Angle-splitting ostectomy for the treatment of the mild or moderate enlarged mandibular angle with masseter muscle hypertrophy

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of the angle-splitting ostectomyfor the treatment of the mild or moderate enlarged mandibular angle with masseter musle hypertrophy.Methods The result of twenty-two patients with mild or moderate enlarged mandibular angle with masseter musle hyper-trophy that underwent angle-splitting ostectomy were evaluated by using cephalometrics and facial feature analysis.Results Preoperative and postoperative cephalometrics showed that the width of lower face was efficiently reduced,mandibular angle slightly increased,approximate to normal people.Conclusion Angle-splitting ostectomy is an effctive method for the treatment of the mild or moderate enlared mandibular angle with masseter musle hypertrophy,avoiding to the second mandibular angle,producing a natural lateral facial profile.
