Management of recurrent nodal disease in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer

Abstract:Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) usually has a good prognosis, however, it is also an easily recurrent malignancy after initial treatment .Recurrences of DTC , including biochemical and structural disease, would cause physiopsychological and financial burdens for patients .In the meantime, it complicates the treatment decision-making for clinicians .Different from initial treatment , there are more factors that should be taken into consideration when managing recurrent diseases , such as more biological information available of primary tumor and lymph nodes , patients ’ factors, risk of reoperation and other treatment options.On the one hand, it is recommended to dissect all the lesions to reduce the chance of multiple recurrences , on the other hand , function and quality of life of patients should be carefully conserved .How to balance these two sides and how to manage the recurrence to benefit patients as much as possible deserve to be discussed profoundly .
