Effects Evaluation of Diabetes Patient Education on Blood Glucose and Medical Care Cost in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of patient education on blood glucose control and medical care cost for diabetes.Methods 179 type 2 diabetic patients were selected and followed up in our clinic,of which,94 had received diabetes education for at least two times,while the other 85 had never or only received it for one time.All the patients answered the same questionnaire on diabetes and cost.Results The blood glucose level was significantly lower in the educated group than the uneducated group(P0.05),while there was no significant difference between the two groups as to therapy cost.Conclusions With diabetes patient education,better blood glucose control can be achieved in diabetic patients at the same cost.
