Abstract:In the first part of this paper, we construct mod 2 elliptic genera on manifolds of dimensions 8k+1, 8k+2 by mod 2 index formulas of Dirac operators. They are given by mod 2 modular forms or mod 2 automorphic functions. We also obtain an integral formula for the mod 2 index of the Dirac operator. As a by-product we find topological obstructions to group actions. In the second part, we construct higher elliptic genera and prove some of their rigidity properties under group actions. In the third part we write down characteristic series for all Witten genera by Jacobi theta-functions. The modular property and transformation formulas of elliptic genera then follow easily. We shall also prove that Krichever's genera, which come from integrable systems, can be written as indices of twisted Dirac operators forSU-manifolds. Some general discussions about elliptic genera are given.

In this paper, we prove that the set of vertices of the p-modular character degree graph of G is contained in the set of vertices of the p-regular conjugacy class graph of G. Under some condition, an edge of the p-modular character degree graph of G is also an edge of the p-regular conjugacy class graph of G.

Abstract:In this paper, we characterize the finite solvable groups with non-complete character degree graphs by proving the following theorem, which generalizes a conjecture by Huppert. Suppose that G is a finite solvable group and p is a prime number dividing the degree of some irreducible character of G. If there is another such prime number q such that pq does not divide the degree of any irreducible character of G, then both p-length lp(G) and q-length lq(G) of G are at most two, and lp(G)+ lq(G)=4 if and only if pq=6 with QG/Zφ(QG)≅ 32:GL(2,3), where QG is generated by all Sylow 2-subgroups of G and Zφ(G) is a normal nilpotent subgroup of G. Moreover, the bounds are best possible.

Abstract:Let G be a finite group, let Irr ( G ) be the set of all complex irreducible characters of G and let cd ( G ) be the set of all degrees of characters in Irr(G). Let ρ(G) be the set of all primes that divide some degrees in cd(G). The character degree graph Δ(G) of G is the simple undirected graph with vertex set ρ(G) and in which two distinct vertices p and q are adjacent if there exists a character degree r∈cd(G) such that r is divisible by the product pq . In this paper we obtain a necessary condition for the character degree graph Δ(G) of a solvable group G to be eulerian. We also prove that every n – 2 regular graph on n vertices where n is even and n≥4 is the character degree graph of some solvable group. In the last part of the paper we give a bound for the number of Eulerian character degree graphs in terms of number of vertices.

Abstract:The structure of the character degree graphs $\Delta(G)$, i.e. the prime graphs on the set $\mathrm{cd}(G)$ of the irreducible character degrees of a finite group $G$, such that $G$ is solvable and $\Delta(G)$ has diameter three, remains an intriguing area of study. However, a comprehensive understanding of these structures remains elusive. In this paper, we prove some properties and provide an infinite series of examples of this class of graphs, building on the ideas of Mark Lewis.

Abstract:Let p be a prime, χ denote the Dirichlet character modulo p and $$L(p)=\{a\in {\mathbb{Z}}^{+}|(a,p)=1,a\bar{a}\equiv 1(\bmod\ p),|a-\bar{a}|\le H\}$$. We study the distribution of elements in the set L(p) in character over the short interval. In this paper, we use the analytic method and show the distribution property of$$ \sum\limits_{n\le N\atop n\in L(p)}\chi(n), $$and give a non-trivial estimate.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite solvable group and let $\Delta(G)$ be the character degree graph of $G$. In this paper, we obtain the metric dimension of certain character degree graphs. Specifically, we calculate the metric dimension for a regular character degree graph, a character degree graph with a diameter of $2$ that is not a block, a character degree graph with a diameter of $3$ that also has a cut vertex and a character degree graph with Fitting height $2.$ We also consider two related parameters, base size and adjacency dimension, and their relation to metric dimension for character degree graphs of solvable groups.

In this paper, we prove that the irreducible character degrees of a 5-group ğ��o of maximal class are almost determined by the irreducible character degrees of the major centralizer G 1 and show that the set of irreducible character degrees of a 5-group of maximal class is either { 1 , 5 , 5 3 } or { 1 , 5 , â€¦ , 5 k } with k â‰¥ 1 .

Abstract:If a group $G$ is $\pi$-separable, where $\pi$ is a set of primes, the set of irreducible characters $\operatorname{B}_{\pi}(G) \cup \operatorname{B}_{\pi'}(G)$ can be defined. In this paper, we prove that there are variants of some classical theorems in character theory, namely the Theorem of Ito-Michler and Thompson theorem on character degrees, which involve irreducible characters in the set $\operatorname{B}_{\pi}(G) \cup \operatorname{B}_{\pi'}(G)$.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group. The bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible complex character degrees is the undirected graph with vertex set consisting of the prime numbers dividing some character degree and of the non-identity character degrees, where a prime number $p$ is declared to be adjacent to a character degree $m$ if and only if $p$ divides $m$. This graph is bipartite and it encodes two of the most widely studied graphs associated to the character degrees of a finite group: the prime graph and the divisor graph on the set of irreducible character degrees. The scope of this paper is two-fold. We draw some attention to the bipartite divisor graph for the set of irreducible complex character degrees by outlining the main results that have been proved so far. In this process we improve some of these results and we leave some open problems.

Given a prime $p$, we provide a classification of finite groups in which every irreducible complex character has either $p'$-degree or $p'$-codegree.

Abstract:In this paper, we study the genus two G-function which was introduced by Dubrovin, Liu and Zhang for the cubic elliptic orbifold. As results, we first prove the quasi-modularity for the descendant correlation functions of certain type in all genus. Then we prove any derivatives of the genus two G-function of certain type are quasi-modular forms after a mirror transformation. In particular, we compute the explicit closed formula for its certain first derivative. Our proof mainly relies on two techniques: Givental quantization formalism for semisimple Frobenius manifold and the tautological relations on the moduli space of stable curves.

Abstract:Let F be a finite field of q elements. In this paper we obtain several estimates on character sums derived from the Riemann hypothesis for curves over F. In particular, we establish an estimate on twisted generalized Kloosterman sums as conjectured by P. Deligne (1977, “Cohomologieétale (SGA 4½),” Lecture Notes in Mathemmatics, Vol. 569, Springer-Verlag, Berlin/Heidelberg/New York) for the case n = 2: |Σx ∈ N2 χ(x) ψ(x)| ≤ 2q1/2 for all nontrivial characters (χ, ψ) of N2 × F2. Here F2 is a quadratic extension of F and N2 consists of norm 1 (to F) elements in F2. We also present new constructions of Ramanujan graphs based on abelian groups. The character sum estimates are used to prove that these are indeed Ramanujan graphs.

The character-prime graph [math] associated to [math] is a simple undirected graph whose vertex set is [math] and there is an edge between two distinct primes [math] and [math] if and only if the product [math] divides some character degree of [math]. We show that the finite nonabelian simple groups [math], [math], [math], [math], [math] and [math] are uniquely determined by their degree-patterns and orders.

Abstract:Let $G$ be a finite group, and $\pi$ be a set of primes. The $\pi$-core $\mathbf{O}_\pi(G)$ is the unique maximal normal $\pi$-subgroup of $G$, and $b(G)$ is the largest irreducible character degree of $G$. In 2017, Qian and Yang proved that if $H$ is a solvable $\pi$-subgroup of $G$, then $|H\mathbf{O}_\pi(G)/\mathbf{O}_\pi(G)|\le b(G)^3$. In this paper, we improve the exponent of $3$ to $3\log_{504}(168)<2.471$.

Abstract:The small Davenport constant ${\mathsf{d}}(G)$ of a finite group $G$ is defined to be the maximal length of a sequence over $G$ which has no non-trivial product-one subsequence. In this paper, we prove that ${\mathsf{d}}(G) = 6$ for the non-abelian group of order $27$ and exponent $3$ and thereby establish a conjecture by Gao and Zhuang for this group.

Abstract:The intersection numbers of moduli spaces of stable curves $\overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,m}$ are well-studied and are known to have rich combinatorial structure. We introduce a natural class of these intersection numbers $\omega_{G,g,m}$ indexed by finite simple graphs $G=(V,E)$. In genus zero, these numbers are closely related to several previously-studied quantities, including maximum likelihood degrees in algebraic statistics, counts of regions of certain hyperplane arrangements, and Kapranov degrees. We give two proofs of a simple closed formula $\omega_{G,g,m}=(-1)^{\left\lvert V \right\rvert}\chi_G(-(2g-2+m)),$ where $\chi_G$ is the chromatic polynomial of $G$ -- one proof via intersection theory on moduli spaces of stable curves, and the other using the theory of hyperplane arrangements. We discuss several related questions and speculations, including new candidates for the chromatic polynomial of a directed graph.

Abstract:Paley graphs form a nice link between the distribution of quadratic residues and graph theory. These graphs possess remarkable properties which make them useful in several branches of mathematics. Classically, for each prime number $p$ we can construct the corresponding Paley graph using quadratic and non-quadratic residues modulo $p$. Therefore, Paley graphs are naturally associated with the Legendre symbol at $p$ which is a quadratic Dirichlet character of conductor $p$. In this article, we introduce the generalized Paley graphs. These are graphs that are associated with a general quadratic Dirichlet character. We will then provide some of their basic properties. In particular, we describe their spectrum explicitly. We then use those generalized Paley graphs to construct some new families of Ramanujan graphs. Finally, using special values of $L$-functions, we provide an effective upper bound for their Cheeger number.
