Abstract:Mesoscopic superposition states of photons can be prepared in three cavities interacting with the same two-level atom. By periodically modulating the three cavity frequencies around the transition frequency of the atom with a 2π/3 phase difference, the time reversal symmetry is broken and an optical circulator is generated with chiralities depending on the quantum state of the atom. A superposition of the atomic states can guide photons from one cavity to a mesoscopic superposition of the other two cavities. The physics can be understood in a finite spin-orbit-coupled Fock-state lattice where the atom and the cavities carry the spin and the orbit degrees of freedom, respectively. This scheme can be realized in circuit QED architectures and provides a new platform for exploring quantum information and topological physics in novel lattices.

After an atom has interacted with a cavity field, initially in a coherent state, it is detected through the Raman coupling. Then the cavity field collapses into a Schrodinger cat state.

Abstract:A simple scheme is presented for generating four-photon entangled states with interaction between a three-level atom and two bimodal cavities.In the proposed protocol,the quantum information is encoded on Fock states of the cavity fields.The detection of the atom can collapse the cavity made/wave function to the desired state.The experimental feasibility of our proposal is also discussed.

Abstract:We propose a scheme for generating maximally GHZ state for four atoms trapped in a two-mode optical cavity via combination of cavity QED and linear optics system. The GHZ state can be not only generated deterministically with a single resonant interaction in cavity QED, but also can be prepared probabilistically based on cavity QED and linear optics elements. The fidelity of the entangled states is not affected by the atomic spontaneous, cavity decay, and imperfection of the photon-detectors. Finally, we briefly analyze and discuss the experimental feasibility of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to generate four-mode multiphoton entangled states by passing N identical atoms through two high-Q cavities in turn. In the case of N=1, the scheme can deterministically generate Einstein-Podosky-Rosen entangled photon pairs. We use adiabatical state evolution under large atom-cavity detuning, so the scheme is insensitive to atomic spontaneous decay. The influence of cavity decay on fidelity and success probability is also discussed.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to engineer quantum superpositions of coherent states ("Schrodinger-cat states") of propagating optical pulses. Multidimensional and multipartite cat states can be generated simply by reflecting coherent optical pulses successively from a single-atom cavity. The influences of various sources of noise, including atomic spontaneous emission and pulse-shape distortion, are characterized through detailed numerical simulation, which demonstrates the practicality of this scheme within the reach of current experimental technology.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to prepare the Bell states for atomic qubits trapped in separate optical cavities via atom-cavity-laser interaction. The quantum information of each qubit is encoded on the degenerate ground states of the atom, so the entanglement between them is relatively stable against spontaneous emission. The proposed scheme consists of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) with two arms, and each arm contains a cavity with an N-type atom in it. It requires two classical fields and a single-photon source. By controlling the sequence and time of atom-cavity-laser interaction, the deterministic production of the atomic Bell states is shown. We also introduce the generalization of the present scheme to generate the 2N-atom Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to generate four Bell states and a four-atom entangled cluster state in a thermal cavity. The photon-number-dependent parts in the effective Hamiltonian are canceled with the assistance of a strong classical field. The cavity field is only virtually excited; no quantum information will be transferred from the atoms to the cavity and thus the scheme is insensitive to the cavity decay and the thermal field. The scheme can also be used to generate the cluster state for the trapped ions.

Abstract:We suggest a technique to induce effective, controllable interactions between atoms that is based on Raman scattering into an optical mode propagating with a slow group velocity. The resulting excitation corresponds to the creation of spin-flipped atomic pairs in a way that is analogous to correlated photon emission in optical parametric amplification. The technique can be used for fast generation of entangled atomic ensembles, spin squeezing, and applications in quantum information processing.

Abstract:In this paper, we propose an optical scheme to generate four-mode W-type entangled coherent states (ECSs) in free travelling optical fields by using a single-photon source, coherent state sources, beam splitters, photodetectors and cross-Kerr media. Our scheme consists of a symmetric optical setup in which there are two Mach–Zehnder interferometers in which each arm contains a cross-Kerr medium. We calculate the average fidelity of generated W-type ECSs, the success probability of producing four-mode W-type ECSs and the average fidelity of the generated four-mode W-type ECSs. It is indicated that our protocol is nearly deterministic.

Abstract:For optical Raman coherent effect we introduce the atomic coherent state (or the angular momentum coherent state with various angular momemtum values) in Schwinger bosonic realization, they are the eigenvectors of the Hamiltonian describing the Raman effect. Similar to the fact that the photon coherent state describes laser light, the atomic coherent state is related to Raman process.

Abstract:This paper contains a theoretical treatment of a scheme for determining phase-dependent features of a single mode of quantized light fields in general states. The proposal involves using a three-level atom, in a cascade configuration, as a detector. The cascade atom, which is on two-photon resonance with the field, is prepared in a coherent superposition of the upper and lower levels, and detection involves measuring the probability of the cascade atom being in the upper level. The results depend on the phase difference between the amplitudes for the field being in N and N + 2 photon states in the number state basis, and are important in describing nonclassical states, such as squeezed and Schrodinger cat states. The analysis is based on a standard dressed atom model approach and a Fourier treatment of the measured signal. The experimental possibilities of realizing this scheme are also discussed.

Abstract:The maximally entanglement will become less-entangled state because of the effects of decoherence. However, maximally entangled states are usually important for most of the quantum information processing protocols. So we propose a practical entanglement concentration protocol of an arbitrary four-photon less-entangled state assisted with single photons, which greatly reduces the difficulty of the experimental realization. In our scheme, we only employ three steps, a four-photon cluster state can be acquired with a certain probability by three affiliated photons. The protocol adopts the linear optical elements and weak cross-Kerr media, which make the scheme more simple and feasible in the experiment.

It involves an appropriately prepared atom crossing a high-Q cavity initially filled with a squeezed coherent field. Abstract:We propose an approach to simultaneously excite two atoms by using a cavity-assisted Raman process in combination with a cavity-photon-mediated interaction. The system consists of a two-level atom and a Lambda-type or V-type three-level atom, which are coupled together with a cavity mode. Having derived the effective Hamiltonian, we find that under certain circumstances a single photon can simultaneously excite two atoms. In addition, multiple photons and even a classical field can also simultaneously excite two atoms. As an example, we show a scheme to realize our proposal in a circuit QED setup, which is artificial atoms coupled with a cavity. The dynamics and the quantum-statistical properties of the process are investigated with experimentally feasible parameters.
