Abstract:Objective: To investigate the possible association between C-reaction protein (CRP) and atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence after cryoballoon ablation. Methods: Seventy-one AF patients with successful initial cryoballoon ablation were recruited. Serum CRP level was measured before, right after, 7 days after and 3 months after ablation. All patients were followed up for 3 months after ablation for AF recurrence. Clinical, echocardiographic and ablation data were ana-lyzed. Results: Recurrence rate of AF within 3 months after successful cryoballoon ablation was 35.2%. The patients with AF recurrence had an older age[(58.2±9.3) years vs (47.6±8.5) years], lower percentage of lone AF(47.9%vs 69.3%), longer AF history [(70.6±27.2) months vs (31.3±22.1) months], larger left atrial diameter (LAD) [(46.5±4.0) mm vs (41.3±2.6) mm], and higher baseline CRP level [(14.3±5.3) mg/L vs (7.5±2.3) mg/L] with maintaining at a higher level for 3 months (P<0.05). Multivariate analysis showed that LAD (OR=1.20, 95%CI:0.9-1.0, P=0.01),AF history (OR=1.17, 95%CI:1.0-1.1, P=0.04)and baseline CRP level (OR=2.78, 95%CI: 1.3-1.7, P=0.03) were independent predictors of AF recurrence after ablation. Conclusions:Baseline CRP level before cyroballoon ablation is an independent risk factor for AF recurrence after cyroballoon ablation, which may provide some useful information for selection of AF patients for cyrobal-loon ablation.
