Influence of outsourcing remanufacturing on supply chain members' decisions

Abstract:For a supply chain composed of one supplier,one manufacturer and a third-party remanufacturer,the influence of outsourcing remanufacturing on supply chain members' decision is discussed.The three-stage sequential game is adopted to analyze the balanced decisions of the supplier,manufacturer and remanufacturer.The study found that when the manufacturer just may be outsourcing remanufacturing to remanufacturer,the supplier attempts through reducing price to inducing the manufacturer to give up remanufacturing outsourcing.At this point,the "dual marginal effect" of the supply chain is alleviated,the profits of the suppliers decreased and the profits of the manufacturers increased.And when manufacturers actually outsource their remanufacturing operations,by lowering prices,supplier still entices manufacturers to order more goods.In an extreme case where all recyclable products are remanufactured by remanufacturer,the supplier and the manufacturer will fall into the "prisoner's dilemma",that leads to a "lose-lose"situation.
