Abstract:We construct a class of positive linear maps on matrix algebras. We find conditions when these maps are atomic, decomposable and completely positive. We obtain a large class of atomic positive linear maps. As applications in quantum information theory, we discuss the structural physical approximation and optimality of entanglement witness associated with these maps.

Abstract:We study several classes of general non-linear positive maps between C*-algebras, which are not necessary completely positive maps. We characterize the class of the compositions of *-multiplicative maps and positive linear mapsas the class of non-linear maps of boundedly positive type abstractly. We consider three classes of non-linear positive maps defined only on the positive cones, which are the classes of being monotone, supercongruent or concave. Any concave maps are monotone. The intersection of the monotone maps and the supercongruent maps characterizes the class of monotone Borel functional calculus. We give many examples of non-linear positive maps, which show that there exist no other relations among these three classes in general.

Abstract:A linear map between matrix spaces is positive if it maps positive semidefinite matrices to positive semidefinite ones, and is called completely positive if all its ampliations are positive. In this article quantitative bounds on the fraction of positive maps that are completely positive are proved. A main tool are real algebraic geometry techniques developed by Blekherman to study the gap between positive polynomials and sums of squares. Finally, an algorithm to produce positive maps which are not completely positive is given.

Abstract:In this paper, we provide a representation of a certain class of C*-valued positive sesquilinear and linear maps on non-unital quasi *-algebras. Also, we illustrate our results on the concrete examples of non-unital Banach quasi *-algebras, such as the standard Hilbert module over a commutative C*-algebra, Schatten p-ideals, and noncommutative L2 spaces induced by a semifinite, nonfinite trace. As a consequence of our results, we obtain a representation of all bounded positive linear C*-valued maps on non-unital C*-algebras. We also deduce some norm inequalities for these maps. Finally, we consider a noncommutative L2 space equipped with the topology generated by a positive sesquilinear form and we construct a topologically transitive operator on this space.

Abstract:In this paper, we begin by presenting a construction for induced representations of Hilbert modules over pro-$C^*$-algebras for a given continuous $^*$-morphism between pro-$C^*$-algebras. Subsequently, we describe the structure of completely positive maps between two pro-$C^*$-algebras using Paschke's GNS construction for CP-maps on pro-$C^*$-algebras. Furthermore, through our construction, we establish a structure theorem for a $\phi-$map between two Hilbert modules over pro-$C^*$-algebras, where $\phi$ is a continuous CP-map between pro-$C^*$-algebras. We also discuss the minimality of these representations.

Abstract:Let A, B are unital C*-algebras, M is a left-cancellative semigroup with unit, theta is a fixed 2-cocycle of M. alpha: x --> alpha(x). is a hornomorphism from M into the group Aut (A) of automorphisms of A, W is an isometric projective homomorphism from M to B, J is a closed two-sided deal of B, tau is a unital *-homomorphism from C-theta(*)(M) to B/J. An abstract covariant version of Stinespring's dilation theorem is given. It is shown that a W-covariant completely positive map phi from A to B extends to a completely positive map on the (twisted) crossed product C-theta(*) (A, M, alpha). These results are used to give necessary and sufficient conditions for tau to have a completely positive lifting.

Abstract:The theory of positive maps plays a central role in operator algebras and functional analysis and has countless applications in quantum information science. The theory was originally developed for operators acting on complex Hilbert spaces and less is known about its variant on real Hilbert spaces. In this article, we study positive maps acting on a full matrix algebra over the reals, pointing out a number of fundamental differences with the complex case and discussing their implications in quantum information. We provide a necessary and sufficient condition for a real map to admit a positive complexification and connect the existence of positive maps with non-positive complexification with the existence of mixed states that are entangled in real Hilbert space quantum mechanics, but separable in the complex version, providing explicit examples both for the maps and for the states. Finally, we discuss entanglement breaking and PPT maps, and we show that a straightforward real version of the PPT-squared conjecture is false even in dimension 2. Nevertheless, we show that the original PPT-squared conjecture implies a different conjecture for real maps, in which the PPT property is replaced by a stronger property of invariance under partial transposition (IPT). When the IPT property is assumed, we prove an asymptotic version of the conjecture.

In 1977, Cuntz introduced a comparison in the set of all positive elements in a C*-algebra. Let A be a C*-algebra. For A, B∈A +, we write A≤B if there exists an element X∈A such that A=XBX*. In this paper, we characterize all weakly continuous semilinear surjective maps on A H+ which preserves the positive elements comparison in both directions.

Abstract:Let A and B be unital C~*-algebras, s ∈A and t ∈ B be invertible self-adjoint elements. For every x ∈ A and z ∈B, define x~+=s~(-1)x~*s and z~+=t~(-1)z~*t. Assume that A is of real rank zero and φ: A→B is a bounded linear surjection. This paper shows that, x~+y=0 φ(x)~+φ(y)=0 and xy~+=0 φ(x)φ(y)~+=0 for any x, y ∈ A, if and only if φ(1) is invertible, φ(1)~+φ(1)=φ(1)φ(1)~+ ∈(B) (the center of B) and there exists a surjective +-homomorphism ψ(i.e., ψ is a homomorphism and ψ(x~+)=ψ(x)~+, x ∈A) from A onto B such that φ(x)=φ(1)ψ(x) for all x ∈A. For general C~*-algebra cases, a similar result is obtained for orthogonality preservers under an additional assumption that φ(1) is invertible.

Abstract:We present positive maps and matrix inequalities for variables from the positive cone. These inequalities contain partial transpose and reshuffling operations, and can be understood as positive multilinear maps that are in one-to-one correspondence with elements from the walled Brauer algebra. Using our formalism, these maps can be obtained in a systematic and clear way by manipulating partially transposed permutation operators under a partial trace. Additionally, these maps are reasonably easy in construction by combining an algorithmic approach with graphical calculus.

Abstract:We introduce positive correspondences as right C*-modules with left actions given by completely positive maps. Positive correspondences form a semi-category that contains the C*-correspondence (Enchilada) category as a "retract". Kasparov's KSGNS construction provides a semi-functor from this semi-category onto the C*-correspondence category. The need for left actions by completely positive maps appears naturally when we consider morphisms between Cuntz-Pimsner algebras, and we describe classes of examples arising from projections on C*-correspondences and Fock spaces, as well as examples from conjugation by bi-Hilbertian bimodules of finite index.

Abstract:For a positive and invertible linear operator $T$ acting on a $C^*$-algebra, we give necessary and sufficient criteria for the inverse operator $T^{-1}$ to be positive, too. Moreover, a simple counterexample shows that $T^{-1}$ need not be positive even if $T$ is unital and its spectrum is contained in the unit circle.

Abstract:We show that each positive map from B(K) to B(H) with K and H finite dimensional Hilbert spaces is a scalar multiple of a map of the form $Tr - \psi$ with $\psi$ completely positive. This is used to give necessary and sufficient conditions for maps to be C-positive for a large class of mapping cones; in particular we apply the results to k-positive maps.

Abstract:The author was recently able to provide a cohomological interpretation of Tate's Riemann-Roch formula for number fields using some new harmonic analysis objects, ghost-spaces. When trying to investigate these objects in general, we realized the importance of functions and measures on locally compact abelian groups that are both positive and positive-definite at the same time. It looks like this class of functions and measures was not systematically studied before. The goal of this paper is to partially fill in this gap. We answer some of the natural questions involving these functions and measures, especially those that satisfy some extra integrability conditions. We also study some operations and constructions involving these functions and measures. There are several very interesting open questions, that we are only able to point out at this moment. In particular, the structure of the cone of such functions is not clear even when the group is just $\R.$

Abstract:A linear map $\Phi$ between matrix spaces is called cross-positive if it is positive on orthogonal pairs $(U,V)$ of positive semidefinite matrices in the sense that $\langle U,V\rangle:=\text{Tr}(UV)=0$ implies $\langle \Phi(U),V\rangle\geq0$, and is completely cross-positive if all its ampliations $I_n\otimes \Phi$ are cross-positive. (Completely) cross-positive maps arise in the theory of operator semigroups, where they are sometimes called exponentially-positive maps, and are also important in the theory of affine processes on symmetric cones in mathematical finance. To each $\Phi$ as above a bihomogeneous form is associated by $p_\Phi(x,y)=y^T\Phi(xx^T)y$. Then $\Phi$ is cross-positive if and only if $p_\Phi$ is nonnegative on the variety of pairs of orthogonal vectors $\{(x,y)\mid x^Ty=0\}$. Moreover, $\Phi$ is shown to be completely cross-positive if and only if $p_\Phi$ is a sum of squares modulo the principal ideal $(x^Ty)$. These observations bring the study of cross-positive maps into the powerful setting of real algebraic geometry. Here this interplay is exploited to prove quantitative bounds on the fraction of cross-positive maps that are completely cross-positive. Detailed results about cross-positive maps $\Phi$ mapping between $3\times 3$ matrices are given. Finally, an algorithm to produce cross-positive maps that are not completely cross-positive is presented.
