It becomes a connecting link on study of the history of Chinese language and has important values relying on the colloquial characteristic. The study of mid-ancient Chinese vocabulary was booming in the late period of the last century. Compared with the previous fragmentary research, great progress has been made either in research contents or in methods. But it still has many questions to discuss, such as research depth, scope, concrete tasks and methods.

Abstract:The study of Chinese syntax began with the advent of Chinese grammar. Syntactic classifications have hitherto been carried out in the light of different grammatical theories and systems, giving birth to diverse and even mutually exclusive sentence patterns. It is suggested in this essay that, in the study of Chinese syntax, priority be given to the establishment of a whole system of scientifically defined, general, concise, and practical sentence patterns in consistency with Chinese grammatical rules.

Abstract:the research on modern Chinese vocabulary of 2015 has made fruitful achievements both in ontology and application. On the ontology level, there are achievements in morphology, lexicalization, lexical semantics, minority language vocabulary, and dialect words, etc. On the application level, there are achievements in vocabulary teaching and acquisition, dictionary compilation, words use and standalization, etc. On the whole, the research includes microcosmic view and macroscopic analysis, with a wider range and increasingly rich research perspective. However, there are still some research weaknesses, such as lettered-words, loanwords, Chinese information processing and cross-straits vocabulary. Their intensity, breadth and depth have yet to be further strengthened. Besides, corpus, database and other information technology are paid more attention to, which is the trend of applied lexicology development.

Abstract:the research on modern Chinese vocabulary in ontology and application of 2013 has made fruitful achievements and great progress. For example, the research in lexical ontology is of large quantity and wide range; the research in lexical application is of all-round angle and deep level. The vocabulary study as a whole reflected its microcosmic view and macroscopic analysis; the theory and application research have made common progress, the scope has expanded and the level has promoted. However, some aspects of the research in this year were relatively weak, such as word-formation, word class, lexicalization, loanwords, and vocabulary research from the perspective of Chinese information processing and of teaching Chinese as a foreign language. Abstract:In the past 20years,the research on the vocabulary teaching of Chinese as second language has had a great development both in macro-conception and micro-analysis,as well as both theoretical elaboration and exploration of the teaching practice,which has shown the expansion of the cope and the multi-dimensional characters of the research.Meanwhile,interdisciplinary methods,as well as the scientific means,are used.Among the present results of the research,the basic units of word teaching and the amount of the vocabulary teaching are two of the most controversial points.In order to be more efficient for vocabulary teaching and research,it is necessary for careful analysis of the Chinese vocabulary itself,and to have organic integration of the research on the Chinese vocabulary itself with the research on the practical teaching process.

Abstract:In general,the research on contemporary Chinese vocabulary should include two aspects: the existing words and the new words.The former have the changes of being out of use and come into use again,or changes of meaning and application scope,etc.As for the latter,despite their huge amount and wide usage,they also have their clear features and obvious defects.In research we should update and readjust ideas,establish a "two wings" mode to explore the scope of research,enhance theory construction and its application.Another aspect is the compiling of reference books,such as chronicle new words dictionary,dictionary of network language,dictionary of exotic words,etc.

Abstract:This study quantitatively investigated word frequencies in parallel Chinese texts at three different periods, namely, Classical Chinese (1855), Beijing Mandarin (1908) and Modern Mandarin (2010), attempting to shed some light on the evolution of the Chinese language over the last 150 years. With the evolution of Chinese: both the types and tokens increased diachronically, and sharp changes can be found in the high-frequency function words, vocabulary richness, and the distribution of word classes. The syntactic structure has also become increasingly complex. In addition, although the length of words (measured in character) has increased diachronically, disyllabic words have not always been preponderant in Chinese after the opium war of 1840–1842. The results show that the complication is a crucial trend in the evolution process of Chinese.

In ontology, its achievements includes lexical semantics, dialect words, new words, word class, word-formation, lexicalization, idioms and vocabulary theory, etc. In application, its achievements include the compilation of dictionaries, vocabulary teaching and acquisition, and the research of vocabulary from the perspective of Chinese information processing, etc. Compared with the research on modern Chinese vocabulary in 2013, the number of research achievements in 2014 dramatically reduced. Thus, we believe that the research of vocabulary has the good year and the bad year, which has enlightening significance for our research.
A Study on the Evolution of the Verbal Syntactic Valence Based on Corpus

Abstract:The paper aims at studying the evolution process of the syntactic valence of verbs. In the study, three corpuses, i.e. the corpus of ancient classical Chinese,the corpus of ancient vernacular and the corpus of modern vernacular, are constructed. We selected ten main verbs as the objects of the research, and suggested some methods of sample sentence selecting and analyzing. The complements and modifications of the verbs are analyzed in this paper. It reveals that Chinese grammer changes gradually. The ancient classical Chinese and the ancient vernacular are more similar in sentence structures. After the transformation from the ancient vernacular to the modern vernacular, the complexity of Chinese sentences is increased sharply, indicating that Chinese sentence structures have changed greatly after the transformation from ancient vernacular to modern vernacular.

Abstract:This paper aims to discuss some phenomena in the study of theoretical history of Chinese literature and art in 20th century (shortened as “A century’s Academic Case”). First, it is the style of study, and a simple and unadorned style at that, without which a-hundred-year study cannot be continued. Second, it is the method of study, the method of philological genetics, which has deepened the thoughts and ideas that are demonstrably resulted from the style. Third, it is the bearing of the scholars which comes from the consciousness of “academic history” and the intention of the construction of “schools” on the part of the scholars.

Abstract:the research results of modern Chinese vocabulary ontology in 2019 were mainly reflected in the aspects of meaning,category words, word evolution, vocabulary theory and so on. The applied research results were mainly reflected in thesaurus compilation, word teaching and acquisition, word comparison and so on. On the whole, the vocabulary research was characterized by the combination of microscopic investigation and macroscopic analysis, the co-progress of theoretical exploration and applied research, the relative emphasis on diachronic perspective, and the continuous progress of research scale and research technology. In that year, the number of lexical research results increased significantly, and the relevance of the research results with seminars and project proposals was further enhanced, which continuously promoted the research of modern Chinese lexicology to a more far-reaching direction.

Abstract:This study documents the past and present of English scholarship of Shuōwén jiězì , the most important masterpiece of classical Chinese philology and lexicography. In an attempt to investigate the current status (synchronically) and developmental trajectory (diachronically) of Shuōwén scholarship, this study surveyed the bibliographical, theoretical, methodological and thematic state of Shuōwén literature manifested in an analytical framework of six parameters (geographic distribution, publication outlets, citations, theoretical approaches, research methods and research strands) by adopting a thorough bibliometric analysis subsequent to meticulous coding in terms of these six parameters in Shuōwén scholarship. The results showed that Shuōwén scholarship has displayed distinctive distribution patterns and chronological trends along bibliographical, theoretical, methodological and thematic dimensions. Synchronically, the research output is regionally based, thematically restricted and qualitatively examined; diachronically, the research quality is fluctuating, though research quantity multiplies steadily. To look ahead, the study sketched a few directions for advancement of future research agendas: a more global profile of researchers, a larger degree of internationalization of the native circle, a wider disciplinary range, and increased specialization streamlined into data-driven approach to core issues of liùshū, bùshǒu and GPS (graphic-phonetic-semantic) of head graphs. The study is useful in portraying an overarching disciplinary landscape for Shuōwén research and providing the basic reference statistics for possible comparisons across classical Chinese studies and for more general conclusions about the state of scholarship on sinology.
