Abstract:The present study determined the effect of the addition of sodium percarbonate at various concentrations into the sea cucumber aquaculture waters on the benthic environment.Sodium percarbonate was added at 5 concentrations, i.e., 0 (control) , 0.50, 0.75, 1.5, 3.0 and 6.0 mg/L.Specific growth rate of sea cucumber and 5 physio-chemical parameters of the benthic sediment were measured. The results revealed that the sea cucumber in 0.75 mg/L group showed the highest specific growth rate;the highest Eh value of sediment appeared in 1.5 mg/L group, which was significantly different from that of control (P<0.05) ;the nitrate nitrogen in sediment reached the peak in 1.5 mg/L group, which was significantly different from that of control (P<0.05) ;and ammonium and nitrite nitrogen reached the minimums in 1.5 mg/L group, which were significantly different from those of control (P<0.05) .In conclusion, sodium percarbonate can most effectively improve the benthic condition and promote the growth of sea cucumber at 0.75 mg/L.
