Abstract:Motivated by some models of transmitting messages in interconnection networks,we studied a new parameter, named (d,4)-dominating number,in 2-dimensional toroidal mesh C(d1,d2).We show that the (d,4)-dominating number of C(d1,d2)(d1≥3,d2≥3) is 2 for d＝diam(G) or diam(G)+1.

Abstract:Connected Dominating Set is widely used as virtual backbone in wireless networks to improve network performance and optimize routing protocols. Based on special characteristics of ad-hoc and sensor networks, we usually use unit disk graph to represent the corresponding geometrical structures, where each node has a unit transmission range and two nodes are said to be adjacent if the distance between them is less than 1. Since every Maximal Independent Set (MIS) is a dominating set and it is easy to construct, we can firstly find an MIS and then connect it into a Connected Dominating Set (CDS). Therefore, the ratio to compare the size of an MIS with a minimum CDS becomes a theoretical upper bound for approximation algorithms to compute CDS. In our paper, with the help of Voronoi diagram and Euler's formula, we improved this upper bound, so that improved the approximations based on this relation.

Abstract:Domination is a structural complexity of chemical molecular graphs. A dominating set in a (molecular) graph G=V,E is a subset S⊆V such that each vertex in V\S is adjacent to at least one vertex in S. The domination number γG of a graph G is the minimum size of a dominating set in G. In this paper, computer-aided approaches for obtaining bounds for domination number on torus graphs are here considered, and many new exact values and bounds are obtained.

Abstract:A vertex subset S of a graph G is said to 2-dominate the graph if each vertex not in S has at least two neighbors in it. As usual, the associated parameter is the minimum cardinal of a 2-dominating set, which is called the 2-domination number of the graph G. We present both lower and upper bounds of the 2-domination number of cylinders, which are the Cartesian products of a path and a cycle. These bounds allow us to compute the exact value of the 2-domination number of cylinders where the path is arbitrary, and the order of the cycle is n $\equiv$ 0(mod 3) and as large as desired. In the case of the lower bound, we adapt the technique of the wasted domination to this parameter and we use the so-called tropical matrix product to obtain the desired bound. Moreover, we provide a regular patterned construction of a minimum 2-dominating set in the cylinders having the mentioned cycle order.

Abstract:In 2011, Li et al. \cite{LLL} obtained an upper bound of the strong rainbow connection number of an $r$-dimensional undirected toroidal mesh. In this paper, this bound is improved. As a result, we give a negative answer to their problem.

Abstract:An integer distance digraph is the Cayley graph $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z},S)$ of the additive group $\mathbb{Z}$ of all integers with respect to some finite subset $S \subseteq \mathbb{Z}$. The domination ratio of $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z},S)$ is the minimum density of a dominating set in $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z},S)$. We establish some basic results on the domination ratio of $\Gamma(\mathbb{Z},S)$ and precisely determine it when $S=\{s,t\}$ with $s$ dividing $t$.

Abstract:For a graph $G=(V, E)$, a weak $\{2\}$-dominating function $f:V\rightarrow \{0,1,2\}$ has the property that $\sum _{u\in N(v)}f(u)\ge 2$ for every vertex $v\in V$ with $f(v)= 0$, where N(v) is the set of neighbors of v in G. The weight of a weak $\{2\}$-dominating function f is the sum $\sum _{v\in V}f(v)$ and the minimum weight of a weak $\{2\}$-dominating function is the weak $\{2\}$-domination number. In this paper, we introduce a discharging approach and provide a short proof for the lower bound of the weak $\{2\}$-domination number of $C_n \Box C_5$, which was obtained by Stȩpień, et al. (Discrete Appl Math 170:113–116, 2014). Moreover, we obtain the weak $\{2\}$-domination numbers of $C_n \Box C_3$ and $C_n \Box C_4$.

Abstract:A subset S of the vertex set of a graph G is called acyclic if the subgraph it induces in G contains no cycles. We call S an acyclic dominating set if it is both acyclic and dominating. The minimum cardinality of an acyclic dominating set, denoted by gamma a(G), is called the acyclic domination number of G. A graph G is 2-diameter-critical if it has diameter 2 and the deletion of any edge increases its diameter. In this paper, we show that for any positive integers k and d >= 3, there is a 2-diameter-critical graph G such that delta(G) = d and gamma a(G) - gamma(G) >= k, and our result answers a question posed by Cheng et al. in negative.

Abstract:Consider a finite simple digraph $D$ with vertex set $V(D)$. An Italian dominating function (IDF) on $D$ is a function $f:V(D)\rightarrow\{0,1,2\}$ satisfying every vertex $u$ with $f(u)=0$ has an in-neighbor $v$ with $f(v)=2$ or two in-neighbors $w$ and $z$ with $f(w)=f(z)=1$. A total Italian dominating function (TIDF) on $D$ is an IDF $f$ such that the subdigraph $D[\{ u\, |\, f(u)\ge 1\}]$ contains no isolated vertices. The weight $\omega(f)$ of a TIDF $f$ on $D$ is $\sum_{u\in V(D)}f(u)$. The total Italian domination number of $D$ is $\gamma_{tI}(D)=\min\{ \omega(f)\, |\, \mbox{$f$ is a TIDF on $D$}\}$. In this paper, we present bounds on $\gamma_{tI}(D)$, and investigate the relationship between several different domination parameters. In particular, we give the total Italian domination number of the Cartesian products $P_2\Box P_n$ and $P_3\Box P_n$, where $P_n$ represents a dipath with $n$ vertices.

Abstract:We study the 2-adic behavior of the number of domino tilings of a $2(2n+1)\times 2(2n+1)$ torus. We show that this number is of the form $2^{4n+3}g(n)^2+2^{8n+2}(2n+1)^{4n}h(n)$, where $g(n)$ and $h(n)$ are odd positive integers. Moreover, we prove that $g(n)$ and $h(n)$ are uniformly continuous under the 2-adic metric and invariant under interchanging $n$ and $-1-n$. This paper is an analogy of Henry Cohn's results for $2n\times 2n$ squares (Electron. J. Combin. 6 (1999)).

Abstract:Let G = (V, E) be a graph. A subset S of V is called a dominating set if each vertex of V - S has at least one neighbor in S. The domination number gamma (G) equals the minimum cardinality of a dominating set in G. A minus dominating function on G is a function f : V -> {-1, 0, 1} such that f(N[v]) = Sigma(u is an element of N[v]) f(u) >= 1 for each v is an element of V, where N[v] is the closed neighborhood of v. The minus domination number of G is gamma(-)(G) = min{Sigma(v is an element of V) f(v) vertical bar f is a minus dominating function on G). It was incorrectly shown in [X. Yang, Q. Hou, X. Huang, H. Xuan, The difference between the domination number and minus domination number of a cubic graph, Applied Mathematics Letters 16 (2003) 1089-1093] that there is an infinite family of cubic graphs in which the difference gamma - gamma(-) can be made arbitrary large. Abstract:Let G=V,E be a simple graph. A subset D⊆V is a dominating set if every vertex not in D is adjacent to a vertex in D . The domination number of G , denoted by γG , is the smallest cardinality of a dominating set of G . The domination subdivision number sdγG of G is the minimum number of edges that must be subdivided (each edge can be subdivided at most once) in order to increase the domination number. In 2000, Haynes et al. showed that sdγG≤dGv+dGv−1 for any edge uv∈EG with dGu≥2 and dGv≥2 where G is a connected graph with order no less than 3. In this paper, we improve the above bound to sdγG≤dGu+dGv−NGu∩NGv−1 , and furthermore, we show the decision problem for determining whether sdγG=1 is NP-hard. Moreover, we show some bounds or exact values for domination subdivision numbers of some graphs.

Abstract:Let $G=(V, E)$ be a graph where $V$ and $E$ are the vertex and edge sets, respectively. For two disjoint subsets $A$ and $B$ of $V$, we say $A$ \emph{dominates} $B$ if every vertex of $B$ is adjacent to at least one vertex of $A$. A vertex partition $\pi = \{V_1, V_2, \ldots, V_k\}$ of $G$ is called a \emph{transitive partition} of size $k$ if $V_i$ dominates $V_j$ for all $1\leq i<j\leq k$. In this article, we initiate the study of a generalization of transitive partition, namely \emph{$d_2$-transitive partition}. For two disjoint subsets $A$ and $B$ of $V$, we say $A$ \emph{$d_2$-dominates} $B$ if, for every vertex of $B$, there exists a vertex in $A$, such that the distance between them is at most two. A vertex partition $\pi = \{V_1, V_2, \ldots, V_k\}$ of $G$ is called a \emph{$d_2$-transitive partition} of size $k$ if $V_i$ $d_2$-dominates $V_j$ for all $1\leq i<j\leq k$. The maximum integer $k$ for which the above partition exists is called \emph{$d_2$-transitivity} of $G$, and it is denoted by $Tr_{d_2}(G)$. The \textsc{Maximum $d_2$-Transitivity Problem} is to find a $d_2$-transitive partition of a given graph with the maximum number of parts. We show that this problem can be solved in linear time for the complement of bipartite graphs and bipartite chain graphs. On the negative side, we prove that the decision version of the \textsc{Maximum $d_2$-Transitivity Problem} is NP-complete for split graphs, bipartite graphs, and star-convex bipartite graphs.

Abstract:A graph G is 3-domination-critical (3-critical, for short), if its domination number gamma is 3 and the addition of any edge decreases gamma by 1. A Constant-Factor Approximation for D-Hop Connected Dominating Sets in Unit Disk Graph

Abstract:This paper presents a new distributed constant-factor approximation to compute d-CDS in Unit Disk Graph with low time complexity. We firstly propose an algorithm for a special case of d=2, namely Two-Hop Connected Dominating Set (TCDS or 2-CDS) with three phases: collecting information for each node; computing a Two-hop Maximal Independent Set (2-MIS); and connecting the selected set. The whole algorithm has approximation ratio 17.421opt + 51.456, where opt is the number of nodes in an optimal 2-CDS set. Next we generalise this algorithm for d-CDS with arbitrary integer d. The generalisation also has a constant-factor approximation ratio (0.335 r(3) + 1.337 r(2) + 0.585 r) opt + (3.338 r(3) + 0.5 r(2) - 0.585 r), where r = d + 0.5. We then compare our algorithm (d = 2) with two classical distributed routing protocols by numerical experiments, proving the efficiency of our design.
Connected Domination in Plane Triangulations

Abstract:A set of vertices of a graph $G$ such that each vertex of $G$ is either in the set or is adjacent to a vertex in the set is called a dominating set of $G$. If additionally, the set of vertices induces a connected subgraph of $G$ then the set is a connected dominating set of $G$. The domination number $\gamma(G)$ of $G$ is the smallest number of vertices in a dominating set of $G$, and the connected domination number $\gamma_c(G)$ of $G$ is the smallest number of vertices in a connected dominating set of $G$. We find the connected domination numbers for all triangulations of up to thirteen vertices. For $n\ge 15$, $n\equiv 0$ (mod 3), we find graphs of order $n$ and $\gamma_c=\frac{n}{3}$. We also show that the difference $\gamma_c(G)-\gamma(G)$ can be arbitrarily large.

Abstract:A set D⊆V(G) of a graph G is a dominating set if every vertex v∈V(G) is either in D or adjacent to a vertex in D. The domination number γ(G) of a graph G is the minimum cardinality of a dominating set of G. Campos and Wakabayashi (2013) and Tokunaga (2013) proved independently that if G is an n-vertex maximal outerplanar graph having t vertices of degree 2, then γ(G)≤n+t4. We improve their upper bound by showing γ(G)≤n+k4, where k is the number of pairs of consecutive 2-degree vertices with distance at least 3 on the outer cycle. Moreover, we prove that γ(G)≤5n16 for a Hamiltonian maximal planar graph G with n≥7 vertices.

Abstract:Wide diameter dω(G) and fault-diameter Dω(G) of an interconnection network G have been recently studied by many authors. We determine the wide diameter and fault-diameter of the integer simplex Tmn. Note that d1(Tmn)=D1(Tmn)=d(Tmn), where d(Tmn) is the diameter of Tmn. We prove that dω(Tmn)=Dω(Tmn)=d(Tmn)+1 when 2≤ω≤n. Since a triangular pyramid TPL is TL3, we have dω(TPL)=Dω(TPL)=d(TPL)+1 when 2≤ω≤3.
