Abstract:It is well known that the Lie symmetry is an invariance of the ordinarydifferential equations under the infinitesimal transformations. Theinvariance of the equations of motion leads th satisfaction of thedetermining equations and the invariance of the equations of constraintsleads the satisfaction of the restriction equations. A Lie symmetry canlead a conserved quantity under certain conditions. One of theconditions is the satisfaction of the structure equation. In this paperthe Lie symmetries and conserved quantities of mechanical systems withintegrable differential constraints are investigated. The integrabledifferential constraint is called semi-holonomic constraint. Amechanical system with integrable differential constraints can beconsidered as a nonholonomic system or as a holonomic system. We usetwo methods in studing the Lie symmetries and conserved quantities ofthe system. In the first method, the system is considered as anonholonomic system and in the second method it is considered as areduced holonomic system after integration. The definitions of weaklyand strongly Lie symmetries in the two cases are given. The relationbetween two methods is obtained. The results prove that it is possiblethat some symmetries are lost in the second method.
