Abstract:This letter describes a new multiresolution time-domain scheme which is developed based on Coifman compactly supported scaling functions with a number of vanishing moments. The highly linear dispersion properties of this scheme are investigated and two-dimensional and three-dimensional scattering problems are analyzed in order to demonstrate the advantages of this scheme over conventional finite difference time-domain schemes with respect to memory requirements and computing time.

Abstract:In this paper we consider the Hölder continuity, local linearity, linear independence, and interpolation problem of theM-band scaling function, with a filter having vanishing moments two and minimal length. In particular, we find some new properties that are not true whenM=2, such as local linearity, local linear dependence, differentiability at adjointM-adic points, and interpolation problem at integer knots.

Abstract:In this paper, a new method is presented for designing M-band biorthogonal symmetric wavelets. The design problem of biorthogonal linear-phase scaling filters and wavelet filters as a quadratic programming problem with the linear constraints is formulated. The closed-form solution is given and a design example is presented.

Abstract:Codebooks (also called signal sets) meeting the Welch bound on the maximum correlation amplitude are called MWBE codebooks and are desirable in code-division multiple-access systems. Two different but related constructions of MWBE codebooks from difference sets were developed by Xia and Ding recently. The objectives of this correspondence are to present a generic construction of MWBE codebooks that contains the previous two constructions as special cases and describe new MWBE codebooks that cannot be produced by the earlier two constructions.

Abstract:In this paper, we first establish an L-2-type Dolbeault isomorphism for logarithmic differential forms by Hrmander's L-2 estimates. By using this isomorphism and the construction of smooth Hermitian metrics, we obtain a number of new vanishing theorems for sheaves of logarithmic differential forms on compact Kahler manifolds with simple normal crossing divisors, which generalize several classical vanishing theorems, including Norimatsu's vanishing theorem, Girbau's vanishing theorem, Le Potier's vanishing theorem, and a version of the Kawamata-Viehweg vanishing theorem.

Abstract:This paper investigates the buckling of thin-walled cantilevers. Two different theories available in the literature are discussed, and a new one is presented which takes into account the nonlinear shear strain energy and the nonlinear transverse normal strain energy. The latter strain energy term has been ignored by previous researchers Comparison is made in this paper between the results of the present theory and those of previous experimental results for cantilevers with monosymmetrical sections. It is found that the results of the present theory is in a good agreement with experimental ones, and great discrepances are found between the theory neglecting the nonlinear transverse normal strain energy and the experimental results. Cantilevers with doubly symmetrical sections under uniform moment, uniformly transverse distributed load and concentrated load at free end are analyzed, respectively. Accurate and simple formulae for predicting the critical moments are proposed in which the effects of the load acting position are included.

Abstract:Wavelets with trigonometric vanishing moments are studied for the first time. A practical construction algorithm of multivariate orthonormal wavelets with trigonometric vanishing moments is proposed. Based on such construction algorithm, a tight frame of L-2 (R-d) can be obtained even at the worst case. An example of construction of bivariate orthonormal wavelets providing concrete trigonometric vanishing moments is presented.

Abstract:The symmetric biorthogonal low-pass filters of 4-band and the corresponding scaling functions are constructed by using the sum rules.Also,the symmetric or anti-symmetric biorthogonal wavelet filters of 4-band with high order vanishing moment and short support are obtained.Especially,the coefficients of filter constructed are all rational numbers and their denominators are all binary.Therefore,it is very convenient for these filters to be applied.At last,the smoothness index of the scaling functions constructed can be estimated by the method of Hanbin.

Abstract:This paper presents an algebraic approach to construct M-band orthonormal wavelet bases with perfect reconstruction. We first derive the system of constraint equations of M-band filter banks, and then an algebraic solution based on matrix decomposition is developed. The structure of the solutions is presented, and practical construction procedures are given. By using this algebraic approach, some well-known K-regular M-band filter banks are constructed. The advantage of our approach is that more flexibility can be achieved, and hence we can select the best wavelet bases for a general purpose or a particular application.

Abstract:This paper discusses algebraic construction methods of finite orthogonal and biorthogonal wavelet filters under vanishing moment constraints, where it gives a set of algebraic constraint equations of orthogonal wavelet filter under one vanishing moment constraint, and Daubechies wavelet filters such as db1, db2, sym2, db3 and sym3 filters are derived from these equations as examples; and it also obtains a set of constraint equations of biorthogonal wavelets under two vanishing moment constraints, (7-5) biorthogonal wavelet filter with (4,2) vanishing moment and (5-3) biorthogonal wavelet filter with (2,2) vanishing moment are derived from these equations as examples.

Abstract:In this paper, we give a new method of constructions of non-tensor product wavelets. We start from the one-dimensional scaling functions to directly construct the two-dimensional non-tensor product wavelets. The wavelets constructed by us possess very simple, explicit representations and high regularity, and various symmetry (i.e., axial symmetry, central symmetry, and cyclic symmetry). Using this method, we construct various non-tensor product wavelets and show that there exists a sequence of non-tensor product wavelets with high regularity which tends to the tensor product Shannon wavelet in the L (2)-norm.

Abstract:Two-direction multiscaling functions $\boldphi$ and two-direction multiwavelets $\boldpsi$ associated with $\boldphi$ are a more general and more flexible setting than one-direction multiscaling functions and multiwavelets. In this paper, we derive two methods for computing continuous moments of orthogonal two-direction multiscaling functions $\boldphi$ and orthogonal two-direction multiwavelets $\boldpsi$ associated with $\boldphi$. The first method is by doubling and the second method is by separation. Two examples for both methods are given.

Abstract:In this paper I introduce modular symbols for Maass wave cusp forms. They appear in the guise of finitely additive functions on the Boolean algebra generated by intervals with non--positive rational ends, with values in analytic functions (pseudo--measures in the sense of [MaMar2]). After explaining the basic issues and analogies in the extended Introduction, I construct modular symbols in the sec. 1 and the related Lévy--Mellin transforms in the sec. 2. The whole paper is an extended footnote to the Lewis--Zagier fundamental study [LZ2].

Abstract:In this paper, we give a parameterization of the class of bivariate symmetric orthonormal scaling functions with filter size $6\times 6$ using the standard dilation matrix 2I. In addition, we give two families of refinable functions which are not orthonormal but have associated tight frames. Finally, we show that the class of bivariate symmetric scaling functions with filter size $8\times 8$ can not have two or more vanishing moments.
