Confucius’Survival Plight and the Decline of the Artistic Spirit of the Ritual Culture

Abstract:Ritual culture is ethical norms and enlightenment meaning of the Zhou Dynasty. Although it is not art,the gentlemanly behaviors,the ele-gant ceremonies and pretty ritual articles are all full of the rich aesthetic value and poetic spirit. As one of the typical aristocratic culture,ritual culture can be achieved only if the society were peace,stability and aristocracy has status. However,in the Spring and Autumn Period,due to the war and the decli-ning social status of aristocracy,ritual culture tends to decline. Confucius efforts to restore ritual culture,but he was poor and ill - timed,so he couldn’ t restore the poetic character of the ritual culture. Then,ritualized music becomes soul music. That is to say,internal spirit is separated from the ceremo-ny of the external form and then the art of ritual culture spirit further toward extinction.
