Needs of Child Sexual Abuse Prevention Education in Professional of Children Protection

Abstract:Objectives:To understand knowledge,confidence and difficulties of child sexual abuse(CSA) prevention education among child protection workers,and to provide basis for professional training.Method:Questionnaires were administered anonymously to twenty-eight child protection professionals coming from education departments(school teachers and school health care professionals),civil affairs and women's federation departments(social workers),as well as from hospitals(pediatrician).Result:In this sample,96.4% of them approved of school CSA prevention education.Overall,nearly 50% of them are still lack of CSA prevention knowledge.For example,only 32.1% of them believed that most abusers were familiar to abused child.Nearly 50% of them lacked confidence in teaching CSA prevention-related knowledge and skills.Most professionals believed that CSA prevention education should be carried out early in kindergarten,teaching children to know the name of body parts,Good-intentioned touch or evil-intentioned touch,How to communicate with other people and precaution measures.The difficulties for CSA prevention education included lack of understanding and support from school authorities or parents;and lack of special training courses and systematic teaching materials.Conclusion:The findings indicated that it is urgent to develop CSA prevention training materials and education curriculums for children of different development stages.In addition,it is also important to reinforce training of child protection professionals to increase their knowledge and education skills.
