Abstract:Objective To evaluate the safety and efficiency of microflow-plus-tip application in phacoemulsification. Methods Phacoemulsification was performed on 91 patients (105 eyes) by applying microflow-plus-tip. In this pilot study, cataract nuclear density was recorded using the lens opacities classification system (LOCS). There were 28 grade Ⅱ eyes, 67 grade Ⅲ eyes, 10 grade Ⅳ - Ⅴ eyes. Phaco-chop technique was applied to grade Ⅱ , Ⅲ eyes. Crater and chop technique was applied to grade Ⅳ , Ⅴ eyes. Results Mean phaco power and time were 11.1%, 45.3±14.4 seconds in tow grade; 17. 6% , 85. 8±57.3 seconds in three grade; 27.0% ,180.9±73. 3s in grade Ⅳ and grade Ⅴ respectively. Visual acuity with correction in the first postoperative week was 0. 8 or better in 32 eyes (30. 5% ) , 0. 3 - 0. 8 in 53 eyes (50. 5% ) , 0. 1- 0. 3 in 14 eyes (13. 3% ) , 0. 1 in 6 eyes (5. 7% ). Complications included intra-operative posterior capsular rupture, partial zonule disruption and early postoperative corneal edema. Conclusion There are several advantages in the special configuration design for the microflow-plus-tip. It increases safety and efficacy of phacoemulsification by preventing wound burns because of capacity of automatic liquid cooling, enhancing the power of holding the nucleus, improving the anterior chamber stability. It is worthy to popularize using the tip.
