Abstract:Mesoscopic superposition states of photons can be prepared in three cavities interacting with the same two-level atom. By periodically modulating the three cavity frequencies around the transition frequency of the atom with a 2π/3 phase difference, the time reversal symmetry is broken and an optical circulator is generated with chiralities depending on the quantum state of the atom. A superposition of the atomic states can guide photons from one cavity to a mesoscopic superposition of the other two cavities. The physics can be understood in a finite spin-orbit-coupled Fock-state lattice where the atom and the cavities carry the spin and the orbit degrees of freedom, respectively. This scheme can be realized in circuit QED architectures and provides a new platform for exploring quantum information and topological physics in novel lattices.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to implement two-bit quantum phase gates and one-bit unitary gates by using the two-mode two-photon Jaynes-Cummings model. The entanglement between the atom and cavity is also investigated in the presence of phase decoherence. It is found that there is stationary entanglement that is sensitive with the detuning.

After an atom has interacted with a cavity field, initially in a coherent state, it is detected through the Raman coupling. Then the cavity field collapses into a Schrodinger cat state.

Abstract:A scheme to prepare superpositions of squeezed coherent states is presented. It involves an appropriately prepared atom crossing a high-Q cavity initially filled with a squeezed coherent field. After the nonresonant interaction with the cavity field the detection of the atomic state leaves the cavity field in a superposition of two squeezed coherent states.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to engineer quantum superpositions of coherent states ("Schrodinger-cat states") of propagating optical pulses. Multidimensional and multipartite cat states can be generated simply by reflecting coherent optical pulses successively from a single-atom cavity. The influences of various sources of noise, including atomic spontaneous emission and pulse-shape distortion, are characterized through detailed numerical simulation, which demonstrates the practicality of this scheme within the reach of current experimental technology.

Abstract:We propose a method to produce superpositions of displaced Fock states via the driven Jaynes - Cummings model. We introduce the dressed-atom representation of the driven Jaynes - Cummings model to investigate the evolution of the state of the system. When the cavity field is in an initial coherent state ( is the amplitude of the classical driving field and g is the coupling constant between the atom and the cavity field), the evolution of the state of the system is similar to the vacuum Rabi oscillation of the normal Jaynes - Cummings model. After a period of interaction, the superposition of displaced Fock states of the cavity field can be generated by a state-selective measurement on the atom.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to generate four Bell states and a four-atom entangled cluster state in a thermal cavity. The photon-number-dependent parts in the effective Hamiltonian are canceled with the assistance of a strong classical field. The cavity field is only virtually excited; no quantum information will be transferred from the atoms to the cavity and thus the scheme is insensitive to the cavity decay and the thermal field. The scheme can also be used to generate the cluster state for the trapped ions.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to prepare the Bell states for atomic qubits trapped in separate optical cavities via atom-cavity-laser interaction. The quantum information of each qubit is encoded on the degenerate ground states of the atom, so the entanglement between them is relatively stable against spontaneous emission. The proposed scheme consists of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) with two arms, and each arm contains a cavity with an N-type atom in it. It requires two classical fields and a single-photon source. By controlling the sequence and time of atom-cavity-laser interaction, the deterministic production of the atomic Bell states is shown. We also introduce the generalization of the present scheme to generate the 2N-atom Greenberger-Horne-Zeilinger state.

Abstract:We present a simple scheme to realize a highly controlled and selective atom-field interaction in cavity quantum electrodynamics system. It is shown that, based on such a selective interaction, nontrivial Dicke states of N trapped neutral atoms can be produced step by step in an optical cavity with a very high fidelity in the presence of the cavity decay. The scheme does not need a single-photon source and its injection into an optical cavity, and the atomic spontaneous emission is strongly suppressed due to a large atom-field detuning.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to prepare the superposition of an even coherent state and a vacuum state, which shows strong squeezing. An atom crossing a high Q cavity prepares the field in a superposition of a coherent state and a vacuum state. This field state can be transformed into the superposition of an even coherent state and a vacuum state by another nonresonant atom sent across the cavity.

Abstract:We propose a scheme for generating maximally GHZ state for four atoms trapped in a two-mode optical cavity via combination of cavity QED and linear optics system. The GHZ state can be not only generated deterministically with a single resonant interaction in cavity QED, but also can be prepared probabilistically based on cavity QED and linear optics elements. The fidelity of the entangled states is not affected by the atomic spontaneous, cavity decay, and imperfection of the photon-detectors. Finally, we briefly analyze and discuss the experimental feasibility of the proposed scheme.

Abstract:We propose a scheme to generate four-mode multiphoton entangled states by passing N identical atoms through two high-Q cavities in turn. In the case of N=1, the scheme can deterministically generate Einstein-Podosky-Rosen entangled photon pairs. We use adiabatical state evolution under large atom-cavity detuning, so the scheme is insensitive to atomic spontaneous decay. The influence of cavity decay on fidelity and success probability is also discussed.

Abstract:We present a simple scheme for the probabilistic generation of the n-qubit W state of three-level systems in cavity quantum electrodynamics. Once the W state is prepared, it will be insensitive to the spontaneous emission of atoms due to the fact that only the two degenerate ground states of the three-level atoms are involved. With time evolution of the system, the success probability and the experimental feasibility are also discussed.
