Abstract:Through text analysis,we find there are some drawbacks in the traditional views which hold that On the Goddess of the Luo River( 《洛神赋》) by Cao Zhi( 曹植) was written either in memory of the Empress Zhen( 甄后) or showing his devotion to the Emperor Wen( 魏文帝). From the perspective of modern medicine,Cao Zhi showed signs of typical depressive mood disorder when he suffered a great psychic trauma in July, the fourth year under the reign of the Emperor Wen( 黄初四年,i. e.,223 AD). On the way from Luoyang( 洛阳) to Juancheng(-城),Cao Zhi passed the Luo River( 洛河),where he had a magical hallucination experience and showed a tendency to drown himself in the river. He recorded his most painful psychological changes in his famous work On the Goddess of the Luo River.
