Phosphate Mass Removal During Single Hemodialysis

Abstract:Objective To investigate the phosphate mass removal in single hemodialysis treatment and find its influencing factors.Methods Dialysate efflux of 80 patients underwent hemodialysis were collected to measure the phosphorus concentration,and serum phosphate concentrations before and after hemodialysis were also measured.The phosphate mass removal was calculated.Results The phosphate concentration in the dialysate efflux of 37 patients was undetectable (＜ 0.1 mmol/L).The mean phosphate concentration in the dialysate in the remaining 43 patients was(0.170 ± 0.058) mmol/L(0.10-0.39 mmol/ L).The mean phosphate mass removal during single hemodialysis was(19.82 ± 7.00)mmol(11.10-46.41 mmol).The phosphate mass removal was significantly correlated the predialysis serum concentration of phosphate.Conclusions Hemodialysis phosphate removal seems to play a minor role.Low phosphorus diet and phosphate binders using to reduce intestinal phosphate absorption and inhibition of intracellular phosphate efflux should be emphasized during treatment of hyperphosphatemia in hemodialysis patients.
