Analysis of Postoperative Urinary Complications Occurred in Patients with Cervical Carcinomas

Abstract:Objective To investigate postoperative urinary complications occurred in patients with cervical carcinomas.Methods We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of all patients with cervical carcinoma treated at Peking University First Hospital from January of 1968 to January of 2002.Results The average age of the 155 patients was 44.19±10.72,with cervical cancer of FIGO stage 0 to stage Ⅳ b. 142 patients received operations,including 84 cases of radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy.The incidence of bladder dysfunctions in radical hysterectomy was 52.4%,significantly higher than other operations(7.1%),P0.01;31.3% of the women received radical hysterectomy presented postoperative urinary infection,also signficantly higher than other operations(3.6%),P0.01.Bladder dysfunction was positively related to the duration of antibiotics usage and urethral catheter maintaining,but not with the recovery time of body temperature.Urinary infection showed positive correlation with the duration of urethral catheter maintaining,but not with antibiotics usage time or recovery time of body temperature.No correlation between bladder dysfunctions and urinary infection was observed.None of the patients suffered from postoperative urinary fistulas.Conclusions Both bladder dysfunctions and urinary infection are common postoperative complications in patients with cervical carcinomas and need to be paid attention to and to be treated timely and actively.
