The Evolution of American Industrial Structure and its Revelation for China

Abstract:Analysis of the evolution of the American industrial structure indicates that there exist intimate and coordinated development relationships among the primary, secondary and tertiary indus-tries. That discovery means that the proportion of the tertiary industry is not the higher the better. Therefore, what should be done is to strengthen the foundation for the development of the primary in-dustry, enhance the supporting role of the secondary industry and highlight the dominant position of the tertiary industry. It is essential to optimize the supply system of the three industries in order to maintain a proper proportional relationship among the three. Still in the early stage of the new industrial structure evolution, China must follow the laws of industrial evolution and formulate scientific industrial policies according to its own development conditions and the characteristics of its environment. Therefore, while emphasizing the coordinated and balanced development among the industries and within each industry, China should optimize and upgrade its industrial structure by strengthening technological innovation, o-pening wider to the outside world, encouraging industrial transformation and improving the efficiency and quality of industry supply. That is also an inevitable requirement for China's economy in transfor-mation from high-speed development to quality development.
