Clinical analysis of postoperative pulmonary infections in patients with anterior mediastinal tumors

Abstract:OBJECTIVE To explore the risk factors for postoperative pulmonary infections in the patients with ante‐rior mediastinal tumors so as to put forward nursing countermeasures to reduce the infection rate .METHODS The clinical data of 278 patients who underwent the anterior mediastinal tumor resection from Jan 2009 to Jan 2014 were retrospectively analyzed ,the incidence of postoperative respiratory tract infections was recorded ,and the risk factors for the pulmonary infections were observed and compared .RESULTS The pulmonary infections occurred in 37 cases with the infection rate of 13 .31% .The incidence of pulmonary infections was 20 .42% among the 142 pa‐tients who had the history of smoking ,while the incidence of postoperative pulmonary infections was 5 .89% a‐mong the patients who did not smoke .The incidence of pulmonary infections was 29 .17% among the 24 patients with postoperative hypoproteinemia and was 11 .8% among the 254 patients without hypoproteinemia .The risk factors for the pulmonary infections included the smoking ,long operation duration ,and postoperative hypopro‐teinemia .CONCLUSION The incidence of postoperative pulmonary infections is low in the patients with anterior mediastinal tumors .There are a variety of risk factors that can result in the pulmonary infections ,and the effective preoperative and postoperative nursing interventions can reduce the incidence of the postoperative pulmonary infec‐tions .
