated device reaches 90.2, confirming this red phosphor an excellent candidate as red light compensation for WLEDs.

Abstract:Red-emitting SrMgAlxO17±δ:yMn(4+) composite phosphors (x=10-100; y=0.05-4.0 mol%) are synthesized by solid-state reaction method in air. Addition of Al2O3 leads to the formation of two concomitant phases, i.e., SrMgAl10O17 and Al2O3 phases in the composite phosphor. Red emission from Mn(4+) ions in the composite phosphors is greatly enhanced due to multiple scattering and absorption of excitation light between SrMgAl10O17 and Al2O3 phases. SrMgAlxO17±δ:yMn(4+) composite phosphors would be a promising candidate as red phosphor in the application of a 397 nm near UV-based W-LED.

Abstract:LaSrRO4:Mn4+ (R = Al and Ga) are prepared by the high-temperature solid-phase method in air. Their luminescence properties, crystal structure, concentration dependent spectra, time-resolved spectra, fluorescence lifetime, and luminous mechanism are systematically researched, respectively. Mn4+ ion is the luminescence center of LaSrRO4:Mn4+ (R = Al and Ga). The excitation spectra of LaSrRO4:Mn4+ (R = Al and Ga) under monitored at 715 nm lie in the range 210 – 650 nm with two main excitation peaks at ∼360 nm and 520 nm. With the excitation at 360 and 520 nm, LaSrRO4:Mn4+ (R = Al and Ga) emit far-red light and have the emission spectra covering the region from 650 to 800 nm due to the 2Eg → 4A2g transition of Mn4+ ions. The ideal Mn4+ concentration in LaSrAlO4:Mn4+ and LaSrGaO4:Mn4+ are ∼ 0.4 mol% and 0.6 mol%, respectively. The spectral properties of samples verify the crystal field s via the Tanabe-Sugano energy level diagram of Mn4+ ion. LaSrRO4:Mn4+ (R = Al and Ga) have the emission spectra match with the absorption spectra of the plant photosensitive pigments red light and far-red light, which infers their promising application in plant growth light-emitting diode (LED) lamp

Abstract:In this work, a novel whitlockite-structure red-emitting phosphor host, Sr9(Mg0.5Mn0.5)K(PO4)7, is designed and successfully synthesized via a solid-state reaction. Upon X-ray diffractometer Rietveld refinement, it is revealed that this compound possesses compact Eu2+-Mn2+ distance (3.6809 Å) and large intra-Mn2+ distance (8.9905 Å), which is beneficial to the high-efficient Eu2+-Mn2+ energy transfer. By Eu2+ sensitization, our new phosphor exhibits a high-saturated and bright red Mn2+ emission at 620 nm with high color purity of 97.9%. Great emission enhancement up to 245 times than host is achieved by La3+ heterovalent substitution, which can be ascribed to the La3+-induced further structural confinement effect. Moreover, the quantum efficiency is boosted by twofold. The as-fabricated white phosphor-converted LEDs device shows bright warm white light with correlated color temperature (CCT) of 3,487 K, color-rendering index (CRI) of 92.4, and luminous efficacy of 31.59 lm/W. This work proves the feasibility of chemical unit co-substitution strategy in emission engineering of Mn2+-based phosphors, which can stimulate further studies on the red-emitting phosphor materials.

Abstract:Mn4+ doped oxides red phosphors have great potential for white-light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) and plant growth light. Herein, deep red phosphors Ba2LuNbO6:xMn4+ with perovskite structure were synthesized by solid state method in air atmosphere. The crystal structure, morphology, composition and optical properties of Ba2LuNbO6: Mn4+ phosphors were systematically studied by X-ray diffraction, Rietveld refinement, SEM and EDS and pho-toluminescence spectra. Under excitation by 380 nm NUV light, the phosphor emitted bright red light around 670 nm and far-red light around 697 nm owing to the spin-forbidden 2Eg -> 4A2 g transition of Mn4+ ions. Temperature-dependent photoluminescence spectra confirmed the high thermal stability of Mn4+-activated Ba2LuNbO6 phosphors. The fluorescence intensity maintained about half of the initial intensity at 400 K, and the thermal quenching was due to the increase of non-radiative transitions at high temperature. Finally, LED devices were fabricated using 365 nm NUV chips with commercial blue, green phosphors and Ba2LuNbO6:Mn4+ red phosphors for the use of outdoor lighting, which had color rendering index (CRI) of 84.4 and color temperature (CCT) of 5710 K. The results indicate that Ba2LuNbO6:Mn4+ phosphors have great potential as a deep red phosphor in the field of WLEDs and plant growth light.

Abstract:A new red phosphor, Ba(2)Mg(BO(3))(2):Eu,Mn, was synthesized by the solid-state reaction method and its photoluminescence properties were investigated by excitation and emission spectra and decay curves. Its excitation band is extending from 250-450 nm, which is adaptable to the emission band of near-ultraviolet LED chips (350-420 nm). Upon the excitation of 365 nm light, the phosphor exhibits strong red emission centered at 615 nm. The relationship between Eu(2+) and Mn(2+) dopants was studied from the viewpoint of a crystal structure and by photoluminescence spectra and decay curves. The results show that the characteristic Eu(2+) emission predominate in the emission band and Mn(2+) promote the redistribution of Eu(2+) at the cation sites of the host crystal.

Abstract:Red-emitting SrMgAlxO17 +/-delta:yMn(4+) composite phosphors (x = 10-100; y = 0.05-4.0 mol%) are synthesized by solid-state reaction method in air. Addition of Al2O3 leads to the formation of two concomitant phases, i.e., SrMgAl10O17 and Al2O3 phases in the composite phosphor. Red emission from Mn4+ ions in the composite phosphors is greatly enhanced due to multiple scattering and absorption of excitation light between SrMgAl10O17 and Al2O3 phases. SrMgAlxO17 +/-delta:yMn(4+) composite phosphors would be a promising candidate as red phosphor in the application of a 397 nm near UV-based W-LED. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
