Relationship Betwecn Dysfunction of Gastric Motility and Dyspepsia Symptoms in Patients with Functional Dyspepesia

Abstract:Objective To study relationship between dysfunction of gastric motility and dyspepsia symptoms in patients with functional dyspepsia(FD).Methods A standardized scintigraphic examination was performed in 40 cases of FD patients and 20 healthy controls(HC).Gastric emptying and intragastric food distribution of solids were recorded.Dyspepsia symptoms were measured as absent,mild,relevant and severe.According to symptom score,we divided the patients into two subgroups,mild symptom FD(SGl) group,severe symptom FD(SG2) group.Results As compared with that in HC group,the gastric emptying half-time(T1/2) was prolonged signincantly in SG1 and SG2 group(76.8±10.9 min,85.2±19.4 min vs 50.4±11.3 min,P<0.05),but there is no difference between SG1 and SG2 group.In SG1 and HC group,the distal gastric maximal fraction(AMF) and the time of the distal stomach solid maximal fraction(Tm) did not show difference(31.4±6.3% vs 28.3±5.1%,18.0±3.9 min vs 12.0±4.8 min,P>0.05).In SG2 group,ATM increased significantly(52.6±14.7% vs 31.4±6.3%,28.3±5.1%,P<0.05),Tm prolonged significantly(50.2±13.2 min vs 18.0±3.9 min,12.0±4.8 min,P<0.05),compared with SG1 and HC group.Conclusion There was inconsistency between gastric emptying and dyspepsia symptoms,but the abnormality of intragastric food distribution may be a reason to have dyspepsia symptoms in part of patients with functional dyspepsia.
