QUALITATIVE RESEARCH OF AWARENESS ON CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

Abstract:[Objectives] To understand the awareness of child sexual abuse (CSA) among elementary school teachers. [Methods] Twenty-two elementary school teachers were interviewed by in-depth interviewing method. [Results] Half of interviewees regarded CSA as physical contact CSA, such as rape and touching child’s body. Most interviewees believed that the abuser was unfamiliar to children. All of the teachers had never communicated about CSA prevention topic with their students. If a child was abused, half of interviewees would tell his parents at first, and half of them would seek help from judicial process. Almost all the interviewees believed that the main strategy of CSA prevention is to conduct CSA prevention education in schools. [Conclusion] The awareness of CSA among elementary school teachers is not so good, therefore, we should enhance training for these teachers.
