Abstract:In this paper, we present a scheme to assign IP address to each newly-joined node. First, some nodes are selected as coordinators. Then a new node will use the exchanged hello messages to find the closest coordinator and obtain a new IP address from that coordinator. In order to efficiently maintain the IP-address pools, the distributed coordinators are organised in a tree topology by exchanging hello messages. Simulation results show that our proposed scheme has a low latency for obtaining a new IP address and that it can efficiently maintain consistent IP-address pools.

Abstract:We propose a new Dynamic Address Assignment Protocol for wireless sensor networks. This new protocol is based on the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol and is modified into wireless sensor networks. The protocol aim to increase the flexibility and agility of wireless sensor networks with changing the amount of sensor nodes in sensor networks system easily. It is well suit for large-scale wireless sensor networks which update their sensor nodes frequently. The goals are achieved by assigning address dynamically and registering in collectors. We present an implement on wireless sensor network and evaluate our approach by discussing the payload ability of a wireless node.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose a novel routing protocol which is integrated with channel assignment for multi-channel multi-hop wireless ad hoc networks. In such a network, each node is equipped with three transceivers. One is always tuned on a control channel which is responsible for control and broadcast messages, and the other two perform as transmitter and receiver respectively for traffic flows on different data channels. The routing protocol works in an on-demand manner, and the proposed routing discovery process selects a path that potentially traverses nodes with lighter traffic load and lower number of carried flows. With a given number of non-overlapping channels, the optimal solution of channel allocation for multiple flows is shown to be in general NP-hard. Therefore, a heuristic algorithm for channel allocation based on the information acquired along a flow path is adopted, in order to mitigate two types of interference, i.e., inter-path interference and intra-path interference. NS2 based simulation experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol.

Abstract:Ad-hoc networks are a new wireless networking paradigm for mobile hosts. Unlike conventional wireless networks, ad-hoc networks have no fixed network infrastructure or administrative support. The topology of the network changes dynamically as mobile nodes join or depart the network or radio links between nodes become unusable. We propose some efficient multipath approaches that provide more secure routing schemes for ad-hoc network than previous ones. Within these approaches, more than one routing paths are selected. With the underlying coding technique, it can guarantee security against some malicious parties (it depends on how robust system is). Moreover, we apply these schemes into existing ad-hoc network routing protocols, table-driven and on-demand routing algorithms. Finally, we derive the relation between some probabilities on our algorithms.

Abstract:The neighbor knowledge in mobile ad hoc networks is important information. However, the accuracy of neighbor knowledge is paid in terms of energy consumption. In traditional schemes for neighbor discovery, a mobile node uses fixed period to send HELLO messages to notify its existence. An adaptive scheme was proposed. The objective is that when mobile nodes are distributed sparsely or move slowly, fewer HELLO messages are needed to achieve reasonable accuracy, while in a mutable network where nodes are dense or move quickly, they can adaptively send more HELLO messages to ensure the accuracy. Simulation results show that the adaptive scheme achieves the objective and performs effectively.

Abstract:This paper theoretically analyzes a deficiency of the existing scheme, and proposes a distributed multi-hop certification authority scheme for mobile Ad Hoc networks. In our design, we distribute the certification authority functions through a threshold secret sharing mechanism, in which each node holds a secret share and multiple nodes jointly provide complete services. Certification authority is not limited in a local neighborhood but can be completed within multi-hop location. In addition, we replace broadcast by multicast to improve system performance and reduce communication overhead. This paper resolves some technical problems of ubiquitous certification authority services, and presents a wieldy multi-hop certification authority algorithm. Simulation results confirm the availability and effectiveness of our design.

Abstract:Address allocation in Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) receives significant importance recently, as a mobile device cannot participate in unicast communications until it is assigned with a conflict free IP address. All routing protocols assume nodes to be configured a priori with a unique IP address. Unlike infrastructure based networks, MANET supports autonomous and spontaneous networking and therefore, should be capable of self organization and configuration. We present a new address allocation protocol in MANET based on the concept of quadratic residue. Each node in the network is capable of assigning a unique IP address with low latency. Addresses are reclaimed automatically, as the quadratic residues lie in cycles. This saves lot of extra communication overhead and bandwidth. Our approach also has support for network merging and partitioning. The proposed scheme can be applied to large scale MANETs with low communication overhead, even distribution, and low latency.

SIDA: Self-organized ID Assignment in Wireless Sensor Networks.

Abstract:Having an ID being unique within the application domain for each sensor node is the basic assumption in many WSN applications. In traditional assignments, fixed-length ID schemes, which are severely limited by scalability, flexibility and energy efficiency, are adopted. To solve these problems, we propose a novel variable-length ID scheme that allows different nodes to have different ID lengths. To realize this idea, we propose a fully localized ID assignment algorithm called Self-organized ID Assignment (SIDA). SIDA presents great potential on scalability, flexibility and energy efficiency by enabling online ID assignment and various optimizations according to different communication paradigms. Analytical and simulation results show that SIDA has a comparable static ID length while the accumulated communication overhead for multi-hop transmissions can be saved by 20%; the control overhead of the new deployment assignment can be reduced to about 30% compared with fixed-length schemes.

Abstract:By analyzing all kinds of address configuration algorithms, this paper provides a new pseudo-random dynamic address configuration (PRDAC) algorithm for mobile ad hoc networks. Based on PRDAC, the first node that initials this network randomly chooses a nonlinear shift register that can generates an in-sequence. When another node joins this network, the initial node will act as an IP address configuration sever to compute an IP address according to this nonlinear shift register, and then allocates this address and tell the generator polynomial of this shift register to this new node. By this means, when other node joins this network, any node that has obtained an IP address can act as a server to allocate address to this new node. PRDAC can also efficiently avoid IP conflicts and deal with network partition and merge as same as prophet address (PA) allocation and dynamic configuration and distribution protocol (DCDP). Furthermore, PRDAC has less algorithm complexity, less computational complexity and more sufficient assumption than PA. In addition, PRDAC radically avoids address conflicts and maximizes the utilization rate of IP addresses. Analysis and simulation results show that PRDAC has rapid convergence, low overhead and immune from topological structures.

Abstract:IP address autoconfiguration of mobile nodes is highly desirable in the practical usage of most mobile ad hoc networks (MANETs). This paper proposes cluster-based autoconfiguration, a novel approach for the efficient address autoconfiguration of MANETs. The cluster structure derived from clustering techniques is used to manage address assignment and conflict resolution. By introducing the concept of virtual address agents (AAs), the proposed approach can be applicable to many existing clustering protocols. Finally, analysis and simulation demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the previous autoconfiguration approaches.
An Ant-Based Distributed Routing Algorithm For Ad-Hoc Networks

Abstract:This paper describes a novel ant-based distributed route algorithm for ad hoc networks (ADRA). The ants move across the network between randomly chosen pairs of nodes; as they move they deposit simulated pheromones as a function of their distance from their source node, the quality of the link, the congestion encountered on their journey, the current pheromones the nodes possess and the velocity the nodes move. Of course the node changes the pheromones by itself according to the quality of link, and ages the link by pheromones evaporating. They select their path at each intermediate node according the distribution of simulated pheromones at each node. In order to accelerate the convergence rate of the congestion problem and the shortcut problem, we endow the parameters different weight values to update the probability routing table. The performance of the algorithm is measured by the packet loss ratio, control overhead as well as end-to-end packet delay. The results of using the improved ant-based control protocols are compared with those achieved by using fixed shortest-path routes previously proposed for use in Ad Hoc networks. The ADRA system is shown to result in fewer call failures than the other methods, while exhibiting many attractive features of distributed control.

Abstract:In Mobile Ad hoc NETworks (MANETs), random access and dynamic routing are two critical techniques for mobile nodes to convey information without centralized scheduling. Conventionally, random access and dynamic routing are implemented at the Medium Access Control (MAC) and the network layer, respectively. However, the current MAC protocol Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) cannot support dynamic routing efficiently. To overcome this limitation, we shall propose a cross-layer protocol which takes dynamic routing into consideration when the mobile nodes contend to access the channel. In the proposed distributed protocol, the routing packets of the network layer are transmitted within the contention period. Since the transmission of routing packets is separated from data transmission in the time-domain, our cross- layer protocol eliminates the collision caused by the transmission of short routing packets. Simulation results will show that our design could significantly improve the system performance at both the MAC and network layers.

Abstract:Routing in wireless communication systems such as ad hoc networks remains a challenging problem given the limited wireless bandwidth, users’ mobility and potentially large scale. Recently, a thrust of research has addressed these problems--the on-demand routing, geographical routing, and virtual coordinates. In this paper, we focus on geographical routing that has been shown to achieve good scalability without flooding; however, this usually requires the availability of location information and can suffer from poor routing performance and severe dead end problems, especially in sparse networks. Specifically, we propose a new Hop ID routing scheme, which is a virtual coordinate-based routing protocol and does not require any location information. This achieves excellent routing performance comparable with that obtained by the shortest path routing schemes. In addition, we design efficient algorithms for setting up the system and adapt to the node mobility quickly, and can effectively route out of dead ends. Extensive analysis and simulation show that the Hop ID based routing achieves efficient routing for mobile ad hoc networks with various density, irregular topologies and obstacles.
Low-Energy Address Allocation Scheme for Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract:We propose in this paper a low-energy address allocation scheme (LEADS). LEADS is a two-level hierarchical conflict- free address allocation scheme that provides validated address to each node in a wireless sensor network. LEADS provides a quick and energy-efficient self-configuration solution for WSN deployment. It takes the unsolved issues related to random arrival and abrupt departure of sensor nodes into account, both in partitions splitting and merging scenarios. Unlike most of the existing solutions, LEADS does not require any information from neither periodical control packet (HELLO message) (Nesargi and Prakash, 2002), nor routing protocols (Vaidya, 2002). In LEADS, the addresses space is divided into addresses pools which are managed by addresses agents. Every agent uses a stateful function to assign addresses to the nodes in its neighborhood. The uniqueness of assigned addresses is guaranteed by this two-level allocation strategy. Moreover, LEADS is a localized algorithm. Simulation results show that LEADS achieves the dynamic address allocation task with both lower message cost and lower energy consumption comparing to existing solutions. Our results illustrate the need for a dynamic and low-energy address allocation scheme to realize energy efficient sensor network applications and to extend network lifespan.

Abstract:Ad hoc network is a temporary multi-hop wireless computer communication network that is composed of mobile hosts communicating with each other through wireless links. Efficient energy conservation plays an important role in the performance of Ad hoc network routing because mobile nodes in such networks are usually battery-operated. Dynamic topology is another typical characters. It impacts the stability of route. By observe the remaining energy of node and stability of link between neighbor node, apply a fuzzy logic system to route discovery processes, this paper presents a DSR-based adaptive routing protocol. Simulations clearly indicate that the proposed protocol prolongs the lifetime of network and at the same time improves packet delivery.
A Cooperative Two-Tier Framework for Efficient Routing in MANET

Abstract:Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANET) is a collection of randomly moving wireless devices within a particular area. Unlike in cellular networks, there are no fixed base-stations to support routing and mobility management. Further more, many resources such as power energy and bandwidth are very limited in MANET. Concentrating on these problems, we present acooperative two-tier framework. The framework contains two algorithms, SSCA and DSRU. SSCA is mainly responsible for topology management, and DSRU is responsible for the routing update. SSCA is a GPS based clustering mechanism. By predicting the next location of mobile node with its historic trajectory, it adjusts the node's transmit power in advance, and controls all nodes in suitable size clusters. Based on the clusters, DSRU is proposed in order to control the routing overhead while gets relatively exact global topology information. Experiment on the GloMoSim simulator shows that the framework proposed in this paper results in a notablereduction both in energy consumption and in routing overhead, and a notable improvement in network throughput, especially for the networks composed of high-speed mobile hosts.
