Epidemiological Investigation of Adult Female Urinary Incontinence in Nanjing

Abstract:Objective:To evaluate the prevalence,the clinical characteristics and associated risk factors of adult female urinary incontinence in Nanjing.Methods:In the cross-sectional study,3 432 women aged over 18 years old from urban field and suburb of Nanjing were investigated with the Asia Pacific Continence Society for female urinary incontinence questionnaire.It was divided into 6 groups every 10 years from 18 years old.SPSS 13.0 and Logistic regression analysis were used to estimate the relations between the incontinence and every factor.Results:Totally 3 320 cases were received.2 891(87.1%) cases were married,and 429(12.9%) cases were unmarried;494(14.9%) cases had no delivery,and 56.6%cases had one delivery,and 16.3%cases two deliveries,6.5%cases three deliveries,4.2%cases four deliveries, 1.1%cases five deliveries,0.4%cases six or more deliveries.The delivery mode of 85.8%cases(2 425 cases) were vaginal delivery,while 401cases(14.2%) were cesarean section or used obstetrical forceps.1407cases(42.4%) were physical laborers,and 1913cases(57.6%) were mental laborers.Cultural level:illiterate 70(2.1%),primary schools 292(8.8%),secondary schools 1 289(38.8%),specialist 1024(30.8%),university 627(18.9%),more than bachelor 18(0.5%).The overall prevalence of adult female urinary incontinence in Nanjing was 29.8%,among theses women,18.9%had stress urinary incontinence,and 2.0%had urge urinary incontinence,and 7.8%had mixed urinary incontinence,and 1.1%had other urinary incontinence.The constituent ratio of stress urinary incontinence(SUI)、urge urinary incontinence(UUI)、mixed urinary incontinence(MUI)、other urinary incontinence(OUI) were 63.4%,6.7%, 26.1%,3.9%.As the age going on,the prevalence of SUI、MUI、OUI increased.Conclusions:The prevalence of adult female urinary incontinence in Nanjing is 29.8%,under the level of other area in China.63.4%of the incontinence women had stress urinary incontinence,which is the major type of the female urinary incontinence.Old,too much parity,vaginal delivery,lower education,higher BMI are potential risk factors for female urinary incontinence.
