Abstract:With the fast development of video and voice network applications, CDN (content distribution networks) and P2P (peer-to-peer) content distribution technologies have gradually matured. How to effectively use Internet resources thus has attracted more and more attention. For resource pricing, a whole pricing strategy covers all related topics, including pricing models, service mechanisms and pricing methods. We first introduce three basic Internet resource pricing models through Internet cost analysis. Then, with the evolution of service types, we introduce several corresponding mechanisms which can ensure pricing implementation and resource allocation. On network resource pricing methods, we discuss utility optimization in economics, and emphasize two classes of pricing methods (including system optimization and entities’ strategic optimizations). Finally, we conclude the paper and forecast future directions.

Abstract:In the context of Web 2.0, the interaction between users and resources is more and more frequent in the process of resource sharing and consumption. However, the current research on resource pricing mainly focuses on the attributes of the resource itself, and does not weigh the interests of the resource sharing participants. In order to deal with these problems, the pricing mechanism of resource-user interaction evaluation based on multi-agent game theory is established in this paper. Moreover, the user similarity, the evaluation bias based on link analysis and punishment of academic group cheating are also included in the model. Based on the data of 181 scholars and 509 articles from the Wanfang database, this paper conducts 5483 pricing experiments for 13 months, and the results show that this model is more effective than other pricing models - the pricing accuracy of resource resources is 94.2%, and the accuracy of user value evaluation is 96.4%. Besides, this model can intuitively show the relationship within users and within resources. The case study also exhibits that the user's knowledge level is not positively correlated with his or her authority. Discovering and punishing academic group cheating is conducive to objectively evaluating researchers and resources. The pricing mechanism of scientific and technological resources and the users proposed in this paper is the premise of fair trade of scientific and technological resources.

Abstract:After referring to the IP-DiffServ adaptive pricing mechanism of NSF CAREER, this paper presents an optimal adaptive resource pricing mechanism on the base of market and plan. Based on the service plan and service layout, it prices the service class by providing the users more performances with lower cost and by making ISP win the most benefits. While calculating user perceived benefit, the burden factor is taken into account, then it can lead to an orderly distributed traffic according to the service plan. Experimental results indicate that the improvement to the value evaluation formula of service class of NSF CARRER is reasonable and effective.

Abstract:This paper studies the influence of two different Internet pricing schemes on the internet consumption by the means of simulation.In the Internet supply market,we establish a Bertrand duopoly game model:one Internet Service Provider(ISP)with flat-rate pricing scheme for its service and the other ISP with two-part pricing scheme-fixed access fee plus usage fee.Based on the survey data of SSIC,we create the Internet expenditure and consumption time of each consumer using random number generation method,simulate the consumption choices under different pricing schemes,and then analyze the effect of pricing strategies on the revenue of ISP,the consumers' consumption behavior and the total social welfare.

Abstract:Based on the current model of Internet subscription fees,we extract three kinds of Internet pricing structure model to investigate the profit distribution between the local Internet service provider(ISP)and the user.First,using a simple model for the Qos requirement,we obtain the objective function of ISP and the user,and demonstrate that the cooperative game may provide a better solution for both sides.Moreover,the Nash bargaining solution(NBS)is related to relative bargaining power of both sides.Then,from the view of social structure theory,we show that bargaining power depends on the type of network structure,as well as players' position in the structure.The one whose relative bargaining power is larger benefits more,and vice versa.Finally,a numerical example is presented to get the NBS of three kinds of Internet pricing structure model.The results show that mergers,acquisitions as well as interconnection help to improve local ISP' relative bargaining power,hence benefit increases.
Online Pricing-based Content Cache Trading for Multi-Provider Vehicular Networks

Abstract:Edge caching has emerged as a prominent paradigm for supporting the needs of contents by pushing storage functionalities to ratio access network (RAN) and alleviates the strain of core network. However, current mainstream small base station (SBS) caching can not adapt to system dynamics due to fixed infrastructures. Mobile network operators (MNOs) attempt to explore the potential of vehicles as content carries to cope with time-varied and location-based demands resulted by mobile environment and improve both of hit rate and QoS (delivery rate) for users’ file requests. Nevertheless, vehicular caching trading policy between MNO and content providers (CPs) arriving in unknown sequence still remains complicated to design since selfish and private CPs may be vicious to contend for limited vehicular capacity to obtain larger profits. To bridge this gap and provide economic insights into vehicular caching, we focus on caching leasing between MNO and CPs and propose a general cache valuation and online pricing framework to realize incentive compatibility, individual rationality, privacy protection and computational efficiency with the target of social welfare maximization. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first work to study the cache trading pattern of vehicular networks. Experimental results based on the ONE simulator substantiate the usefulness and superiority of our scheme in term of social welfare maximization.

Abstract:The paper constructs an Internet information flow optimization model based on revenue management for access service providers in order to increase the revenue.The model regards information package transmission process through Internet as a two stages queue system,and optimizes the total information flow by minimizing the total cost caused by refusing users accessing Internet and network overloading.According to the analysis result of the model,the paper puts forward the suggestion for ASP that how to improve the access service providers' revenue under the guarantee of the users' quality of service from two aspects: access control and transmission service management.

Abstract:The evaluation of Internet QoS (Quality of Service) is naturally multi-discipline. This paper examines the Internet QoS evaluation by integrating QoS index with price factor. The multinomial logit model is adopted in this paper, which is used to model the choice behaviour of users. Each service class is modelled as independently competitive entity. The goal of each service class is to maximize its own utility. Through the analysis based on noncooperative game, the conclusion is drawn that the equilibria exist between QoS index and price of each service class, and the numerical results is provided to verify the conclusion.

Abstract:This paper aims at systematically analyzing the pricing schemes in data center network. The interaction between a monopolistic operator and customers in the network is modeled as Stackelberg game. In this model, both homogeneous- and heterogeneous-customer scenarios are analyzed. In homogeneous customer case, a special scenario is that only a single customer exists in the network. In this scenario, we observe that the Stackelberg equilibrium will lead to a Pareto-inefficient outcome. To address this problem, a two-part pricing scheme is proposed to derive a Pareto efficient outcome and benefit both the operator and customers. When there are an infinite number of homogeneous customers in the network, our analysis shows that customers' selfish action may incur zero utility to them and operator can achieve all the utility by announcing an appropriate price. As to the heterogeneous customer case, we not only analyse how the operator should price the network resources, but also introduce Paris Metro Pricing (PMP) scheme to further increase operator's profit. Since the operator's profit is not a concave function of the resource price, these studies are conducted by simulation.

Abstract:The virtual Internet service providers (ISPs) have changed the connection and economic relationships among ISPs in mobile Internet sponsored markets.Game theory is used to develop a model to study the competition among ISPs and to analyze data allocation,pricing and utility issues for cooperative and non-cooperative games for ISPs in the mobile sponsored market.This paper also presents a revenue allocation mechanism and solves for the optimal allocation factor using the Nash bargaining solution.The results show that the price difference between ISPs increases with the sponsored level and the revenue allocation mechanism encourages the ISPs to adjust their optimized purposes to maximize the social welfare.

Abstract:This paper presents a comprehensive literature review on applications of economic and pricing models for resource management in cloud networking. To achieve sustainable profit advantage, cost reduction, and flexibility in provisioning of cloud resources, resource management in cloud networking requires adaptive and robust designs to address many issues, e.g., resource allocation, bandwidth reservation, request allocation, and workload allocation. Economic and pricing models have received a lot of attention as they can lead to desirable performance in terms of social welfare, fairness, truthfulness, profit, user satisfaction, and resource utilization. This paper reviews applications of the economic and pricing models to develop adaptive algorithms and protocols for resource management in cloud networking. Besides, we survey a variety of incentive mechanisms using the pricing strategies in sharing resources in edge computing. In addition, we consider using pricing models in cloud-based Software Defined Wireless Networking (cloud-based SDWN). Finally, we highlight important challenges, open issues and future research directions of applying economic and pricing models to cloud networking

Abstract:With the rapid deployment of cloud computing infrastructures, understanding the economics of cloud computing has become a pressing issue for cloud service providers. However, existing pricing models rarely consider the dynamic interactions between user requests and the cloud service provider. Thus, the law of supply and demand in marketing is not fully explored in these pricing models. In this paper, we propose a dynamic pricing model based on the concept of user perceived value that accurately captures the real supply and demand relationship in the cloud service market. Subsequently, a profit maximization scheme is designed based on the dynamic pricing model that optimizes profit of the cloud service provider without violating service-level agreement. Finally, a dynamic closed loop control scheme is developed to adjust the cloud service price and multiserver configurations according to the dynamics of the cloud computing environment such as fluctuating electricity and rental fees. Extensive simulations using the data extracted from real-world applications validate the effectiveness of the proposed user perceived value-based pricing model and the dynamic profit maximization scheme. Our algorithm can achieve up to 31.32 percent profit improvement compared to a state-of-the-art approach.

Abstract:Pricing has showed great efficiency as a mechanism for internet congestion control management and internet resource allocation. Based on the information of the real flux of consumers in the internet, this paper proposes a real-time internet pricing scheme-real-time internet pricing scheme based on demand(RIPD). It consists of three parts: fixed access cost, usage cost, congestion cost. Compared with traditional pricing schemes, RIPD is more practical and effective in terms of congestion control and resource allocation.

Abstract:With the development of wireless mobile communication, more and more wireless data services have gradually emerged, calling for effective pricing mechanism due to the nonapplicable traditional one. In this paper, a novel hybrid Diff-SerV pricing method for wireless data services is proposed, which considers radio resources, service characteristics as well as quality of service (QoS). The kernel of our algorithm is to distinguish service types and related the resource cost with QoS level. Therefore, it could be viewed as a method for resources scheduling, which can effectively exploit the scare radio resources to support more service users and meanwhile provide better QoS.

Abstract:Currently, the development of communication technology is very rapid, especially on the internet. Therefore, with the increasing need for the internet, the quality of service must also be improved. This study aims to analyze the sensitivity of the internet pricing scheme model using the modified Cloud Radio Access Network (C-RAN) model with the addition of the fair network traffic management variable and combined with the Constant Elasticity of Substitution (CES) utility function. C-RAN is a centralized radio access network to process signals and send them to the core network where the equipment used is connected to cellular antennas. The improved C-RAN model is modified into 2 cases, each of which has 3 pricing schemes, namely flat-fee, usage-based and two-part tariff, with the provision of initial usage and a predetermined amount of bandwidth consumption. This research data is secondary data obtained from the local server of local server traffic data in Palembang. Based on the analysis that has been done, the results of this study indicate that the improved C-RAN model can be utilized by Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to increase profits. The results of the sensitivity analysis for the improved model show that, if the variable is infinity, the increase and decrease are not fixed, whereas if the variable is 0.000 then the increase and decrease are fixed.

Abstract:As more applications and businesses move to the cloud, pricing for inter-datacenter links has become an important problem. In this paper, we study revenue maximizing pricing from the perspective of a network provider in inter-datacenter networks. Designing a practical bandwidth pricing scheme requires us to jointly consider the requirements of envy-freeness and arbitrage-freeness, where envy-freeness guarantees the fairness of resource allocation and arbitrage-freeness induces users to truthfully reveal their data transfer requests. Considering the non-convexity of the revenue maximization problem and the lack of information about the users' utilities, we propose a framework for computationally efficient pricing to approximately maximize revenue in a range of environments. We first study the case of a single link accessed by many users, and design a (1 + E)-approximation pricing scheme with polynomial time complexity and information complexity. Based on dynamic programming, we then extend the pricing scheme for the tollbooth network, preserving the (1 + E) approximation ratio and the computational complexity. For the general network setting, we analyze the revenue generated by uniform pricing, which determines a single per unit price for all potential users. We show that when users have similar utilities, uniform pricing can achieve a good approximation ratio, which is independent of network topology and data transfer requests. The pricing framework can be extended to multiple time slots, enabling time-dependent pricing.

Abstract:Many researchers have studied the pricing model for expressways with the economic principle of marginal cost pricing. However, there is also much interesting and important work to still do. The objective of this paper is to enhance the insights into the expressway pricing mechanism with elastic demand. We proposed two specific models by considering the scenario under different market conditions, including the monopoly model and the monopolistic competition model. This paper analyzed the differences between the two scenarios. A numerical example is presented in order to illustrate how the pricing policies affect the demand and the social-welfare of the whole transportation system.
