Abstract:IP address autoconfiguration of mobile nodes is highly desirable in the practical usage of most mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). This paper proposes cluster-based autoconfiguration, a novel approach for the efficient address autoconfiguration of MANETs. The cluster structure derived from clustering techniques is used to manage address assignment and conflict resolution. By introducing the concept of virtual address agents (AAs), the proposed approach can be applicable to many existing clustering protocols. Finally, analysis and simulation demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the previous autoconfiguration approaches.

Abstract:In Ad Hoc networks, there exist two fundamental characteristics: Multi-Hop wireless-based transmission and node mobility. The former results in different contention relationship among flows from that in wireline networks, and the latter leads to the time-varying network situations. Firstly, on the basis of the link's interference set depicting the characteristics of the contention relationship, the congestion control problem for small time interval is formulated as a nonlinear optimization problem. Secondly, by using the dual decomposition theory, a price cooperation approach (PCA) is proposed to solve this optimization problem. In PCA, a price framework based on the link's interference set is built. Meanwhile, to implement PCA in realistic ad hoc environment, three deployment techniques are proposed: Queue Size Monitoring, Neighbor Set Approximation, and HELLO-based Message Piggybacking. Otherwise, the network status detection and receding optimization is introduced to deal with the uncertain changes of network situations, and an adaptive optimization strategy (AOS) is proposed correspondingly. The simulation results in MATLAB environment show that AOS has better performance of adaptation to time-varying network situations than PCA. The simulation result in NS2 environment show that PCA and PCA+AOS significantly outperform TCP, ATCP, and ATP in many important performances, including throughput, packet drop ratio, and fairness, under a variety of scenarios and mobility models.

Abstract:IP autoconfiguration of the mobile node addresses is important in the practical usage of most mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). This paper proposes domain-based autoconfiguration framework (DACF), a novel approach for the efficient address autoconfiguration of MANETs. To construct a hierarchy of addresses, this framework defines a loose domain structure where nodes in the same domain may roam to different locations after they are configured. This framework uses the passive Duplicate Address Detection(PDAD) but the proposed domain structure is able to reduce the initial conflict probability and accelerate the conflict resolution significantly. To evaluate the correctness and efficiency of the proposed framework, we also present an exemplified full-functioned implementation of the proposed framework. Through the detailed analysis and simulation, we believe the proposed scheme provides a promising autoconfiguration framework for large-scale MANETs. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:With the development of wireless network, more and more cities have deployed or have planned to deploy wireless city network based on WLAN technology. Since low-cost WiFi-enabled sensor nodes had been launched, much more value-added service based on sensors can be created in the wireless city network. Wireless Intelligent Service Highway is proposed to break the border of independent fixed access network with the new open access service model to embrace wireless access services and enormous sensor services. In this paper, we present the WISH solution and introduce Sensor Management Module (SMM) in Access Node (AN) of fixed network which acts as convergence point between fixed and wireless sensor technologies. The auto-configuration mechanism for sensor nodes is proposed to help SMM to manage the resource of sensor nodes and distribute the tasks to available sensor node.

Abstract:The autoconfiguration algorithm of the mobile node addresses is important in the practical usage of most mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). The passive Duplicate Address Detection (PDAD) protocols can detect address conflicts in a passive manner and thus have very low protocol overhead. However, the blindly random assignment algorithm used in PDAD leads to a high initial conflict probability. In this paper, we propose a novel concept of address agent, based on which arises a novel autoconfiguration approach, to obtain the least address conflict probability. Most features of PDAD are inherited, e.g., address conflicts are still detected in a passive manner based on anomalies in routing protocol traffic. Analysis and simulation show that our algorithm outperforms existing methods.

Abstract:The IEEE 802.11 wireless media access standard has multi-rate capability in physical layer. These different rates are possible through choosing different modulation schemes. The choice of modulation scheme depends on the current quality of the transmission channel. Present wireless devices often support multiple modulation schemes. However, there are relatively few auto-rate adaptation scheme proposed for wireless Ad Hoc networks to utilize this capability. In this paper we present an auto-rate adaptation scheme called the Sender-Based Auto-Rate (SBAR) scheme. The novelty of SBAR is that SBAR not only possesses efficient channel quality estimation similar to RBAR, but also doesn't introduce other protocol overhead on the basis of IEEE 802.11. Its rate adaptation is in the sender so that SBAR can be applied to existing equipments without modification to the frame formats in IEEE 802.11. The simulation results of SBAR show that SBAR performs consistently well.

Abstract:Allowing truly spontaneous and infrastructureless networking, mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are the future of wireless networks. However, most autoconfiguration proposals for MANETs lack privacy support, namely anonymity or pseudonymity and unlinkability aspects, which has become important considerations in many practical applications. This paper presents a novel privacy extension approach (PEA) for MANETs, which prevents eavesdroppers from identifying a particular mobile node by its address. In addition to privacy concerns, our scheme also brings some performance benefits, e.g., reducing the possibility of address conflict when the merging of separately configured networks occurs.

The new mechanism makes some adoptions to traditional DHCP in INTERNET to fulfill the demand of wireless intelligent home network. The details of the mechanism are demonstrated as well as the specific steps to carry out this mechanism on hardware platforms using a multiple pipe wireless chip, nRF24L01. Abstract:Ad-Hoc network is one of the hotspots in wireless network research field.Efficient service discovery plays an important role in such a network due to its dynamic topology,absence of centralised administration and resource-constrained nodes.In this paper,according to the cross-layer design thinking,we propose a new method that integrates service discovery information into route protocol to decrease redundant control packet and increase the efficiency of service discovery.We have validated that the method is efficient through the simulation experiments.

Abstract:Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANET) are the foundation of Intelligent Traffic System (ITS), and recently many MAC protocols for VANET are proposed, among which a reliable MAC protocol called ADHOC has aroused much attention. By investigating the details of ADHOC protocol, we have discovered several unsolved problems that might lead to network failure. In this paper, we provide a quantitative analysis of the success probability for contending nodes and prove that an adaptive frame length is quite necessary. We propose Adaptive-ADHOC (A-ADHOC) MAC protocol, which implements a robust mechanism supporting the adaptive frame length. Evaluation result shows that A-ADHOC can maintain a high contending success probability and obtain about 50% reduction of response time over original ADHOC protocol, while providing important enhancement on network scalability and robustness.

Abstract:The Internet,which is constructed based on the TCP/IP structure,has been facing many challenges towards its scalability,efficiency,safety and flexibility.Most proposals today fail to solve these problems all together because they have not fully explored and exploited the multiple attributes of IP addresses.This paper proposes an address driven network architecture, called ADN.The core idea of ADN is solve the key problems faced by Internet,such as space scalability,smooth mobility,security and privacy,service quality,network virtualization,by innovative management and usage of IP addresses,with an extensive exploit of the multiple attributes of IP address,including the length attribute,logic attribute,topology attribute,time attribute,space attribute,ownership attribute,etc.The key technologies of ADN include validated IP address,two-dimensional routing,dynamical IP address,etc.The two-dimensional routing uses the source address as well as the destination address of an IP packet.On the premise of pure IP routing,two-dimensional routing is capable of realizing many complex routing strategies which most existing routing extensions cannot achieve without sacrificing its efficiency and manageability. The validated IP address and dynamical IP address verify the facticity and validity of the source address and destination address,respectively.They prevent the malicious users from launching attacks without being traced using source address forgery,or accessing other end-hosts in the Internet without authorization granted.

Abstract:With the requirement of very large data centers for cloud computing, the challenge lies in how to produce a scalable and inexpensive design to interconnect a large number of servers in data centers while providing fault tolerance and high network capacity. Internet Protocol (IP)-based data center networks (DCNs) can support a sufficiently large number of machines and dynamic multi-path routing. However, the complex and error-prone manual configuration of IP-based DCNs hinders its deployment. In this paper, we propose DCZeroconf, a fully automatic IP address configuration mechanism, to eliminate the burden of manual configurations of the IP addresses of servers and switches in data centers. We have implemented a prototype system to validate the effectiveness of DCZeroconf via extensive experiments and simulations. The evaluation results demonstrate that DCZeroconf supports different topologies, and the assigned IP addresses can be automatically adjusted upon dynamic topology changes. In addition, the entire automatic process can be completed in seconds or less.

Abstract:Ad hoc network is a temporary multi-hop wireless computer communication network that is composed of mobile hosts communicating with each other through wireless links. Efficient energy conservation plays an important role in the performance of Ad hoc network routing because mobile nodes in such networks are usually battery-operated. Dynamic topology is another typical characters. It impacts the stability of route. By observe the remaining energy of node and stability of link between neighbor node, apply a fuzzy logic system to route discovery processes, this paper presents a DSR-based adaptive routing protocol. Simulations clearly indicate that the proposed protocol prolongs the lifetime of network and at the same time improves packet delivery.

Abstract:Mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs) are receiving more and more attention for the extensive field of applications. However, due to the topology dynamic and limitations on resources, the discovery of services is a challenging issue in MANETs. Without considering the different utilization rates of discovered services during executing, existing solutions mostly focus on a maximized service discovery rate, which incurs the unnecessary overhead of discovering superfluous services. This paper presents a novel self-adaptive service discovery approach (SSD) in MANETs. The SSD approach avoids searching relatively useless services by self-adaptively restricting the range of service discovery. Simulation results show that the SSD approach reduces by about 40 percent of the network traffic load and by about 50 percent of the average response time.

Abstract:A common framework which is independent of underlying routing protocols is presented to connect mobile ad hoc networks to the wired Internet.Address autoconfiguration and routing are discussed.When multiple gateways exist,the framework adopts an adaptive gateway discovery algorithm based on the dynamic TTL of the advertisement and the dynamic interval between two advertisements to achieve high efficiency.When gateway handoff occurs,the framework obtains fast handoff performance by pre-establishing a route to the new gateway.Simulations show that these two algorithms efficiently improve the packet delivery ratio and reduce the end-to-end packet delay.The average control overhead is about 20% of that of the routing protocol,thus it will not add too much load to the network.
