Abstract:Nano-, bio-, and information-science and technology constitute the most important and influential three research fields in the beginning of 21st century. In the nanometer scale, the above three fields are closely related to each other; and the cooperation among scientists of physics, chemistry, mechanics, materials science, biology, and microelectronics has become more necessary than ever before. Initiated and supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the Symposium of Young Scientists on Physical Mechanics and Multidisciplinary Problems in Nanotechnology was held in Beijing during October 18-20, 2002. This article reviews the background and motivation of this symposium, gives the main contents of the 31 invited lectures, and summarizes the comments and suggestions of the participants on issues such as the multidisciplinary cooperation.

Abstract:The First ISMTE Asian Conference Review is divided into two papers:Best Practices in Scholarly Publishing:Review of the First ISMTE Asian Conference (hereafter Review Ⅰ) and Review Ⅱ.Review Ⅰ refers to publishing ethics,open access,monitoring publishing data,and evaluation metrics.Review Ⅱ reviews the other conference topics including resources for scholarly publishing,publishing technology and platform,emerging standards as best practices in scholarly publishing,system managing for submission and peer review,publication services for authors,and operation of editorial office,etc.It is hoped that the reviews will provide some reference and inspiration for the development of academic journals publishing and the Second ISMTE Asian-Pacific Conference in Beijing.

Abstract:Abstract The human body represents a collection of interacting systems that range in scale from nanometers to meters. Investigations from a systems perspective focus on how the parts work together to enact changes across spatial scales, and further our understanding of how systems function and fail. Here, we highlight systems approaches presented at the 2022 Summer Biomechanics, Bio-engineering, and Biotransport Conference in the areas of solid mechanics; fluid mechanics; tissue and cellular engineering; biotransport; and design, dynamics, and rehabilitation; and biomechanics education. Systems approaches are yielding new insights into human biology by leveraging state-of-the-art tools, which could ultimately lead to more informed design of therapies and medical devices for preventing and treating disease as well as rehabilitating patients using strategies that are uniquely optimized for each patient. Educational approaches can also be designed to foster a foundation of systems-level thinking.

Abstract:As the frontier of biomechanics research,cellular and molecular biomechanics is an interdisciplinary research field at the cutting edge of applied mechanics and life science and biology,which brings us many challenging problems to the current theories and techniques in biomechanics due to its importance and complexity.This paper will give a brief review on several of these challenging problems and make some comments on the papers included in this special issue,such as the mechanical properties and modeling methods of cell,the modeling of mechanochemical couplig and multiscale modeling methods in cell mechanics,so as to stimulate the common interest within not only the biomechanics but also the applied mechanics community.

Abstract:As a rapidly developing area in biomechanics,mechanics of biological materials aims to investigate the fundamental relationship between functions,properties,structures,and compositions of various natural biological materials at different length scales and the underlying physical mechanisms through experimental research and theoretical analysis,and to provide inspirations from the splendid living world for the biomimetic design of new materials.In this paper,some recent achievements,mainly made by Chinese scholars in this field,are briefly reviewed,including the stiffening and toughening mechanisms of such biological composites as nacres and horns,the relation between the surface wetting behavior and the micro/nanostructures,and some relevant biomimetic applications as well.The contents of seven invited papers published in this special issue are also introduced.

Abstract:We briefly summarize the history of the rise of comparative physiology in China, the research work focused on by domestic and international counterparts in the field of comparative physiology of China, and international academic exchange and collaboration during this period. We also introduce some of the interesting model systems used in past and current research. Abstract:Sports biomechanics is one of the most fascinating and formalised disciplines in sports science. While it uses a host of methods, on closer look, it lacks a thorough epistemological / methodological foundation besides what it implicitly borrows from the sciences it uses, such as mathematics and physics. Here, I shall attempt to portray what such a basic epistemological understanding would include and also try to address issues directly related to such an approach. I shall start by describing the most general context in which sports biomechanics exist and then, I will attempt to provide a structural context to bridge the gap between sports biomechanics and practice. Concluding with some ideas about the future of biomechanics.

Abstract:The 13th National Postgraduates Symposium on Environmental and Occupational Medicine was held successfully in School of Public Health,Fudan University from November 5 to 8,2017.The symposium was sponsored by the Editorial Board of the Journal of Environmental and Occupational Medicine (JEOM),School of Public Health,Fudan University,and Shanghai Preventive Medicine Association.About 130 participants from nationwide universities and research institutes were in attendance and 66 outstanding articles were received.The theme for the symposium was From research to intervention:Healing the schism.The contents of this symposium contained expert reports,postgraduate reports,group academic exchange,guest lecture,etc.The experts and the graduate students had a good communication at the meeting,and the atmosphere was very warm.JEOM and Shanghai Municipal Center for Diseases Control and Prevention extended their reach in teachers and students and the meeting laid a solid foundation for attracting more potential authors and high-quality articles.
Visualization Analysis On Research Hotspot About International Sports Biomechanics

Abstract:Objective: To analyze the research hotspot of international sports biomechanics within the last 5 years and further provides some valuable conclusions and findings to researchers, manager, decision-makers, and other people. Methods: By adopting SCIE, SSCI, and A&HCI in the Web of Science as the data source, the author used the CiteSpace II software to make visual analysis for 520 sports bioniechanics literatures published from 2008 to 2012 and their references, and further demonstrate the results by scientometrics. Results: By analyzing the node types, such as the country/keyword/term/cited reference with the CiteSpace II, the results show that the research on sports biomechanics is mainly in developed countries focusing on biomechanics, neuromuscular control, injury prevention and recovery, and long-term neurologic outcomes by injury. Conclusions: Keeping track of the research hotspots and significant changes will contribute to the development of sports biomechanics.

Abstract:This paper reviews several advances in nanomechanics in the year 2002. With respect to computational nanomechanics, we have surveied the progresses in the structural evolution simulation incorporating mass flow, the quantum effect calculation of strain in nanostructures, and the parallel algorithm under LMPM scheme. With respect to experimental nanomechanics, the attention is focused on the microscopic loading system of a three-dimensional lithographyical technique. Finally, we have reviewed new progresses in the mechanics of nano-crystalline materials, the mechanics of nanotubes, and the mechanics of nano-indentation.
