Abstract:Fifteen new ferrocene derivatives containing 1H-1,2,4-triazole moiety were synthesized in various yields by the condensation of ferrocenecarboxaldehyde with 1-aryl-3-(1H-1,2,4-triazo-1-yl)-propen-1-ones in toluene. Their structures have been confirmed by H-1 NMR, IR, MS and elemental analysis. In addition, the crystal structure of 41 was determined. The antifungal and plant growth regulatory activities of the title compounds are discussed. Copyright (c) 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Abstract:A series of novel 5-alkyl-2-ferrocenyl-6,7-dihydropyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrazin-4(5H)-one derivatives were synthesized by the reaction of ethyl 1-(2-bromoethyl)-3-ferrocenyl-1H-pyrazole-5-carboxylate with non-aromatic primary amines in one-pot procedure and characterized by IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, HRMS and X-ray diffraction analysis. The effects of all the compounds on A549 cell growth were investigated. The results showed that all compounds had almost inhibitory effects on the growth of A549 cells.

Abstract:In recent years, transition-metal-catalyzed C-H functionalization has gradually developed into a powerful tool for the synthesis of ferrocenes in an atom- and step-economic fashion. However, despite significant achievements, the vast majority of these C-H functionalizations required precious 4d or 5d transition metal catalysts. The use of inexpensive and sustainable 3d metals in the C-H functionalization of ferrocenes remains challenging, especially the development of asymmetric versions. Herein, we summarize the remarkable recent progress in the synthesis of ferrocenes by 3d transition metal-catalyzed C-H activation until December 2021.

Abstract:Ferrocene-based polymers have wide application prospect in various fields such as electrochemistry, biomedicine, optics and so on, because of their unique structures and properties. The synthesis and exploration of the application of the ferrocene-based polymers have become a hot topic. In this review, we mainly focus on the synthesis and applications of the main-chain ferrocene-based polymers or side-chain ferrocene-based polymers. For synthesis of main-chain ferrocene-based polymers, polycondensation reaction, ring-opening polymerization and other synthetic methods have been summarized. For synthesis of side-chain ferrocene-based polymers, free radical polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) method, reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization have been applied. Finally, the future applications of ferrocene-based materials are prospected.

Abstract:Ferrocenyl-based compounds have many applications in diverse scientific disciplines, including in polymer chemistry as redox dynamic polymers and dendrimers, in materials science as bioreceptors, and in pharmacology, biochemistry, electrochemistry, and nonlinear optics. Considering the horizon of ferrocene chemistry, we attempted to condense the neoteric advancements in the synthesis and applications of ferrocene derivatives reported in the literature from 2016 to date. This paper presents data on the progression of the synthesis of diverse classes of organic compounds having ferrocene scaffolds and recent developments in applications of ferrocene-based organometallic compounds, with a special focus on their biological, medicinal, bio-sensing, chemosensing, asymmetric catalysis, material, and industrial applications.

Abstract:It has been known since the 1990s that the introduction of a ferrocenyl–type substituent into compounds with proven biological activity can improve their properties. More recently, it was also shown that a carbon bridge connecting the two cyclopentadienyl rings in ferrocene derivatives could enhance the biological properties of the new compounds compared to those without them. However, the synthesis of ferrocenes with this additional linker, known as ansa–ferrocenes, is more difficult due to advanced synthetic protocols and the phenomenon of planar chirality in ring–substituted compounds. As a result, research into the formation of hybrids, conjugates and other ansa–ferrocene derivatives has not been widely conducted. This review discusses the potential biological properties of these units, covering scientific articles published between 1980 and 2024.

Abstract:Recently, we designed and synthesized a series of chiral ferrocenes and cyclophanes with and without planar chirality. In this review, our own work on the, applications of these ligands in transition-metal catalyzed enantioselective carbon–carbon bond forming reactions, including asymmetric allylic substitution reactions of ketone imino esters, enolates of simple ketone and mono substituted allyl substrates, intermolecular Heck reaction of dihydrofuran and pyrrol, addition reactions of diethylzinc to carbonyl derivatives are presented with emphasis on the regio- and enantioselectivities of the reactions. The role of planar chirality of ferrocenes and cyclophanes as well as some of their structural features influence the reactivity and enantioselectivity in asymmetric catalysis are also discussed.

Abstract:In the past decades, a lot of ferrocene (Fc) derivatives have been synthesized and used in many different applications. In addition, Fc-containing polymers have emerged, as an important class of the metal-containing polymers, with unique electrical, magnetic and optical properties and thus much considerable attention has been paid for the application of these polymer systems. These Fc-containing polymers have many different applications such as amperometric biosensors, immunosensors for proteins, DNA and hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) and carbon monoxide sensors and also they can be used for the fabrication of optical logic gates. This paper reviews the recent progress in the synthetic methodologies, functionalization and the applications of Fc-based polymers as well as some Fc derivatives.

Abstract:A new route to ferrocene indanone derivatives has been developed via the trinuclear N-heterocyclic carbene palladium(II)-catalyzed carbonylative C-C bond formation. Under a CO atmosphere, using o-bromoarylferrocene as substrate, this reaction proceeded smoothly to give the desired products in moderate to excellent yields within hours.

Abstract:Aromatic azobenzene derivatives are outstanding organic photochromic compounds that possess unique photochemical properties. These compounds are widely used in research and development for various applications, especially in information storage, owing to their ability to isomerize between cis (Z) and trans (E) forms under the influence of light of different wavelengths. On account of these advantages, many efforts have been made to generalize the use of azobenzene derivatives. Furthermore, ferrocene‐based polymers and derivatives are promising candidates for functional materials due to their unique redox properties. By interlinking ferrocene with azobenzene, novel functional materials can be obtained that will integrate the excellent properties of both and will provide new applications in various fields including information storage, ion recognition, molecular devices, etc. This article provides an overview of the synthesis, properties and applications of novel ferrocene‐based polymers and derivatives containing azobenzene units. Abstract:Novel C2-symmetric bisoxazoline ligands 5 with a ferrocene backbone and a hydroxyl group at the substituent of the oxazoline ring were designed and prepared. With these ligands, up to 94% ee was obtained for the alkylation of arylaldehyde with diethylzinc.
