Abstract:Sea cucumber(Apostichopus japonicus) juveniles with body length of 1.0~2.0 mm were stocked into 40 L plastic tanks at a rate of 150 individuals/tank and fed the mixed diets of various proportion of Sargassum thanbergii fluid(St) or flour, yeast(Y) and formulated feed(FF) at various feeding rates at(22.8±1.5)℃ with tetraplication. The animals were fed the diets containing 98.0 % St,2.0% Y,0% FF(Group 1);95.0% St,0% Y,5.0% FF(Group 2);30.0% St,5.0% Y,65.0% FF(Group 3);60.0% St,5.0% Y,35.0% FF(Group 4);90.0% St,5.0% Y,5.0% FF(Group 5)at a feeding rate of 360.7%~107.1% for 86 days. From Group 6 to Group 10,the sea cucumbers were fed the diet containing 60.0% St,5.0% Y,35.0% FF at a feeding rate as large as 1/4,1/2,1.0,5/4 and 3/2 times that in Group 4.The results showed that there was no significant difference in growth and survival in the juveniles fed different diets in first month experiment. In the middle and later experiment, however, the juveniles in Group 3 had significant better growth and higher survival than the juveniles in other groups did.In the first period of the second experiment, the animals had increase in growth with increase in feeding rate.In the middle and later experiment, however, there was no direct relationship between the growth and feeding rate. The best growth of the juveniles was observed in Group 9 and the lowest survival occurred in Groups 6 and 7.There were increase in ammonia levels and decrease in dissolved oxygen levels with increasing feeding rate. The optimal feeding regime is suggested for sea cucumber juvenile rearing based on our experiment.
