Abstract:A new generalized optimum strapdown algorithm with coning and sculling compensation is presented, in which the position, velocity and attitude updating operations are carried out based on the single-speed structure in which all computations are executed at a single updating rate that is sufficiently high to accurately account for high frequency angular rate and acceleration rectification effects. Different from existing algorithms, the updating rates of the coning and sculling compensations are unrelated with the number of the gyro incremental angle samples and the number of the accelerometer incremental velocity samples. When the output sampling rate of inertial sensors remains constant, this algorithm allows increasing the updating rate of the coning and sculling compensation, yet with more numbers of gyro incremental angle and accelerometer incremental velocity in order to improve the accuracy of system. Then, in order to implement the new strapdown algorithm in a single FPGA chip, the parallelization of the algorithm is designed and its computational complexity is analyzed. The performance of the proposed parallel strapdown algorithm is tested on the Xilinx ISE 12.3 software platform and the FPGA device XC6VLX550T hardware platform on the basis of some fighter data. It is shown that this parallel strapdown algorithm on the FPGA platform can greatly decrease the execution time of algorithm to meet the real-time and high precision requirements of system on the high dynamic environment, relative to the existing implemented on the DSP platform.

Abstract:A parallel navigation computation algorithm with a single update frequency was proposed and analyzed to increase the navigation computation updating rate in high dynamic conditions.The parallel algorithm includes 4 parallel computation modules: the parallel attitude computation module,the parallel velocity computation module,the parallel position computation module,and the parallel parameter computation module.The computation speed analysis shows that the total implement periods of the parallel algorithm are about 6% of conventional algorithms.The results of FPGA-based experiment show that the design significantly increases the updating rate of the navigation computation,thus greatly benefiting the navigation accuracy in high dynamic conditions.

Abstract:The task of strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) initial alignment is to calculate the attitude transformation matrix from body frame to navigation frame. In this paper, such attitude transformation matrix is divided into two parts through introducing the initial inertially fixed navigation frame as inertial frame. The attitude changes of the navigation frame corresponding to the defined inertial frame can be exactly calculated with known velocity and position provided by GNSS. The attitude from body frame to the defined inertial frame is estimated based on the SINS mechanization in inertial frame. The attitude, velocity and position in inertial frame are formulated together as element of the group of double direct spatial isometries (). It is proven that the group state model in inertial frame satisfies a particular "group affine" property and the corresponding error model satisfies a "log-linear" autonomous differential equation on the Lie algebra. Based on such striking property, the attitude from body frame to the defined inertial frame can be estimated based on the linear error model with even extreme large misalignments. Two different error state vectors are extracted based on right and left matrix multiplications and the detailed linear state-space models are derived based on the right and left errors for SINS mechanization in inertial frame. With the derived linear state-space models, the explicit initial alignment procedures have been presented. Extensive simulation and field tests indicate that the initial alignment based on the left error model can perform quite well within a wide range of initial attitude errors, although the used filter is still a type of linear Kalman filter. This method is promising in practical products abandoning the traditional coarse alignment stage.

A Closed-form Solution for the Strapdown Inertial Navigation Initial Value Problem

Abstract:Strapdown inertial navigation systems (SINS) are ubiquitious in robotics and engineering since they can estimate a rigid body pose using onboard kinematic measurements without knowledge of the dynamics of the vehicle to which they are attached. While recent work has focused on the closed-form evolution of the estimation error for SINS, which is critical for Kalman filtering, the propagation of the kinematics has received less attention. Runge-Kutta integration approaches have been widely used to solve the initial value problem; however, we show that leveraging the special structure of the SINS problem and viewing it as a mixed-invariant vector field on a Lie group, yields a closed form solution. Our closed form solution is exact given fixed gyroscope and accelerometer measurements over a sampling period, and it is utilizes 12 times less floating point operations compared to a single integration step of a 4th order Runge-Kutta integrator. We believe the wide applicability of this work and the efficiency and accuracy gains warrant general adoption of this algorithm for SINS.

Abstract:The structure of micro-inertial navigation unit(MINU) was designed.Mathematical models of rolling method and rotating platform method were set up separately to calibrate zero bias,scale factor and installation angle error of accelerators and gyroscopes.An on-field optimal calibration method based on fictitious noise was presented.Kalman filter was used to estimate and compensate zero bias of accelerators and gyroscopes.The results of static and vehicle tests show the validity and feasibility of the above methods.The calibration methods are characterized by celerity and easy to implement,and could improve navigation accuracy.They are suitable for short-time,low or middle precision navigation system.

Abstract:To solve the problem of constant drift divergence in strapdown inertial navigation system, a self-compensation method using missile rotation modulation is proposed. The constant drift of gyroscope and accelerometer can be modulated into periodic signal by spin modulation of missile body without special rotating mechanism. The influence of constant drift can be effectively eliminated by integral operation. The simulation results show that the method can effectively suppress the error growth, improve the navigation accuracy of SINS.

Abstract:The invariant error model in the inertial frame is investigated for Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (SINS)/Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) integrated navigation, which is no longer limited by small misalignment angle and linear approximation error like traditional SINS/GNSS integrated model, so initial alignment and integrated navigation could be combined into one stage, and the navigation solution is more accurate and faster. At first, the matrix Lie group-based navigation state is defined in an inertial frame and proved to satisfy group affine without introducing an auxiliary velocity like the Lie group state defined in other frames. Then both the left and right invariant error state models are derived in inertial frames respectively corresponding to the group affine model. On this basis, the left and right invariant measurement models for SINS/GNSS are also derived respectively. Finally, the simulation and a boat-mounted field test are conducted to evaluate the actual performance of the investigated models. The results show that the proposed left invariant error model performs better for SINS/GNSS than the right invariant error model and also outperforms other existing SINS/GNSS integration models. Especially, compared with the current advanced invariant error model defined in the earth frame, the model we investigated is more concise, efficient, and accurate.

Abstract:Adapting the CZ series Launch Vehicle as research object, and focusing on the mathematical model of navigation calculating subsystem of Launch Vehicle, the simulation model of the subsystem was established in MATLAB/Simulink. The subsystem was divided into a series of independent functional units, such as earth gravity acceleration calculating unit, velocity calculating unit, displacement calculating unit, etc.. The sub simulation models of these units were built in Matlab/Simulink. The model of navigation calculating subsystem of Launch Vehicle was acquired by means of integration. Comparing with the real sampling data, the results show that the model is sound and the method is valid.

Abstract:A fast initial alignment method for SINS is proposed which combines Extended States Observers(ESO) with Kalman filters. The method makes initial alignment more quickly than before and possesses such characters as high accurate and robust, etc. The simulation results demonstrate that it is an effective initial alignment scheme in inertial navigation system.

Abstract:Along with the development of computer technology and informatization, the unmanned vehicle has become an important equipment in military, civil and some other fields. The navigation system is the basis and core of realizing the autonomous control and completing the task for unmanned vehicles, and the Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (SINS) is the preferred due to its autonomy and independence. The initial alignment technique is the premise and the foundation of the SINS, whose performance is susceptible to system nonlinearity and uncertainty. To improving system performance for SINS, an improved initial alignment algorithm is proposed in this manuscript. In the procedure of this presented initial alignment algorithm, the original signal of inertial sensors is denoised by utilizing the improved signal denoising method based on the Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD) and the Extreme Learning Machine (ELM) firstly to suppress the high-frequency noise on coarse alignment. Afterwards, the accuracy and reliability of initial alignment is further enhanced by utilizing an improved Robust Huber Cubarure Kalman Filer (RHCKF) method to minimize the influence of system nonlinearity and uncertainty on the fine alignment. In addition, real tests are used to verify the availability and superiority of this proposed initial alignment algorithm.

A New Systematic Calibration Method for SINS

Abstract:A new systematic calibration method is proposed based on the strapdown inertial navigation equation. The disadvantage of static position systematic calibration and the traditional rotate-hold systematic calibration is analyzed. Combined the advantages of both the two method, a systematic calibration method of "position + rotate-hold" is designed. The method simplifies the calibration process by data multiplexing and combined the two experiments into a common experimental procedure. The reliability of the method is verified by the calibration simulation. The method is simple and feasible, and can be applied to the outfield calibration of the SINS.

Abstract:The self-alignment of strapdown inertial navigation system that does not depend on any external aid still has huge application requirements. This study presents an anti-swaying self-alignment method based on the inertia tensor of gravity observation vectors and aims to improve the accuracy and efficiency of the latitude and attitude estimation by making full use of inertial measurements. The time-varying attitude matrix is decomposed first to isolate the swaying interference and gravity observation vectors are reconstructed to smooth the measurement noise. Then the body attitude estimation with unknown latitude is defined as an extended Wahba problem, which is solved by eigenvalue decomposition based on the inertia tensor of gravity observation vectors. Simulation and experiments verify the effectiveness of the proposed method and two common methods are used for comparison, which show that the proposed method has faster convergence speed, stronger anti-interference ability, and higher accuracy of the latitude and attitude estimation.

Abstract:The GNSS/INS (Global Navigation Satellite System/Inertial Navigation System) navigation system has been widely discussed in recent years. Because of the unique INS-aided loop structure, the deeply coupled system performs very well in highly dynamic environments. In practice, vehicle maneuvering has a big influence on the performance of IMUs (Inertial Measurement Unit), and determining whether the selected IMUs and receiver parameters satisfy the loop dynamic requirement is still a critical problem for deeply coupled systems. Aiming at this, a new parameter self-calibration method based on the norm principle is proposed which explains the relationship between IMU precision and the velocity error of the system; the method will also provide a detailed solution to calculate the loop steady-state tracking error, so it will eventually make a judgment about the stability of the tracking loop under present system parameter settings. Lastly, a full digital simulation platform is set up, and the results of simulations show good agreement with the proposed method.

Abstract:With the rapid development of aviation technology and intelligent technology, various new unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and underwater unmanned aerial vehicles (UUV) have been launched one after another, showing a broad application prospect. Cross-Media Vehicle (CMV) has gradually become an important research hotspot for researchers all over the world because of its combination of UAV 's air maneuverability and UUV's underwater operation ability. Accurately obtaining the current navigation parameters such as attitude, speed and position of CMV is the premise of carrying out various tasks. The air and water environment can still receive GPS and BDS signals, and can be combined with strapdown inertial navigation system (SINS) for integrated navigation. When GPS and BDS signals are out of lock, they can still maintain high navigation accuracy in a short time. In the long-term underwater working environment, GPS and BDS signals cannot be transmitted, and other navigation methods are needed. Based on the strapdown inertial navigation system, this paper uses the measured data of the sports car to study and compare the pure inertial navigation, GPS / SINS integrated navigation, and BP neural network assisted GPS / SINS integrated navigation. The results show that: 1) pure inertial navigation has high accuracy in a short time, and its error will accumulate over time; 2) GPS / SINS integrated navigation has high precision and can be used in air and water environment. 3) BP neural network assisted GPS / SINS integrated navigation is suitable for underwater long-term navigation and positioning, and its accuracy is much higher than that of pure inertial navigation.

Abstract:This paper analyzes the causes and effects of error in the Strapdown Micro-Electro-Mechanical System Inertial Measurement Unit (MEMS-IMU), utilizing a sensor calibration method based on a two-axis turntable. By considering deterministic errors such as sensor bias, scale factor, and non-orthogonality of the sensitive axis, an error model was established to assess their impact on measurement accuracy. An expression was provided to represent the relationship between sensor data collection and external input stimuli, storing the error parameters of the accelerometer and the gyroscope separately in parameter matrices. The error parameter matrix between input and output quantities was fitted using the least squares method, and error compensation was completed in conjunction with the error model. By comparing the original data with the error-compensated data, the calibration results were obtained. This improved the consistency of the measurements from the sensitive axes to the stimulus source, reduced the zero bias error of each sensitive axis, and enhanced the positioning accuracy of the Strapdown MEMS-IMU.
Observer Based Controller Design For Strapdown Inertial Navigation System

Abstract:In this paper, some important problems of Strapdown Inertial Navigation System (SINS) are formulated as observer based controller (OBC) design problems. The large azimuth angle error problem in alignment and integrated navigation can be easily solved by this method. The nonlinear dynamics of SINS error state are stabilized by OBC. Sufficient conditions for the Lyapunov stability of the augmented system are given and verified. A universal framework for the design of SINS error damping algorithm is proposed. First, use the Kalman filter as an observer in OBC to stabilize the system. Then, design an OBC with segmented gain to improve the performance of the system. Experiment results of several applications, such as initial alignment of navigation grade SINS and low cost MEMS INS/GPS integration, are given to verify the efficiency of our methodology.
Study on Comprehensive Simulation Technology for Seabed Terrain-Aided Navigation

Abstract:In this paper, the pure software simulation for the seabed terrain aided navigation system (STAN) is presented. The authors emphases is to study on the system architecture and main simulation object based on the system requirement, to construct the mathematic model for each simulation object, such as the underwater vehicle, strap-down inertial navigation system, echo sounder, circular error probability, electronic chart and track planning. The simulation models for them are realized by using the VC++ language and the several matching algorithms runs on it. All result shows that the design is accurate, the maintenance and expansibility is easy. So, the principle and function of the STAN has been validated, the theoretical principle for STAN engineering development and practicability is provided in a way.
Inertial Navigation Algorithm Aided by Motion Constraints of Vehicle

Abstract:In order to improve the independent navigation accuracy of vehicular SINS and enhance the mobility of the car, the integrated navigation method aided by the motion constraints of the vehicle was adopted. By making use of the condition that the cross-track and vertical velocity of the normal running vehicle were zero, and taking the installation errors of SINS into consideration, the Kalman filter algorithm was deduced, the vehicular navigation experiment for about 80 km was implemented. The results show that the level positioning precision was 16.6 m(CEP) and the altitude precision was 14.9 m (PE). This method can be used as a backup navigation strategy to be used when the odometer was invalidated, and can also be used to extend the interval time of stopping car in ZUPT(zero-velocity update) mode.
Analysis Method of Strapdown Inertial Navigation Error Distribution Based on Covariance Matrix Decomposition

Abstract:Error distribution analysis is an important assistant technology for the research of SINS(Strapdown Inertial Navigation System). Error distribution result can provide the contribution of different errors to final navigation error, which is helpful for modifying and optimizing SINS. To realize decomposing the navigation error into parts that caused by each error source, the SINS error state space model is established and covariance matrix is decomposed according to error sources. The proposed error distribution analysis method based on 34-dimension SINS error model can quantitatively analyze the contribution to the end navigation error of initial errors, IMU(Inertial Measurement Unit) bias, IMU scale factor errors, mounting errors of gyroscopes and accelerometers, and IMU stochastic errors. The simulations in static condition and single axis rotation condition indict that the distribution result of proposed analysis method accords with the law of error propagation. After trajectory determined, the corresponding error distribution result will be calculated with the proposed method. Compared with the Monte-Carlo method and other method based on covariance matrix, the proposed method uses more complete error model, considers the interaction effect of error sources and can be easily realized with less computation.

Abstract:<p>In recent years, the research regarding Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) / MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical System)-Inertial Navigation System(INS) Deep Integrated (DI) navigation has aroused widespread concern. The DI navigation method can significantly improve the dynamic performance and anti-interference ability of the GNSS receiver in scenarios such as high dynamics and weak signals. On the one hand, the estimated parameters of the GNSS/MEMS-INS integrated navigation filter can be adopted to improve the shortcomings of INS system error divergence over time. On the other hand, the MEMS-INS enhances tracking sensitivity and accuracy by compressing bandwidth to assist the GNSS receiver tracking loop. In this paper, we present the open source matlab code of the GNSS/MEMS-INS DI method. It provides a basic framework to facilitate researchers and scientists to investigate its pros and cons in a variety of complex scenarios. In order to achieve this goal, the implementation details of the developed algorithm are described, which is conducive to the rapid implementation and evaluation of the users' new algorithm related to DI. Finally, the experiment was carried out to show the usage and performance of the provided code in a high dynamic scene.</p>
